286124 tn?1214938528 wow!!! now thats a word i havent heard of in years, tussionex... what do you mean "back you up?
Avatar f tn I am hopefully going to start treatment AGAIN for tussionex withdrawal and treatment. Pray for me. Any suggestions or any other people out there like me? I am so alone.
Avatar n tn sober 20+ years in 12 step program. Take Tussionex for chronic cough, 1 tsp. per day. I don't abuse it by taking more. But, if I don't take it every day I start to feel like I am getting the flu. Is that withdrawal, just the level in my blood is dropping off after 24 hours? Would appreciate anyone's input, especially if you have experience. Thanks and bless you all. One day at a time, because that's all we've got.
1003776 tn?1360197582 Hi there. I never thought in a million years I would be here, I mean at the point I am at and searching for help in this area, thats for sure. But drug addiction apparantly has no boundaries, rich or poor, young or old-it can happen to anyone. But for me, i feel especially guilty because I am a mother to 5 great children who dont deserve the bad mood and the way I am while I am trying to come off this RX addiction.
636562 tn?1223667445 I recently had a bad reaction to Tussionex Suspension and had to go to the ER. I agree with the doctor that I had a reaction to the Tussionex, but I'm wondering why it affected me so long after I initially took it (I didn't have any symptoms for the first 7-8 hours). I apologize if this is in the wrong forum, but I thought a pharmacist would be the best one to answer my question. How do extended release medications work?
Avatar m tn Each teaspoonful (5 mL) of TUSSIONEX (hydrocodone and chlorpheniramine) Pennkinetic Extended-Release Suspension contains hydrocodone polistirex equivalent to 10 mg of hydrocodone bitartrate and chlorpheniramine polistirex equivalent to 8 mg of chlorpheniramine maleate. TUSSIONEX (hydrocodone and chlorpheniramine) Pennkinetic Extended- Release Suspension provides up to 12-hour relief per dose. Hydrocodone is a centrally-acting narcotic antitussive. Chlorpheniramine is an antihistamine.
Avatar n tn I have a bottle of Tussionex since the last time i was pretty sick. It was filled may 15 2008 and Im not sure what the expiration date is on it. would it be fine to take?
Avatar n tn Had all the allergy shots available on the planet (allergies to dust/dust mites) and today, I read about Tussionex. I control my blood pressure very well with Adalat once a day. I'll be seeing my GP on April 8. I pray that Tussionex (taken only 8 hours or 12 hours prior to my show/s as opposed to taking the narcotic regularly - that's scary) would be permissible for me even when taking Adalat.
Avatar f tn I took Tussionex for the first time at 11:00 pm after I took a Levaquin at 10:00 pm. I have bronchitis. I awoke suddenly from my sleep at 2:00 am and had no breath - and could not speak or call my husband although I was trying to say 'help'. I got my breath back after a minute or so and was pretty shaken up by this. I'm very tired but reluctant to go back to sleep if it happens again. I was pretty shaken up. Is this an allergic reaction or a side effect?
Avatar f tn Last night and today, I have relapsed yet again on Tussionex. For the past two weeks, I have felt nothing but excruciating pain in my heart from so many losses. My divorce, my ex boyfriend and my recent ex boyfriend. Then, I used last night. I took a tablespoon of the tussionex and I felt numb. I felt happy. I felt like I didn't want to kill myself. So I took two teaspoons today. The pain is still nagging at the back of my head.
Avatar f tn My addiction started around 1 1/2 to 2 years ago when I had a chronic cough and was given Tussionex - wow how I loved that stuff. It totally stopped my coughing and made you feel great. I took that stuff for heck months...until I was diagnosed with arthritis in my lower back - well as luck would have it I was prescribed Vicodin with has the same crap in it as the cough medicine Tussionex had. Well long story short I have finally come to my senses and gave it all up. I can do it...
Avatar m tn i really dont have the answers to your specif questions, but i did want to let you know, you are playing a dangerous game. i hope you wake up and stop the recreational use before you find its too late. it will sneak up on you and usually by the time you figure out you have a problem it is a full blown addiction and completely in control of you. good luck and keep reading the post here to get an idea of how the oxys will take over your life.
