Trigeminal neuralgia both sides

Common Questions and Answers about Trigeminal neuralgia both sides

trigeminal-neuralgia

152264 tn?1280354657 Since 1999 I've had what I believe are trigeminal-nerve symptoms on BOTH sides of my face.
Avatar f tn I have had it on both sides at different times (2 years apart). However, the diagnosis of TN was always after some tooth extraction (on either side), but the symptoms did not start until 4 to 5 days later when swelling and healing would be underway. It is the most painful episode I've ever had. One TN episode lasted 11 days (I was fine after the tooth extraction for 3 to 5 days then WHAM!).
Avatar n tn Hi, The common causes of shooting pains on right side of head are trigeminal neuralgia, temporal arteritis, tension headaches etc.In trigeminal neuralgia there are successive bouts of face pain. This pain occurs when a blood vessel compresses the trigeminal nerve as it leaves the brain stem. Temporal arteritis is caused due to inflammation of medium and large sized arteries bringing blood to the head.
Avatar n tn I started having cheek pain about 3 days ago on both sides of my face just the length of my cheek bone's, my teeth are find. It feels like upward pressure on my top back teeth. My cheeks feel tinling a mild like throbbing. I am 47, female. Any suggestion's ?
404715 tn?1233829631 Not having any doctors here to help me I went out of town to an emergency where they then put me on tegretol and told me I most likley have trigeminal neuralgia and set up an appointment with a neurologist.I was on tegretol for two weeks and waiting to go to my neurologist appointment but the pain was still unbearable so I went to the emergency in my city where they changed my meds and put me on neurotin which took a week to work and most of the pain is gone.
Avatar n tn I have been told this is uncommon to have both of these conditions and have each of them on both sides. What could be causing me to have all of them. I am under pretty good control as I take neurontin and namenda. Before I was put on namenda i was having rhizotomies almost every three months due to the excruciating pain.
429326 tn?1282328354 everything is coming back, twitches, weak leg and arm, exhausted, sore and tender scalp, trigeminal neuralgia but on both sides off and on, not real painful though.....shocking pains here, there and everywhere !! My question is does anyone know if TN can cause jaw weakness, stiffness....like you feel like you cant chew or talk anymore??? this has been going on for a week or so, both sides my jaws are so tired and stiff?? Hope everyone is doing ok....
10947 tn?1281404252 Six months ago I was diagnosed with bilateral trigeminal neuralgia (both sides of face and rare to have). It was two weeks after we had been on holiday in New Zealand. The neurologist suggested that I had picked up a virus and prescribed me medication. I have been on Tegretol, Lyrica, Trileptal, Dilatin and Neuroton with no success. I decided to do some research and also get my body checked from top to bottom.
Avatar n tn m wearing contacts, but the pain is constantly centered on my nose. I can feel both sides of my nose constantly vibrating/throbbing corresponding to my heartbeat (main syptom), accompanied by pain at the centre of my forehead above the bridge of my nose, frequent eye pain (behind the eyes), sometimes sides of head and top of head feel sudden pain as well. This is also accompanied by pressure in my top half of my head.
567677 tn?1246767776 he said to me well Utah does not have Medical Majiuana but for trigeminal neuralgia I can put you on Marinol the side effects will help you ... I asked him what it was and he told me I was just glad I wasn't presenting for it...
Avatar n tn 4) I was referred to a Neurologist and and ENT, where both flt it was TMJ, not Trigeminal Neuralgia, and I stopped the Tegrotol. I was not weened off the medication which I now understand I should have been. I took it for about 3 weeks. 5) After I stopped the Tegrotal, I started having muscle twitching, but the facial tingling/numbness began about 4 days into the medication.
Avatar n tn I may have trigeminal neuralgia in the mandibular branch. Severe pain in the lower gum area but it is on both sides which has my PC doctor, my neurolgist, my pain management dr, my neurosurgeon and my accupuncturist all baffled. Meanwhile, I am on Lyrica, which is becoming ineffective, Vicodin, which does not help much, and Ambien to knock me out at night to get some sleep. Is anyone out there who has experienced such a problem that can head me in the right direction? I am losing hope.
Avatar m tn I have atypical TN which includes pain in my upper row of teeth and gums. I have never had throat pain before but I know every case is different. I do have a knot on my right side lower jaw and just figured it was from tension. It doesn't seem to be a trigger point for me tho.
Avatar m tn It can also be due to trigeminal neuralgia due to pressure on the trigeminal nerve as comes near the surface on the face. It is difficult to comment beyond this without examination. Please consult an orthopedic specialist. Hope this helps. Do let me know if there is any thing else and keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar m tn Traumatic trigeminal neuropathy is generally not associated with trigeminal neuralgia. However, both entities may be responsive to pharmacologic intervention. Seeing a neurologist or orofacial pain specialist misadvised.
Avatar f tn From reading my info could this be trigeminal neuralgia or atypical trigeminal neuralgia, acute sinusitis, tinnitus, TMJ? Other than MRI are there any other procedures and scans that can be done to get a better look at my sinuses and internal ear. Can wisdom teeth cause these symptoms? My dentist recommends I extract all 4 wisdom tooth, can these extractions cause my symptom to increase.?
Avatar f tn For those of you with trigeminal neuralgia, would you mind me asking you what it feels like? I have been assuming, for a while, that what I have in my face is bilateral trigeminal neurlagia. But, perhaps I'm wrong.
Avatar f tn She said from the pains I was describing (shooting pain around my right eye and into my head, as well as pressure on the sides of my head), that it sounded like trigeminal neuralgia (which is caused by a virus, such as a cold sore). I had an MRI and an MRA, which came back clear, thank god, but that also discredits the trigeminal neuralgia (apparently something would have shown up on the MRA from that). I went for a follow up and told her that I am still feeling really tired.
Avatar n tn My suggestion would be to find a large teaching hospital with a Facial Pain clinic. These doctors spend all their time dealing with Facial Pain and may be able to help you.
Avatar f tn Hello unnerved, Trigeminal nerve which is responsible for sensations of the face. The cause trigeminal neuralgia is probably a blood vessel pressing on the trigeminal nerve. Tumors and multiple sclerosis can also cause it, but in some cases the cause is unknown. The pain is sudden, severe, electric shock-like, stabbing that is typically felt on one side of the jaw or cheek.
Avatar f tn That was another thing I wondered as if I wait too long, I get pain in the right temple with it. How does it jump from side to side? It's kind of funny the way it effects my teeth...it will go on the lower teeth to the last front tooth on the left side. It travels no further. My dentist explained that was where the left nerve stopped. Lydia and drsdonthelp, are either one of you currently on Tegretol? That may be one that I will be able to ask about on Monday.
Avatar n tn It sounds to me like you could have a sensitive/over-active nerve called trigeminal neuralgia. It can be very painful. I would recommend seeing a neurologist bc they should be able to help.
