Do you recommend the truvada over the viread or baraclude? If while being switched from Hepsera to truvada is there a risk that the Hep B could become active? Also , the Hepatitis B DNA is currently undetectable and the Hep B Surface AG is currently negative (both prior to transplant as well as post transplant, so far ) what are the chances that the Hep B could become active again once the Hbig infusions are stopped? Since Truvada is also meant for HIV patitents as well. Why not just use Viread ? My Dr. answered me Truvada is more safer to use at this pregnancy stage. Though i found online both Truvada and Viread have been categorized B level for pregnant women.
2) What confuses me further, Truvada is not even approved by FDA for HIB treatment?

My doctor suggests that I participate in the drug trial of Tenefovir (Viread) versus Tenofovir in combination with Emtricitibine (Truvada). I have chronic Hepatitis B and Lamivudine resistance last year. He gave me a document to read and I did a bit of research on internet on the side effect. My concern is the side effect especially on Kidney. Could you give me some advice if I should participate in the drug trial or stay with my current medicine Hepsera.

That is a good point. I am just telling you what I was told by the people that take it. That it is much easier to tolerate the medication taken in one pill rather then taking multiple pills of these individual compounds during the day.
I had very bad side effects like dizziness , nausea, vomiting and also stomach problems. Sometime, I couldn't wake up. I am so weak. By the way, I have Viread( Tenofovir ) 123 mg expired date 1.201,anyone who wants it I will post it. I didn't use it anymore so I can post it free. I also have Tenofovir 245 mg but it is expired 8.2013 so may be it is not good anymore. I used it both of the only 3 tabts each and I stopped.
I recently visited the dr after my hbsab seroconverted, my hbv dna undetected, hbsag non reactive and hbsab reactive for more than a year, and stopped the viread medication for 6 months, and blood test result stays the same, i was under clinical trial, now the dr sent me home, no more hbv follow up appointments.
I'm taking Truvada now for almost 2 years (Undetectable HBV DNA, e antigen still positive, lam resistance).
Can I switch to Baraclude? It will be easier for my budget since it cost way less coz' I'm planning on moving back home. I'm in the US.
Any possible resistance or virus breakthrough if I decided to switch therapy?

when I experienced high alt, over 200 at one time, while taking truvada my dr was also very concerned if any damage to liver, then switched me back to viread, and alt was still consistently 80 to over hundred. (I was taking lamivudine, hepsera initially around 2004 and was told the hbv mutated only in a few months, then switched to viread, and the virus was quickly under control in a few months, the dr.
i am not sure which, ETV or viread is better for you, but looking at the physical size, viread and truvada is 300mg, much bigger pill, but low or no resistant, and everytime i switched prescription, the dr. always want a blood report in 2 months make sure no mutation, and kidney and other organs are still functioning normally. i am the very lucky, rare less than 5% per year that went through hbsag seroconvesion by medication.
When I found out I went to the hospital and they gave me a HIV test and it came up negative. They started me on PEP medicine (this is about 4 hours after exposure). I was given Viread 300mg 1 tablet a day and Combivir 300 mg 1 tablet twice a day. I took this till Wednesday afternoon to where I went to the HIV Clinic at the hospital.
The doctor changed my medicine to Truvada 200MG-300MG once daily and Kaletra 200MG-50MG 2 tablets twice a day. I started this medicine on Wednesday night.

tenvir tm is generic version of tenofovir+emtricitabine (truvada) which even more potent than tenofovir alone
entecavir is less potent of both tdf or truvada, i am also on entecavir which is about 1000usd per month changing currency from euro, i have it free in my country but it is absurd to allow such costs for a stupid tablet

there is a case report about clearing hbv+hdv in 11months by interferon+truvada, it was hbeag postive at start of treatment
my suggestion:
interferon+tenofovir is already the standard for hbv+hdv and we know now that interferon clears hbv when hbsag less than 1500iu/ml and hbvdna very low or undetactable, so check your hbsag with abbott architect, the unit must be iu/ml otherwise it is not architect and it is not quantitative
