An international study found the antiviral combination of tenofovir and emtricitabine (Truvada) was most effective in treating younger adult hepatitis B patients with high viral load and normal ALT levels.
Doctors historically have not treated this group because there appeared to be no sign of liver damage. However, doctors now know that high viral loads may increase patients’ risk of liver damage and cancer as they age, despite their normal ALT levels.
So I had a discussion with my doctor yesterday regarding the recent elevation in my AST, ALT ( about 1.5 x ULN). I am LAM resistance, on Truvada for almost 2 years now. Everything else (HBV DNA undetectable, ultrasound ok, CBC, fibroscan + all other stuff i have no idea) came back normal. AST + ALT was in normal range all the time but 3 months recently have been up a bit.
She advised me to continue monitoring my condition and warn me about possible resistance.
I read somewhere that there are reports out there that Truvada along can clear hbsag at around 10% per year. Which is if true makes it the best antiviral option for us from what is available.
Lets share ideas on this.
The way I see it it is a powerful combo for hbv. 200mg of tdf and 200 emtricitabine.
has anyone been prescribed Truvada? If so I would like to know how you are doing with it? and if it is helping your hepatitis b? I have stage 4 kidney disease. My hepitologist just prescribed this med. My labs were not good. He hopes to get the virus under control so I can possibly get a kidney transplant. This would be a kidney from a cadaver donator, someone who had hepatitis b. So I am about to begin my journey.
Do you recommend the truvada over the viread or baraclude? If while being switched from Hepsera to truvada is there a risk that the Hep B could become active? Also , the Hepatitis B DNA is currently undetectable and the Hep B Surface AG is currently negative (both prior to transplant as well as post transplant, so far ) what are the chances that the Hep B could become active again once the Hbig infusions are stopped? I rinsed my penis and swabbed with alcohol after. I also commenced Truvada that evening ( approx 4 hrs post exposure) . Is this adequate . I have now been on it for a week . I was considering commencing kaletra as well . Is my risk high ? would you recommend anything else?

Yesterday, I took 1 Truvada at 7am but since I was in a hurry after dinner, I accidentally took one more Truvada last night. I tried to vomit it up but I was able to vomit only a part (dissolved part) of it. Because of panic, I forgot to take Kaletra last night. I rushed to the A&E and asked the doctor's advice on what to do. Since I waited for more than 3 hours before I was able to see the doctor, I was already drowsy when the doctor talked to me.
I agree with your comments about condoms preventing other infections. I do use condoms. Truvada seemed like a good option for maximizing protection against Hiv. Yes, There are additional risks to being on Truvada that's why regular follow up is mandatory or the prescription will not be refilled.
In my situation had it not been for seeking Truvada I would not have discovered my hep b infection due to all the test that are required prior to a prescription being written.
Since the chances a quite low Can I stop taking pep or can I stop kaletra and remain with truvada take it upto 28days.coz kaletra gives me diarrhea.
How can I change from taking Truvada in the noon to taking Truvada at midnight? For instance, should I do two doses of Truvada in one 24 hour period or should I do no doses in one 24 hour period to get it right?
3. When the doctors prescribed the medication I ended up taking 4x the recommended dose of Aluvia. This was due to me having received four cans of Aluvia,not realizing that each can was meant to last 1 week.

I didn t see this post about your immune tollerant stage, truvada was the correct choice with such high viral load

Hi everyone, am a hiv negative man and I have been on prep 1 dose truvada daily for 1 month and half ..yesterday I had sex with a woman whose taking pep due to condom failure with her positive boyfriend and she's on pep for 5days 1 truvada ones and 2 kaletra twice a daily. .
My question is I had unprotected sex with her on her 5 day on pep and the following day I had unprotected sex with my wife .. what are the chances of me to pass hiv hiv to my wife .?please help.
Brief Intro: have been on Truvada for more than 3 years now, switching from LAM (lam resistance, I took lam for 3 years). HBeAg +, AntiHBe - , 25 years old, genotype B.
Ultrasound, fibroscan (around 5.0 kPa) & blood test (AST, ALT, Creatinin,... HBV DNA undetectable) every 6 months comes back normal (been doing this for 5 years now).
I'm thinking about taking Tenofovir only because I will move to a place where Emtricitabine is not available. I know it is better to combo.
