Hi, if a hiv negative person is taking truvada and contracts corona virus, will they be able to fight off the corona virus? Or will taking truvada negatively affect their ability to fight off the corona virus? Is their immune system compromised while taking truvada? Or can they take truvada without any fears of being able to fight off corona virus.

PEP should be a combination of three different HIV medications. Truvada is a combination of two and as such truvada alone is insufficient. I would test using an HIV DUO test along with an RNA PCR at 2 weeks after completing the truvada. If these tests are negative then it is likely that you are HIV negative but you should test again at a further four weeks and finally at 3 months after completing PEP.

Yes it is only approved for hiv, just like Truvada was never approved for hbv. But off label use is always possible and Truvada was also used frequently by hepatologists for difficult cases.

As best we know, it is impossible to have symptoms due to HIV with negative tests for both HIV antibody and for the virus, either by PCR or by p24 antigen. In other words, to the best of my knowledge, your negative Duo test proves you are not infected with HIV, even in the face of PEP.
