I recently had a bad reaction to Tussionex Suspension and had to go to the ER. I agree with the doctor that I had a reaction to the Tussionex, but I'm wondering why it affected me so long after I initially took it (I didn't have any symptoms for the first 7-8 hours). I apologize if this is in the wrong forum, but I thought a pharmacist would be the best one to answer my question. How do extended release medications work?

Tussionex stops coughing well, but it carries a risk of potential side effects, including drowsiness, constipation, lightheadedness, and vomiting. The hydrocodone component is also an addictive medication and should be used with caution.

I am hopefully going to start treatment AGAIN for tussionex withdrawal and treatment. Pray for me. Any suggestions or any other people out there like me? I am so alone.

sober 20+ years in 12 step program. Take Tussionex for chronic cough, 1 tsp. per day. I don't abuse it by taking more. But, if I don't take it every day I start to feel like I am getting the flu. Is that withdrawal, just the level in my blood is dropping off after 24 hours? Would appreciate anyone's input, especially if you have experience. Thanks and bless you all. Tussionex should not cause this type of a reaction. It is possible that the Lavaquin did if you felt any kind of swelling of the throat. You can call the prescribing doctor and/or the pharmacist to ask about symptoms of an allergic reaction. I would be more likely to think that it was acid reflux from the Levaquin. Many antibioitics cause reflux. Levaquin is a strong one and is known to cause problems.

Well, tussionex is part hydrocodone which is a semi-synthetic opioid and part chlorpheniramine which is a type of antihistamine. So some people can be more sensitive to the hydrocodone (vicadin) part of the cough syrup. It is a fairly addictive drug and some people have genetics (an enzyme called cpy 2d6) that increases the duration the hydrocodone is elevated in their blood. This leads to exaggerated effects or feeling of euphora and other symptoms.

Each teaspoonful (5 mL) of TUSSIONEX (hydrocodone and chlorpheniramine) Pennkinetic Extended-Release Suspension contains hydrocodone polistirex equivalent to 10 mg of hydrocodone bitartrate and chlorpheniramine polistirex equivalent to 8 mg of chlorpheniramine maleate. TUSSIONEX (hydrocodone and chlorpheniramine) Pennkinetic Extended- Release Suspension provides up to 12-hour relief per dose. Hydrocodone is a centrally-acting narcotic antitussive. Chlorpheniramine is an antihistamine.

I have a bottle of Tussionex since the last time i was pretty sick. It was filled may 15 2008 and Im not sure what the expiration date is on it. would it be fine to take?

Had all the allergy shots available on the planet (allergies to dust/dust mites) and today, I read about Tussionex. I control my blood pressure very well with Adalat once a day. I'll be seeing my GP on April 8. I pray that Tussionex (taken only 8 hours or 12 hours prior to my show/s as opposed to taking the narcotic regularly - that's scary) would be permissible for me even when taking Adalat.

Last night and today, I have relapsed yet again on Tussionex. For the past two weeks, I have felt nothing but excruciating pain in my heart from so many losses. My divorce, my ex boyfriend and my recent ex boyfriend. Then, I used last night. I took a tablespoon of the tussionex and I felt numb. I felt happy. I felt like I didn't want to kill myself. So I took two teaspoons today. The pain is still nagging at the back of my head.

Hi there. I never thought in a million years I would be here, I mean at the point I am at and searching for help in this area, thats for sure. But drug addiction apparantly has no boundaries, rich or poor, young or old-it can happen to anyone. But for me, i feel especially guilty because I am a mother to 5 great children who dont deserve the bad mood and the way I am while I am trying to come off this RX addiction.

My addiction started around 1 1/2 to 2 years ago when I had a chronic cough and was given Tussionex - wow how I loved that stuff. It totally stopped my coughing and made you feel great. I took that stuff for heck months...until I was diagnosed with arthritis in my lower back - well as luck would have it I was prescribed Vicodin with has the same crap in it as the cough medicine Tussionex had. For OTC cough syrup, I use Delsym (Dextromethorphan polistirex) or Mucinex (Guaifenesin). I've never had a problem with either, and I'd consider myself fairly sensitive to cold medications. When I need the big guns, I get my PCP to prescribe Tussionex (chlorpheniramine and hydrocodone) aka. "Liquid Gold". I love this stuff. It's expensive, hence the name. But you WILL stop coughing, and you WILL sleep!

im am addicted to this and hycodan at the same timw for about 3 years i take about a 1 1/2 to 2 ounces of tussionex a day i have drank 3 and 4 ounces in a day many times with ease thought and put any where from 2 tsp to a whole ounce in sprit and i never dont have a cup i also take klodipin i take 2 to 4 mgs a day and take at least 100mg of lortab about ten 10mgs a day but sometimes it does reach up to 20 tens a day plus the cough syrups how bad is my withdrawl for the codiene going to be i

Many AD's have side effects that affect the libido, guess it applies to both sex es. As far as I know all AD's have this drastic effect . Hopefully you'll find one that's OK for you . Good luck.

Yes, I've only been on it a week and I experience the muscle aches and bilateral flank pain as well. In addition, insomnia!

Does anyone know of any side effects from using the circulation booster. I have the opportunity to buy a second hand one, but my brother believes it can't be good for your muscles to zap them so to speak, like it will confuse your muscles.

Hi. I am on week 60/72, second round of treatment. I was really really sick after shot for first few months and then this resolved and became tolerable at least. I now find that I am having these same significant side effects later in tx. This didn't happen last round, but I went 48 then. Anyone else have this happen?

i had similar side effects when coming off the depo shot. I thought i was pregnant and took 3 tests. they went away but it took about 6mo. My docs checked my hormones and pituitary gland and they we all fine. It's probably not the effexor but ck w/ your doc anyway.

I just googled Avastin side effects are there are many sites that have lots of info on there. Also, you could google the manufacturer or ask your oncology center for some fact sheets.... Just a thought.

Cancer removed May 22, 2007, chemo July 2nd through October 8, 2007, and radiation on left breast November 2nd through December 26, 2008. Side effect from Taxol perminent numb toes, side effects so far from Tamoxifen body temperature changes of warmth then cold. The web page sites and telephone numbers did not have this information.

I have been prescribed Acebutolol for PVC's and I am literally exhausted since beginning this medication but I didn't see that as one of the side effects. Also, my vision is blurred. Is this normal?
