Type 1 diabetes in juveniles

Common Questions and Answers about Type 1 diabetes in juveniles

Avatar n tn My 11 year old son has had Type 1 diabetes since age 5. His A1-C has always been between 6.0-7.0- until the last year. His most recent A1-C was 10.9 and I am very worried. His endocrinologist prescribed Glucophage tablets at his January 07 visit. He is a pumper (Novolog) and during the summer he chooses to get off of the pump so we give him Lantus(basal) and he uses the Novolog flexpen when he eats.
Avatar n tn Dear galosh, i know what you mean, a friend of mine has a diabetic child in the first grade and they have to send him to a special school in the city that has nurses familiar with diabetes. They had to go through a special day care as well. Part of it is because even though juvenile diabetes affects children the most it is still a rare thing. Type one diabetes can present itself up to age thirty so it isn't always young juveniles that get it.

173975 tn?1216261375 You can use sick time if its at least half a day. I got approved for 1 year of FMLA and have to have it redetermined in a year. But mine is for multiple health issues, as I am also diabetic. When I went thru treatment 13 years ago., I do not remember missing a day of work. Just for dr appointments that I had to keep. I would wait and see how you feel.. remember it effects us all differently. You may have a mild one. I wish you the best of luck and hope you reach SVR.
