trigeminal-neuralgia

Avatar n tn I've only had trigeminal neuralgia since Dec 17, 2008 and am 47 years old. I was told I'm "fairly young" for this disease, but I also have multiple sclerosis, so that may have been a contributing factor. Your son is much younger than me and that may be a big factor in what a doctor may advise. My advice is that your son find a doctor who specializes in TN, preferably at a teaching hospital in the nearest big city.
Avatar n tn I know someone who was recently diagnosed with TN and also has a lot of pain. It is a difficult condition. There is a forum on medhelp for Trigeminal Neuralgia where you can find support and hear others' stories. Just click on Forums in the blue menu bar up top, and scroll down to the Ts. I hope she finds relief soon!
Avatar f tn Presently taking gaba pentin for trigeminal neuralgia. As many of us struggling with issues, I have been doing a lot of research online. One thing I discovered was a 2013 study on people with Hashimoto's who also have trigeminal neuralgia. A woman on another site stated that after switching from synthroid to the natural form of thyroid meds, her numbness and pain has ended. I wanted to keep this short, so it's just the basics.
335728 tn?1331414412 I have MS and Trigeminal Neuralgia and I recently took a long trip on an airplane (8 hours). When the plane was descending every time (5 landings) I had an excrutiating pain in my right side of my cheek which subsided once the plane had landed. I am wondering if this could be a sinus problem or if it could be trigeminal neuralgia? I have no other symptoms of sinus problems...i.e. feeling congested, runny nose. I have CÖPD and Asthma as well but they are under control with medication.
Avatar n tn Hi 1987 Cry1987.. does this mean that you're twenty-one and in a lot of pain.. I'm so sorry you're going through this . It does sound like it could be trigeminal neuralgia(sp)..There is a vast amount of info on the web about this and many of the forum members have gone through TN, myself included .. Its not fun Are you see a neuro , has he/she prescribed anything for it. You could also have something else , like TMJ , you really need to have this looked at.
Avatar f tn Infection or any increase in body temperature can cause a pseudo exacerbation (and exacerbations as well) of ms, however it can also worsen symptoms of other conditions as well. I'm not a doctor - I don't imagine tattooing eyebrows could cause trigeminal neuralgia but I imagine it could set of peripheral neuralgias. Any surgery or invasive procedure can nick a nerve. The trigeminal nerve lies across your face, and you would generally have pain in other areas than your nose.

MD*; Atkinson, John L. MD*; Stien, Kathy J. RN*; Keegan, B. Mark MD‡; Pollock, Bruce E. MD*,§ CONCLUSION: Percutaneous surgery for patients with MS-TN is less likely to provide pain relief than similar operations performed for patients with idiopathic TN.
Avatar m tn Very good points you wrote here..Great stuff...I think you've made some truly interesting points.Keep up the good work.
Avatar n tn Hello there, I am 26 years old and I had a maxillofacial surgery almost exactly 3 years ago during which metal plates and screws were drilled into my jawbones and cheek areas. I checked online and my surgeon has retired since so I have no idea how to contact him. I have never had a headache in my life. Then, out of the nowhere, for the past 10 days I have had non stop burning, agonizing headaches, numbness and burning in my face and around the back of my neck.
Avatar m tn I have Trigeminal Neuralgia. Within the last two months, I have been experiencing burning and pain in my right foot (including toes). I am taking oxcarbazepine, is this a side affect or does it mean I need to increase the dose.
Avatar n tn My first attack of pain from what was diagnosed (after seeing two dentists and several Drs) as Atypical Trigeminal neuralgia took over two months to get the pain under control. The side effects from the medications were also very bad, although I was grateful for any relief from the extreme pain. I have been seen at the neurological centre and have had an MRI scan to determine if there was a vessel crossing over the Trigeminal nerve, which could be causing the pain attack.
Avatar f tn Did you ever get a reply? Sounds like Trigeminal Neuralgia Type 1 or Atypical. There is help for this! Same needs used for seizures help condition and pain attacks. Tegretol is one but many more. Thank you Neurologist treats TN. Studies happening now.
Avatar f tn I have been suffering for 2-1/2 years with oral facial pain. It began on the left and is now bilateral. I get severe, constant pain in the upper gums, teeth, cheeks, temples, jaws, neck. At times there are sharp twinges, but mostly it is a deep, constant ache. I have had close to pain-free moments, but just when i think I'm cured, it flares up. I have had 2 diagnosis. TMJ with osteoarthritis of the jaw joints and cervical spine. The other diagnosis is from a neurologist.

Avatar m tn Traumatic trigeminal neuropathy is generally not associated with trigeminal neuralgia. However, both entities may be responsive to pharmacologic intervention. Seeing a neurologist or orofacial pain specialist misadvised.
Avatar m tn It seems that Seattle does not have any support groups in the area? How do people cope when they find out they are positive for HSV 1 or 2? I was diagnosed over 3 years ago through a blood test IGg. I have pretty much isolated myself from going out, meeting anyone and I have no one to talk to at all. I got blood tested after going online and requesting the STD test through quest diagnostics laboratory. My results ccame back positive for both HSV 1 and 2.
467070 tn?1224625377 As Sanjay said, prior dental procedures are often a cause of trigeminal neuralgia. The exact mechanisms for TN are unknown. There are treatments for your pain and I suggest that you see your doctor or neurologist.
567677 tn?1246767776 Hi neuralgia--yes, the connections and overlap between fibromyalgia and autoimmune disorders, the connections with stress, etc. are interesting (and confusing). Too much for me to figure out. :) I wouldn't say I have trigeminal neuralgia as it typically occurs, because I have had very little in the way of pain.
Avatar f tn Symptomatic trigeminal neuralgia is usually caused by multiple sclerosis or by tumours arising near the trigeminal nerve root. Differential diagnosis of trigeminal neuralgia: Cluster headache - Longer-lasting pain; orbital or supraorbital; may cause patient to wake from sleep; autonomic symptoms Dental pain (e.g.
