Tricor triglycerides

Common Questions and Answers about Tricor triglycerides

tricor

Avatar n tn Also, if you cut empty carbs such as sugars, breads and pastas out of your diet it will help reduce your triglycerides as well. You really want your level below 150 if possible. I am on Tricor and Vytorin, which is just simvastatin and zetia. The Tricor has lowered mine from 333 to 145. I would like to think that my diet and exercise has helped as well!
Avatar n tn There is a very potent medicine in the drug class known as fenofibrates, named Tricor that was created to specifically reduce triglycerides. It works great, but carries the same warnings as statins. Also, Tricor should not be taken with statins but sometimes is in very extreme cases of total high cholesterol and triglycerides. My total cholesterol at the time was 486.
Avatar m tn My doctor just started me on Tricor and my blood sugar levels have gone up as well. Prior to being on Tricor, my fasting blood sugar has always been between 89 and 101. Now they range from 119 to 125. Any thoughts on alternative medications to lower high tryglicerides?
822804 tn?1298226302 I have learned that I had hashimotos disease but not until after my thyroid was removed. My triglycerides are 263..how can I lower that number.I am currently taking fish oil 1,000mg - they have increased my dosage from twice daily to three times daily..any other suggestions?
Avatar m tn Found out that I have high triglycerides. I have been taking 2 baby aspirins for 15 years. What meds would be safe and not cause a bleeding problem ?
Avatar m tn Yes, Tricor is great for TGLs. It is a fenofibrate, is very effective, has few side effects and safe with other drugs like statns. You can also avoid empty carbs like sugars, pasta and bread. Also, don't drink as that will increase TGLs. He also needs to get his LDL down and HDL up. These numbers could well be drivien by his thyroid as it controls one's metabolism which controls your lipids.
Avatar f tn My brother and I both have this and it is totally under control with meds for both of us. My triglycerides were over 2100 before I started taking Tricor. My brother takes Tricor and Lovastatin. Both of us now have normal readings.
Avatar m tn Has the doctor prescribed a statin for you to take. I know my triglycerides were over 2100. I looked this up on the internet and found that it is called familial hypercholesterolemia. I was given Tricor and Lovastatin to control this. Now my cholesterol is in normal range.
Avatar n tn My triglycerides were still at 925 last month. At one point 2 years ago they were over 2100. In my case it's a genetic thing. 2 of my brothers have the same problem. I now take my meds which are Tricor and Pravastatin. But in addition to those I take 500mg of Niacin in the morning and again in the evening. He needs to get that number down because I have had multiple heart attacks from the plaque in my blood. And that comes from the high levels of triglycerides in the blood.
Avatar n tn Fibrates break down the particles that make triglycerides and use them in other ways in your body. Lower triglycerides can lead to increased levels of HDL ("good") cholesterol. •Cholesterol Absorption Inhibitors (Brand name: Zetia) A cholesterol absorption inhibitor is used to lower levels of LDL ("bad") cholesterol. This medicine can also be given in combination with a statin.
Avatar f tn Before you take any other medications, you should try to quit smoking. Fenofibrates in combination with reduced fat diet is one way of getting triglycerides down.
Avatar m tn You asked if I had Diabetes I have a strong family history of Diabetes and take Tricor for cholesterol (actually high Triglycerides) but get my blood checked every 6 months and sugars levels are never even close to a problem. A peripheral sypmtom I did not mention is the loss of the sense of smell but I have had ongoing sinusitus and sinus surgery over the years.
1310757 tn?1273645428 I think your numbers are wrong, I don't think I've every seen an HDL that high. Are you sure it's not your Triglycerides that were that high? Fenofibrates are usually used to control Tri's, not HDL. 40 sounds like your HDL. Take another look and let us know.
Avatar n tn I tried the diet, exercise and Omega 3 Fish oil alternative and finally gave in when my triglycerides hit 2100. The Tricor has corrected that problem. So it's a matter of peference and what you are comfortable with.
Avatar m tn I also take 25mg of HCTZ (water pill, basically) and 145mg of Tricor, which is for triglycerides. I also take 1200mg of Fish Oil and Flax Seed Oil pills for my triglycerides and general health, as well as a multi-vitamin. Doctors - I've been to a Cardiologist and had an EKG and a stress test--nothing wrong with my heart so far. The only thing that was weird about my blood test was my C-Reactive Protein levels were slightly elevated.
529224 tn?1400648219 For me it is in my genetics. My Triglycerides were over 2100 before starting on Tricor.
Avatar f tn I am putting letters (A,B,C, etc.) beside my questions for more ease of you answering them- hope I don't overwhelm you! The way I see what you are saying, your husband has two different issues in the lipids and the thyroid. With a TSH of 300 rather than 3.0 for example, which would be in normal range, and a free T4 of only point 11, your pituitary is trying desperately with enormous amounts of thyroid stimulating hormone to stimulate your husband's thyroid....
237039 tn?1264258057 My doctor's office called yesterday afternoon to give me the results of my blood work. Seems my triglycerides were so high they weren't able to measure my bad cholesterol. My total cholesterol was over 2,250. That seems impossible, but that's what they told me. He called out Tricor 145 mg for me to start taking. Anyone else ever hear about levels that high?
237039 tn?1264258057 I had always said no to statins in the past because I had infectious hepatitis (not any type C, caught it from my younger brother) as a child and feared I had liver damage from that. But when the doctor called after that test I decided I would try Tricor. (fenofibrate I think is what it is) I took it for a month, then stopped, then again a month later took it for a month. Then stopped again. My brother jumped all over me this year and is forcing me to take it.
