I received oral sex and I noticed when the person spit afterwards there was blood in their spit. If they are HIV positive aren't I at risk? I was on Truvada for prep for 12 days but I read it takes 7 days to be effective against receptive anal but 20 days for insertive anal, insertive vaginal, and against needles. I can't find any info on how long prep takes to be effective against receptive oral. How long does it take for prep to be effective against receptive oral?
We had sex with a condom, but at one point we did not because the condom slipped off/malfunctioned (not sure). But he told me not to worry because he takes Truvada as Prep for pre-cautionary measures in order not to get HIV. He also believes to be HIV – last time he got checked. He also said he’s been on the Truvda Prep for 2 months and takes it daily. Anyway, I’m still concerned and would like to know:
1. How effective is the Truvada Prep that he is currently taking in preventing getting HIV?
Hi everyone, am a hiv negative man and I have been on prep 1 dose truvada daily for 1 month and half ..yesterday I had sex with a woman whose taking pep due to condom failure with her positive boyfriend and she's on pep for 5days 1 truvada ones and 2 kaletra twice a daily. .
My question is I had unprotected sex with her on her 5 day on pep and the following day I had unprotected sex with my wife .. what are the chances of me to pass hiv hiv to my wife .?please help.
Thank you all for this amazing forum. I had a lapse in judgement and went to a bath house in Spain about 10 days ago. I am a homosexual male with recent known HIV negativity. After a few drinks, I wandered down to the darker area and had a few interactions (no anal sex, just fondling/kissing) with some of the clientele. At the end of the night, I met a man with whom I had insertive anal sex (I was the "top"). He placed a condom on me and took it off at the end.

I am a gay male and have taken Truvada as PrEP daily since last November.
This past week, I ran out of my Truvada after taking it on Tuesday morning. Prior to that, I had taken it daily for more than a month. I did not take Truvada on Wednesday or Thursday. I changed insurances and wanted to wait to pick up my refill until I got my copay and assistance straightened out.
On Friday I had anal sex as the bottom with a man I know who says he is negative.

Are my chances of acquiring HIV still doubled (I think the reason is the cells HIV loves to infect are closer to the surface of the skin due to HSV), or are they same as if I weren't immunocompromised? Would taking antivirals in tandem do anything?
I was diagnosed with chronic HBV back in Dec 2014. I was given Truvada (Prep) for treatment. I have taken it daily for 4.5 years and my viral load down has remained dormant and the HBV undetectable. Recently, I moved to a new city and my new job does not offer insurance. I cannot afford the medication without insurance as it is very expensive. Is there a chance my body could have rid itself of HBV during these 4.5 years?
Can someone tell me if taking Truvada for PreP, can effect the accuracy of the at-home OraQuick test? I have Googled it and can't really find anything about the drug vs the test accuracy. I asked my PCP, who started me on PreP (at my request) and she said the test was fine to use.

I usually never have condomless sex, but the guy who had sex with said he was on PReP and even showed me his weekly pill case with the Truvada medication in it and confirmed that he was last tested for HIV and stds in September and is negative. He did not ejaculate inside me. I recently tested for hiv and stds on November 18, 2019 with my primary doctor and tested negative.

After approximately six months of using this drug to prevent HIV, I noticed my face was changing. My cheeks were sinking in. A type of facial atrophy. I'll start 1st by saying I'm a gay male who sought out Truvada as PrEp as a way to further eliminating my risk of HIV. Late October 2015 I sought out an infectious disease Dr who was knowledgeable of Truvada as Prep. Prior to him giving a prescription I was required to have a full blood panel along with a HIV test also screened for Hepatitis. This is when I discovered I was Infected with Chronic HBV. I had elevated alt & ast as well as a viral load in the millions.
Im on pep or prep I don't really know that difference i'm taking Truvada and Isentress for the last 17 days and today I got another possible exposure in the form of a needle stick injury, ive been so stressed I have not be able to work correctly and now have a panicing fear of hiv thinking I will step on needles or be stuck by some crazy person walking in the street.
I’ve been given a prep regime for 28 days consisting of truvada and isentress. I have 17 days left I have been having pain that started in my ankle and is now in my legs and my back feels very uncomfortable feels like my kidneys are dry they feel irritated at least in the lower back where they are located my muscles are weak and ackey feels like ive been waling for many many miles but I have been home sitting around for a few days.
Since you have a confirmed unprotected sexual contact with a person that's HIV Positive I would suggest a HIV Test at 3 Months! Even though he's Undetectable there is still a Risk. Never go by Symptoms if your having Symptoms it's most likely something else the only way to know your Status is through HIV testing at 3 months.

Basically, enjoy the experience and if you plan to do these things in the future, look into PREP (Pre Exposure Prophylaxis) Truvada is tested to be 98% successful at preventing HIV from HIV positive partners. Generics are easy to come by if you live outside the US.
