After 7 years of therapy taking Crestor and Tricor (fenofibrate), I, too, started experiencing intense pain in my legs, feet, back, and arms. My Dr. took me off Crestor last month but the pain returned within a few days, although not as intense as it was prior to my stopping Crestor. I took myself off fenofibrate just a couple of days ago and "Wow" what a difference! I can actually sleep at night and notice that the pain is dissipating more and more each day.
Wow, I wasn't aware of Tricor causing elevation of blood sugar. Seems I need to research Tricor a bit more.
There is a very potent medicine in the drug class known as fenofibrates, named Tricor that was created to specifically reduce triglycerides. It works great, but carries the same warnings as statins. Also, Tricor should not be taken with statins but sometimes is in very extreme cases of total high cholesterol and triglycerides. My total cholesterol at the time was 486.
I have been having shortness of breath, a tightness/heaviness in my chest, chest pain at times, no wheezing can be heard by the dr with stethoscope so she is not leaning toward asthma. I've had normal heart tests (just got out of the hospital because of the chest pain & er thought I was having a heart attack), pulmonary function test was normal. I am 40, female, NEVER smoked or used drugs, no alcohol usage.
My brother and I both have this and it is totally under control with meds for both of us. My triglycerides were over 2100 before I started taking Tricor. My brother takes Tricor and Lovastatin. Both of us now have normal readings.
At about the same time he began to have chest pain when walking which has become more servere. He also has pain when he becomes nervous or anxious which he never had before the surgery. On our follow up visit his Dr told him the tests shows a portion of his heart where there are 3 bypasses is not getting enough blood. Although we realized his recovery was going backwards we were shocked. Teh doctor feels plague is the cause of the problem.
In addition to that of course I have to take a statin and Tricor. Good news is that Tricor will have a generic out in May. I was also told by my pharmicist that Plavix has a generic coming out in July. Ask your pharmicist if there is a generic of Niaspan due out any time soon.
And as Flycaster has stated, with the Niacin there is a flushing feeling also. It only bothered me if I didn't take an aspirin just before taking the niacin. My doctor told me about that.
I am 48 year old female, have had high cholestrol for which I have been on Zetia & Tricor for several years, now is almost normal. I had a bad reaction to the statins- ended up in the hospital with very high liver enzymes. Recently, I have been getting very lightheaded and experiencing pain in my upper arms. My doctor refered me to a cardiologist who performed the heart ultrasound and the holter which came back normal.
I also noticed topical numbness on the outer sides of my knees caps. Also, if I kneel on my knees in certain spots, the pain is crippling.
Please help me.
Now a new develpoment happened is slightly elevated TSH of 4.59, which was normal till 1 year back. So please advice what this indicates? is he developing hypothyroidism? how can he regulate his TG and TSH?
You can google the warnings and side effects of that one. I also take Tricor for my hyperlipidemia. But that is a fenofibrate, not a statin. Have you ever tried the grandfather of statins, Lipitor? Talk to your doctor and get the straight answers.
To lower them, I would start taking a good, fish oil supplement, a high potency B complex and Vitamin C. Also, cut way back on your sugar intake. Make sure you get exercise as well. After a few months on this regime your numbers should start improving.
My Tryglecerides are reading 300 and my cholesterol is over 200, I'm on 145 mg of Tricor and my prescription went up from 20 mg. to 40 mgs of Crestor; I was wondering what the possible side effects of taking these two everyday are. If someone would please write me and let me know. I would truly appreciate it.

Well, I stoped taking my Tricor and Zocor for a few months and my heart palps were gone. The problem is that my cholesterol numbers went back up. I started back on the statins and low and behold the palps returned. Anyone that has PVC's and PAC's knows how much of a nuisance they can be both physically and emotionally. Is there any other drug that is not in the same class as statins that works on cholesterol. I already eat oatmeal, take fish oil, etc.

Any fenofibrate is safe to use. One name is Tricor and it does a good job lowering serum TGL's. You can also impact your TGL's by cutting out all empty carbs like breads, pastas, sugar and alcohol as it metabolizes as sugars. I would try that first unless your numbers a very high, in excess of 400.
the first two times, there were a few blockages - 10, 18 and 20%
The last time was in December 2013 with a different cardiologist (I moved across the state)
and he said I had NO blockages at all. HUH??? My lipid profiles are still horrible even with medications.
Pravacol, Tricor and Welchol.
His answer for this question was: "Those medications took the blockages away."
Of course, I am no doctor but this seems funny to me.
