Avatar f tn I used a butterfly needle size 23 x 3/4 needle gauge. Upon withdrawing needle from a vein in his arm, I somehow slipped and the needle came out of his arm and stuck me in the right hand. It happened so fast that I honestly dont remember if i felt the stick or not. Afterwards I went into the bathroom and removed my gloves. I then filled up the left glove with water to see if it had any holes. None. I did the same with the right glove and there was a tiny pin hole that water came out of.

Avatar m tn If you have not been (and given your profession, you should be) your hepatitis B risk can be virtually eliminated with the hepatitis B vaccine. Even after a needle stick, immediate vaccination will help to reduce risk. 3. There is no preventative measure recommended for hepatitis C prevention. 4. If he has HIV, I would suggest that this is an exposure which warrants contacting your physician or health department and requesting PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis).
Avatar f tn m a surgical technology student. This Monday I was working with either a SH suture needle or an FSH needle, and before I know it, I feel a quick sting. It was on my left index finger. I believe I checked my glove. I don't believe there was a hole and there was no blood. Afterwards, I checked my hand and there were no puncture marks at all. The patient was a cancer patient, so chances are HIV would have been in the paperwork. I just don't know if I should be worried.
Avatar m tn When a needle stick is a concern is in a healthcare setting when the hollow bore needle goes deep into tissue. A superficial stick for a basic needle is not going to be a risk. Any blood on the needle was mixed with ink which would have made the virus inactive.
Avatar m tn A needle stick with a hollow bore needle from a known HCV infected patient carries only a 1.8% chance of transmission, however there is still a slight risk, if your worried wait the proper amount of time and get tested. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What is the risk for HCV infection from a needlestick exposure to HCV-contaminated blood?
Avatar m tn Ill try to make it short , My gf works in a hospital and got a needle stick injury to her finger. The pt was hiv pos and she was put on pep for a month. The dr said he has never seen a case of someone getting a positive result after this kind of injury. My question is what kind of risk is this really? If a no risk why pep? and should we be careful in the bedroom? as in condoms until she tests negative?
Avatar n tn I've posted on the HIV site but I'll ask it here. Back in July 2011 I had a non-ocupational needle stick while going through my son's vehicle. My son is a herion user who has shared needles. I've tested HIV neg at 2,4 and 6 months. I'm worried about co-infection and how that can delay seroconversion. I had a Hep panel done at 4.5 months which was negative, as well. Can I trust a 4.5 month hep panel? My son's HIV/HCV status is not known at this time.
Avatar f tn org/posts/HIV-Prevention/What-constitutes-an-open-wound/show/1982133#post_9325572 Lizzie asks a great question, why has the story changed? You never mentioned a needle stick before, only you were worried about getting blood on your hands and into your torn cuticles. The timing from the last question til now clearly indicates you're talking about the same event. Did you think if you made the story more severe you would get a different answer?
Avatar f tn If you suffer a needle stick from a known drug user (no AIDS Thank the Lord) does that mean you have a geno type 1 or 2 or what? I have been in denial for 3 decades, had 2 children what should they be tested for?
Avatar f tn Hello, Today I was at work and got stuck with a Needle that was contaminated. The Patient had Hep A and Cancer Diagnosed in 2009. I let it bleed out and washed my hands also used a betadine soultion swabstick. I didn't report it because the Dr. I work for doesn't have a policy in place or a protocol for needle stick. Please help...I don't know what to do. Any advice is helpful can I get Hep A? Can I get cancer?
Avatar m tn If you need it for peace of mind...then go get an antibody test at 12 weeks post the needle stick. As long as you have had no other risk factors...this will prove to yourself that you weren't infected.
Avatar m tn Hi, I believe that a few weeks ago I had been stabbed or at least punctured with a needle in my back and am looking for info about what the chances would be of getting HIV from being stabbed with an HIV+ needle. I know the chances of getting HIV from a needle like a pin needle are low, I am talking about a needle an IV drug user would use.
Avatar f tn and you wouldnt know if your "friend" was hiv positive?
Avatar n tn Hello all, 13 weeks ago i had a needle stick with a confirmed HIV+ person. This occured while i was on job, as an ER worker, not from the US. I had ARS like symptoms at 2 weeks such as fever, sore throat, fatigue. Tested negative at 8 weeks. Had post nasal drip and chronic sinus infection for 5 weeks now. Tested 83 days post exposure, was negative. Are post nasal drip and chronic sinus infection (chronic meaning lasted for more than a month and antibiotics dont help) signs of ARS?
