Trigeminal neuralgia on both sides

Common Questions and Answers about Trigeminal neuralgia on both sides

trigeminal-neuralgia

152264 tn?1280354657 Since 1999 I've had what I believe are trigeminal-nerve symptoms on BOTH sides of my face.
Avatar f tn I have had it on both sides at different times (2 years apart). However, the diagnosis of TN was always after some tooth extraction (on either side), but the symptoms did not start until 4 to 5 days later when swelling and healing would be underway. It is the most painful episode I've ever had. One TN episode lasted 11 days (I was fine after the tooth extraction for 3 to 5 days then WHAM!).
Avatar n tn Hi, The common causes of shooting pains on right side of head are trigeminal neuralgia, temporal arteritis, tension headaches etc.In trigeminal neuralgia there are successive bouts of face pain. This pain occurs when a blood vessel compresses the trigeminal nerve as it leaves the brain stem. Temporal arteritis is caused due to inflammation of medium and large sized arteries bringing blood to the head.
Avatar n tn I started having cheek pain about 3 days ago on both sides of my face just the length of my cheek bone's, my teeth are find. It feels like upward pressure on my top back teeth. My cheeks feel tinling a mild like throbbing. I am 47, female. Any suggestion's ?
404715 tn?1233829631 I have TN as well and am surprised your neuro said that you couldn't have it because of imaging studies. I don't know about having it on both sides, I only have it on one side. I don't take any regular meds because mine seems to come in waves, with weeks in between. But I thought I read that Neurotin helps w/this and maybe that's an easier drug to tolerate. I don't know about having neuro symptoms in association w/a neg Lyme's test.
Avatar n tn I have been told this is uncommon to have both of these conditions and have each of them on both sides. What could be causing me to have all of them. I am under pretty good control as I take neurontin and namenda. Before I was put on namenda i was having rhizotomies almost every three months due to the excruciating pain.
429326 tn?1282328354 everything is coming back, twitches, weak leg and arm, exhausted, sore and tender scalp, trigeminal neuralgia but on both sides off and on, not real painful though.....shocking pains here, there and everywhere !! My question is does anyone know if TN can cause jaw weakness, stiffness....like you feel like you cant chew or talk anymore??? this has been going on for a week or so, both sides my jaws are so tired and stiff?? Hope everyone is doing ok....
10947 tn?1281404252 Six months ago I was diagnosed with bilateral trigeminal neuralgia (both sides of face and rare to have). It was two weeks after we had been on holiday in New Zealand. The neurologist suggested that I had picked up a virus and prescribed me medication. I have been on Tegretol, Lyrica, Trileptal, Dilatin and Neuroton with no success. I decided to do some research and also get my body checked from top to bottom.
Avatar n tn m wearing contacts, but the pain is constantly centered on my nose. I can feel both sides of my nose constantly vibrating/throbbing corresponding to my heartbeat (main syptom), accompanied by pain at the centre of my forehead above the bridge of my nose, frequent eye pain (behind the eyes), sometimes sides of head and top of head feel sudden pain as well. This is also accompanied by pressure in my top half of my head.
567677 tn?1246767776 he said to me well Utah does not have Medical Majiuana but for trigeminal neuralgia I can put you on Marinol the side effects will help you ... I asked him what it was and he told me I was just glad I wasn't presenting for it...
Avatar n tn Deshmukh, In addition to the muscle twitching which I have been experiencing, I also have daily episodes of Facial Tingling. It is on both sides of my face and to the tip of my nose. The neurolgist said that things never cross the median line, so he can't explain why I would have an effect like this on both sides. Do you feel that the anxiety I have been under could cause this? I do have TMJ, but I wear a bite splint. I am a terrible clencher.
Avatar n tn Severe pain in the lower gum area but it is on both sides which has my PC doctor, my neurolgist, my pain management dr, my neurosurgeon and my accupuncturist all baffled. Meanwhile, I am on Lyrica, which is becoming ineffective, Vicodin, which does not help much, and Ambien to knock me out at night to get some sleep. Is anyone out there who has experienced such a problem that can head me in the right direction? I am losing hope.
Avatar m tn I have atypical TN which includes pain in my upper row of teeth and gums. I have never had throat pain before but I know every case is different. I do have a knot on my right side lower jaw and just figured it was from tension. It doesn't seem to be a trigger point for me tho.
Avatar m tn It can also be due to trigeminal neuralgia due to pressure on the trigeminal nerve as comes near the surface on the face. It is difficult to comment beyond this without examination. Please consult an orthopedic specialist. Hope this helps. Do let me know if there is any thing else and keep me posted. Take care!
5598716 tn?1439143195 I am able to differentiate two different types of pain. I have a constant pain on both sides of my jaw that has episodes where it gets worse and will go into the ears. Other times it’s just that constant jaw pain. The other pain I can tell is separate and is coming from a specific tooth. The pain in the tooth responds to certain stimuli as mentioned above. My appointment with the neurologist is coming up on April 27, 2018.
Avatar m tn Traumatic trigeminal neuropathy is generally not associated with trigeminal neuralgia. However, both entities may be responsive to pharmacologic intervention. Seeing a neurologist or orofacial pain specialist misadvised.
Avatar f tn Secondary Problems-Tension in temples and Sinus Pressure Very tense pressure in temples on both sides of head. When rubbed can feel the spot that is tight and applied pressure on spot causes pain, ocassional sharp shooting pain in back of head (probably triggered from diary products) Strong sinus pressure around nose and eyes. Medication/Treatment History Primary care physician said possible trigeminal neuralgia. Prescribed Gabapentin, Oxcarbazephine, Sumatriptan.
Avatar f tn She said from the pains I was describing (shooting pain around my right eye and into my head, as well as pressure on the sides of my head), that it sounded like trigeminal neuralgia (which is caused by a virus, such as a cold sore). I had an MRI and an MRA, which came back clear, thank god, but that also discredits the trigeminal neuralgia (apparently something would have shown up on the MRA from that). I went for a follow up and told her that I am still feeling really tired.
Avatar n tn The pain is nonstop burning, electric shocks, numbing, like someone is cutting my lower gumline with a razor. The pain is on both sides, and numbing too. It has been getting worse and I have tried all the medications; neurontin, etc. All of this happened after surgery "to shave a bony mass". I had three courses of antibiotics for swelling and pain. I am 57 and very depressed. I cannot tolerate the pain and my blood pressure is 150/100 normally even with lysinopril.
Avatar f tn That was another thing I wondered as if I wait too long, I get pain in the right temple with it. How does it jump from side to side? It's kind of funny the way it effects my teeth...it will go on the lower teeth to the last front tooth on the left side. It travels no further. My dentist explained that was where the left nerve stopped. Lydia and drsdonthelp, are either one of you currently on Tegretol? That may be one that I will be able to ask about on Monday.
Avatar f tn Hello unnerved, Trigeminal nerve which is responsible for sensations of the face. The cause trigeminal neuralgia is probably a blood vessel pressing on the trigeminal nerve. Tumors and multiple sclerosis can also cause it, but in some cases the cause is unknown. The pain is sudden, severe, electric shock-like, stabbing that is typically felt on one side of the jaw or cheek.
