Common Questions and Answers about Trigeminal neuralgia with ms

trigeminal-neuralgia

Avatar m tn Thankfully the Trigeminal neuralgia only lasts a few seconds at most. But I do have an appointment with a new neuro in August. I know it could definitely be other things, I just wanted to hear that I'm not the only person that feels things everyday that no one can see.
Avatar f tn Trigeminal neuralgia is nearly always unilateral. In rare cases of bilateral trigeminal neuralgia, individual attacks are usually unilateral, with distinct episodes involving each side of the face at separate times. A change in the location, severity, or quality of the pain should be an alert to the possibility of an alternative diagnosis. Symptomatic trigeminal neuralgia is usually caused by multiple sclerosis or by tumours arising near the trigeminal nerve root.

567677 tn?1246767776 I had a car accident on 6-2-08 and was ejected from my vehicle. So on top of the trigeminal neuralgia I have broadbased bulge to c4-c5 and bulge with annular tear to L4-L5 and bulging L6-S1. I wonder if the c-spine could contribute to some of the pain in the facial nerve Anyone know?
Avatar f tn I have what is called Paratrigeminal Neuralgia and it is related to Trigeminal Neuralgia which this could be related to. I am also thinking that it could be a paresthesia which is caused by nerves in your face. I think this is something worth mentioning to your neuro next time you see one.
Avatar f tn org/posts/Multiple-Sclerosis/Attack-of-trigeminal-neuralgia--OMG/show/2646953#post_12856616) I moaned about it, but I have to say it was excruciating. Fine now, at least from that standpoint. The standard treatment is Tegretol (carbamazepine). It turns out I can't tolerate that, as a reasonably effective dose wiped out my balance and had me staggering all over the place. It also almost destroyed my platelet count, which was down to 23.
Avatar f tn Hi all, small question for you, i had no symptoms for 5 months, which was wonderful, and then i got this urinary infection , and the next thing i knew i had severe face pain, particularly in my nose, where it feels lie i have been bashed in the face with a pan, i have buzzing in my ears, and just a general tightness in my neck and shoulders, i got my eyebrows tattooed also, could this have caused trigeminal neuralgia ? or would it have been the infection, ?
738075 tn?1330575844 I woke up with Trigeminal Neuralgia last Thursday morning. I knew that was what it was, because I had it once seven years ago. This time it's SO much worse! I told myself I'd "tough it out" for the weekend, even though I did put in a call to my neurologist. By Sunday, it was so bad, I was in tears! I told my DH "just take me out back and shoot me like an old horse!" I was kidding, but kinda serious, too!
2116593 tn?1334749913 My question is is tmj more severe to a person with ms as to a person without? The pain from the ms is pretty bad, however, can be managed. Where as the pain in regards to the tmj is unbarable! It literally takes my breath away. Someone please help me find an answer to this... Thankfully yours,Ms.
Avatar n tn I forgot to mention that Trigeminal Neuralgia is 300 times more common in MS than it is in the general population. So, yes, it would be related to the MS.
2047903 tn?1330187549 Hi, Now that you have tested negative for these MS mimics, do you think your neuro may turn his head back towards MS and reconsider? Although, it may be rare for some people to present with trigeminal neuralgia, I'd have to say that everyone is different. He may not to rule out out just, yet. I hope the TN will go away soon.
432376 tn?1266257738 For this, well need help of the other symptom, the face. To me, it looks likes the pain and hypersensitivity to touch as seen in Trigeminal Neuralgia. You have described the facial pain in exactly the manner in which Trigeminal Neuralgia strikes. I am concerned here. If this is trigeminal neuralgia, and you do not have any other indication that would tell that this is a herpes virus infection, the next option is MS. I feel this should be kept in mind and ruled out accordingly.
Avatar m tn Hi, Thank you for your question. This may be Trigeminal neuralgia as you have typical one sided facial pain extending to temple and eye( ophthalmic branch of trigeminal nerve may be involved) and sore gums of the teeth of same side (maxillary branch of 5th nerve). Trigeminal neuralgia may have a triggering factor like recent history of tooth extraction, touch, cold breeze or hot sensation etc. which you need to evaluate and avoid.
405614 tn?1329144114 Compression of the trigeminal nerve by ectatic vessels, a recognized cause of idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia, was not observed. We conclude that in MS trigeminal neuralgia is usually caused by demyelinating lesions affecting pontine trigeminal pathways.
2047903 tn?1330187549 Ugh, I wish I even knew what to do. My hands and feet have been burning and tingling since last Thursday. I called my current neuro to see if it was a side effect/reaction to Trileptal which I take for trigeminal neuralgia. I finally got a call back from him 3 days later. He says it could or could not be related to the medicine, but basically said to deal with it because the medicine seems to be helping some. My MRI showed lesions and the report states the lesions are consistent with MS.
Avatar n tn So if you do not have TMJ, you might want to bring up Trigeminal Neuralgia to your physician and see what they say. I went through 4 doctors and dealt with the pain for over a year before I finally found a doctor who instantly knew what it was and started me on a medication to help the pain. I hope this helps you some.
Avatar n tn Dear Friend, Trigeminal Neuralgia is a really painful condition. However the lesion in your white matter may not linked with the same.If , after numerous MRI's nothing conclusive has been found about your brain's white matter lesions, then it's better to pause the things. However the alarming thing is the sporadic weakness in your legs.I would suggest you to get a MRI screening of the full back.Maybe it will reveal more findings rather than multiple brain MRI's.
567677 tn?1246767776 Hi neuralgia--yes, the connections and overlap between fibromyalgia and autoimmune disorders, the connections with stress, etc. are interesting (and confusing). Too much for me to figure out. :) I wouldn't say I have trigeminal neuralgia as it typically occurs, because I have had very little in the way of pain.
Avatar f tn Thanks for responding Alex. I have experienced trigeminal neuralgia, but it didn't involve the tooth pain or roof of my mouth. I will give the doc a call tomorrow if this persists. Have a good evening.
