Each teaspoonful (5 mL) of TUSSIONEX (hydrocodone and chlorpheniramine) Pennkinetic Extended-Release Suspension contains hydrocodone polistirex equivalent to 10 mg of hydrocodone bitartrate and chlorpheniramine polistirex equivalent to 8 mg of chlorpheniramine maleate. TUSSIONEX (hydrocodone and chlorpheniramine) Pennkinetic Extended- Release Suspension provides up to 12-hour relief per dose. Hydrocodone is a centrally-acting narcotic antitussive. Chlorpheniramine is an antihistamine.

I took Tussionex for the first time at 11:00 pm after I took a Levaquin at 10:00 pm. I have bronchitis. I awoke suddenly from my sleep at 2:00 am and had no breath - and could not speak or call my husband although I was trying to say 'help'. I got my breath back after a minute or so and was pretty shaken up by this. I'm very tired but reluctant to go back to sleep if it happens again. I was pretty shaken up. Is this an allergic reaction or a side effect?

I am hopefully going to start treatment AGAIN for tussionex withdrawal and treatment. Pray for me. Any suggestions or any other people out there like me? I am so alone.

sober 20+ years in 12 step program. Take Tussionex for chronic cough, 1 tsp. per day. I don't abuse it by taking more. But, if I don't take it every day I start to feel like I am getting the flu. Is that withdrawal, just the level in my blood is dropping off after 24 hours? Would appreciate anyone's input, especially if you have experience. Thanks and bless you all. I recently had a bad reaction to Tussionex Suspension and had to go to the ER. I agree with the doctor that I had a reaction to the Tussionex, but I'm wondering why it affected me so long after I initially took it (I didn't have any symptoms for the first 7-8 hours). Well, to start, I must say that I have just taken a dose of my meds because of the withdrawal symptoms I was having and I was not in a way able to write this otherwise. Here goes: once there was a little girl, or lady that had been diagnosed with chronic broncitis and chronic cough. I have a bottle of Tussionex since the last time i was pretty sick. It was filled may 15 2008 and Im not sure what the expiration date is on it. would it be fine to take?

Had all the allergy shots available on the planet (allergies to dust/dust mites) and today, I read about Tussionex. I control my blood pressure very well with Adalat once a day. I'll be seeing my GP on April 8. For OTC cough syrup, I use Delsym (Dextromethorphan polistirex) or Mucinex (Guaifenesin). I've never had a problem with either, and I'd consider myself fairly sensitive to cold medications. When I need the big guns, I get my PCP to prescribe Tussionex (chlorpheniramine and hydrocodone) aka. "Liquid Gold". I love this stuff. It's expensive, hence the name. But you WILL stop coughing, and you WILL sleep!

Could be the dose has become too high for you and should be adjusted. Just how long have you been on this dose level, and what is the dose level?

Well, tussionex is part hydrocodone which is a semi-synthetic opioid and part chlorpheniramine which is a type of antihistamine. So some people can be more sensitive to the hydrocodone (vicadin) part of the cough syrup. It is a fairly addictive drug and some people have genetics (an enzyme called cpy 2d6) that increases the duration the hydrocodone is elevated in their blood. This leads to exaggerated effects or feeling of euphora and other symptoms.

That is, until here in the Memphis area, Tussionex ext-released cough syrup became very popular. I was totally against using it. I called anyone that used it stupid. Then one day a friend of mine that waz using it told me that he can't ejaculate when he's gotten high off of it. That one comment changed my whole outlook. This could end my p.e. suffering? So, in 1999, at age 23, I tried it.

I was also given a three day regiment of azithromicin (zythromax) and Tussionex to control the cough. I was also given a DuoNeb. None of which seemed to work. After checking in with my primary care, i was given a flovent inhaler, to no avail. Following that, i was put on 80mg of prednisone, down to 60, then weaned off.

30 and slept soundly. I woke up wired at 6:30am. This wired effect continued all day until around 7pm (20 hours).
