Truvada emtricitabine

Common Questions and Answers about Truvada emtricitabine

truvada

Avatar m tn An international study found the antiviral combination of tenofovir and emtricitabine (Truvada) was most effective in treating younger adult hepatitis B patients with high viral load and normal ALT levels. Doctors historically have not treated this group because there appeared to be no sign of liver damage. However, doctors now know that high viral loads may increase patients’ risk of liver damage and cancer as they age, despite their normal ALT levels.
Avatar m tn This is a potential concern because the drugs in Truvada – tenofovir and emtricitabine – are active against HBV as well as HIV. HIV and HBV are spread through some common transmission routes, including sexual transmission, vertical transmission (mother to child) and via multi-person use of injection equipment.
Avatar f tn The most common treatment in the US, Canada and the UK is Truvada. This is what is known as a "fixed-dose combination tablet" combining emtricitabine and tenofovir from the NRTI class, and raltegravir, from the integrase inhibitor class. There ARE alternative drugs available and possibly in Thailand they use lamivudine in place of raltegravir. I am definitely NOT a chemist, so I can't tell you for sure if the combination you're taking is appropriate.
Avatar f tn I then went to my family doctor and she was going to prescribe truvada plus tiviacy but she changed her mind and said the tiviacy is too toxic. So she put my on truvada alone will this even reduce my risk? I cant find anything online if it is effective or not.
Avatar f tn You are correct that Truvada is a combination of tenofovir and emtricitabine, and is generally prescribed for patients with HIV. Being a HBV forum, most of us know very little about Truvada except that it is prescribed off-label for HBV by some doctors, and that it is recommended for HBV patients who develop resistance to Tenofovir.
Avatar m tn truvada is just tenofovir+ftc, it is sueless on hbv unless non response to tenofovir, which is extremely rare it adds toxicity and higher price because truvada patent is not expiring in 2014, no difference on hbsag. instead of truvada it is best only for those non responding to combo tenofovir+lamivudine.
Avatar m tn Brief Intro: have been on Truvada for more than 3 years now, switching from LAM (lam resistance, I took lam for 3 years). HBeAg +, AntiHBe - , 25 years old, genotype B. Ultrasound, fibroscan (around 5.0 kPa) & blood test (AST, ALT, Creatinin,... HBV DNA undetectable) every 6 months comes back normal (been doing this for 5 years now). I'm thinking about taking Tenofovir only because I will move to a place where Emtricitabine is not available. I know it is better to combo.
Avatar m tn Is it Truvada alone is effective? I am taking only Turvada (Tenofovir 300mg / Emtricitabine 200mg) tabs for 28 days. Please advise.
Avatar m tn tenvir is generic version of tenofovir tenvir tm is generic version of tenofovir+emtricitabine (truvada) which even more potent than tenofovir alone entecavir is less potent of both tdf or truvada, i am also on entecavir which is about 1000usd per month changing currency from euro, i have it free in my country but it is absurd to allow such costs for a stupid tablet http://www.aids-drugs-online.com/productindex.
Avatar m tn Tenofovir (Viread, also in the Truvada, Atripla, Complera, and Stribild coformulations) is among the most widely used antiretroviral drugs, as it is highly effective and generally regarded as safe and well-tolerated. However, it can cause kidney toxicity in susceptible individuals and is associated with bone loss that begins soon after starting treatment.
Avatar m tn Truvada 200 mg (emtricitabine-tenofovir) plus Tivicay 50 mg (dolutegravir) for 28 days to reduce likelihood of HIV illnesses. These meds have potentially serious side-effects. Perhaps taking the meds is more dangerous than doing nothing in the following circumstance? I'm a fairly healthy circumcised male in my 60s. I had unprotected vaginal sex with a busy commercial sex worker for one hour on two occasions. Assuming she has an HIV infection - it seems my chance of infection is about 0.
Avatar m tn So I went to the doctor today and I got prescribed Truvada today for 28 days. He said it was a low to moderate risk, but I thought it would give me more piece of mind. My insurance seems to cover it - I had to pay a copay, but it wasn't too bad. I have read that PEP is normally a combination of drugs, so hoping that this one drug is ok.
Avatar m tn I’ve been given a prep regime for 28 days consisting of truvada and isentress. I have 17 days left I have been having pain that started in my ankle and is now in my legs and my back feels very uncomfortable feels like my kidneys are dry they feel irritated at least in the lower back where they are located my muscles are weak and ackey feels like ive been waling for many many miles but I have been home sitting around for a few days.
Avatar f tn I was also a reciever. After 40 hours I went to the first clinic and they gave me PEP (TenofovirDF, emtricitabine + lamivudine). The clinic looks very unprofessional, but it was my only chance. I didn't do any hiv or std test, a month before the exposure i had HIV test which was negative. After few days I had a mild sore throat, i still have it, i don't have fever, running nose, rash or anything else. My questions are..
Avatar m tn and im sure theres lots of people taking truvada who would want to know. and i wasnt asking if truvada helps with corona virus. i was asking if it inhibits your ability to fight it off.
181575 tn?1250198786 Atripla is a drug used to treat HIV. It actually consists of 3 drugs, emtricitabine and tenofovir (which also works against HBV) and efavirenz (doesn't work against HBV). Combination treatment is common practice for HIV so they combine multiple drugs into 1 pill. Of course Atripla is NOT an FDA approved therapy for HBV. Sometime in the future when the standard practice is combo treatment for HBV, they will combine entecavir and tenofovir into 1 pill and call it XcalibR 300.
Avatar m tn What are my chances of getting infected. Another question was administered a PEP drug emtricitabine and tenofovir, can it prevent me from contracting HiV.
Avatar f tn I d keep truvada until hbvdna undetectable and then switch to viread
Avatar m tn I also did a liver biopsy, and that came up with a stage 2 (I think I was told there were some visible scar on my liver) Started treatment with Truvada 2 years ago, got undetectable HBV DNA within 5 months. Also, my abdominal ultrasound came normal. AST, ALT, AFP, CBC in range. My recent labs came up as follow: These labs were done outside of the U.S. July 2nd, 2010 Creatinin 1.19 (0.6 - 1.4 mg/100mL) GGT 25.0 (3 - 35 U/L) AST 35.5 (6 - 25 U/L) ******** ALT 30.9 (3 - 30 U/L) ******** AFP 3.
Avatar m tn Yesterday, I took 1 Truvada at 7am but since I was in a hurry after dinner, I accidentally took one more Truvada last night. I tried to vomit it up but I was able to vomit only a part (dissolved part) of it. Because of panic, I forgot to take Kaletra last night. I rushed to the A&E and asked the doctor's advice on what to do. Since I waited for more than 3 hours before I was able to see the doctor, I was already drowsy when the doctor talked to me.