Avatar n tn For OTC cough syrup, I use Delsym (Dextromethorphan polistirex) or Mucinex (Guaifenesin). I've never had a problem with either, and I'd consider myself fairly sensitive to cold medications. When I need the big guns, I get my PCP to prescribe Tussionex (chlorpheniramine and hydrocodone) aka. "Liquid Gold". I love this stuff. It's expensive, hence the name. But you WILL stop coughing, and you WILL sleep!
Avatar n tn im am addicted to this and hycodan at the same timw for about 3 years i take about a 1 1/2 to 2 ounces of tussionex a day i have drank 3 and 4 ounces in a day many times with ease thought and put any where from 2 tsp to a whole ounce in sprit and i never dont have a cup i also take klodipin i take 2 to 4 mgs a day and take at least 100mg of lortab about ten 10mgs a day but sometimes it does reach up to 20 tens a day plus the cough syrups how bad is my withdrawl for the codiene going to be i
3837157 tn?1348286069 You can call one of your local pharmacies for peace of mind, but there are no contraindications.
Avatar m tn Well, tussionex is part hydrocodone which is a semi-synthetic opioid and part chlorpheniramine which is a type of antihistamine. So some people can be more sensitive to the hydrocodone (vicadin) part of the cough syrup. It is a fairly addictive drug and some people have genetics (an enzyme called cpy 2d6) that increases the duration the hydrocodone is elevated in their blood. This leads to exaggerated effects or feeling of euphora and other symptoms.
Avatar n tn I was also given a three day regiment of azithromicin (zythromax) and Tussionex to control the cough. I was also given a DuoNeb. None of which seemed to work. After checking in with my primary care, i was given a flovent inhaler, to no avail. Following that, i was put on 80mg of prednisone, down to 60, then weaned off.
Avatar n tn same goes for cigs, alcohol, etc i just want to know what the small dosage i take can do or what dosage i can personally take and be safe .. any way to find this out?
Avatar f tn I know that some allergy meds can by used as an anti-anxiety, but was not aware that it was recreational.....But, you should not take more than the recommended dosage of any medication, whether it will get you high or not....it does a lot of damage to the stomach the liver the pancreas the heart.....and the kidneys.....It sounds to me like you could be having pains in your abdomen? That could be the GI tract, misusing some meds can lead to stomach ulcer and bleeding....
Avatar n tn re on any meds would be a great help, which ones, for how long and what dosage. If you are doing any "recreational drugs." (And there is NO JUDGING going on here!) A bit more about your relationship, why you are so far away from him, how long has that been, what is he doing that makes you feel he is ignoring you. Not answering your phone calls, emails or letters? Tell us how you feel before you go to bed and how and when do you feel these symptoms subside.
Avatar m tn Who can say? Sometimes drugs don't work anymore for us. While this drug isn't as known for it, some drugs such as Paxil are well known for not working again after stopping. As you age, they can also have side effects that are different, because you're different. But here's a theory, though I have no idea if it's applicable to you or not. You don't say what you were "self-medicating" with but I'm assuming you mean you took some kind of recreational drug.
Avatar n tn I apologise if the subject matter offends you (i dont use recreational drugs often, only at partys etc), but could you please answer a few questions for me. Why does alcohol and canabis make my left eye turn out even further? Why does cocaine make the left eye come into alignment? What are the implications of these observations when using recreational drugs? As cocaine brings the eyes into alignment does that mean that surgery is not the only option to bring the eyes into alignment?
Avatar f tn To give some background, I had taken a recreational drug in a large dosage the night before, and have been drinking quite a bit of alcohol for the past few months. I went through the day reasonably fine when I was sitting at home and felt a little off. All of the sudden my left arm had a sensation of pins and needles which quickly spread to the other side. Pretty soon my body felt numb. I could move but it was almost like I could only move my arms straight out and it was hard to even feel them.
Avatar f tn An additional concern I have is that I have put myself at risk because of recreational use of Vicodin, which has gone on for about 2 yrs. While I have never taken more than a small dosage on a given day (never more than 500mg in a day and most often about 250mg), my usage has been fairly consistent usually about twice a week. Would a tinnitus resulting from Vicodin use be more likely to result in strictly tinnitus, without the hearing loss? Thanks everyone. I really appreciate any input.
