Avatar m tn As I had previously experience of psoriasis, I thought I may help it with triamcinolone cream. After using triamcinolone, I didn't have the itch but once I stopped using it, the itch would come back. I injected triamcinolone (1/2 ml in two points) under skin (1-2 mm depth). The itch went but the area remained little red for about 2 weeks. Then the area turned into whiter or brighter (which was visible only in sunlight).
Avatar m tn Hello, Treatment options for vitiligo include steroids, psoralen photochemotherapy(PUVA),depigmentation and surgical therapy like skin grafting, micropigmentation or tattooing and autologous melanocyte transplants. However the choice of therapy depends on the number of white patches; their location, sizes, and how widespread they are and the option that is convenient to you. Elidel is an immunomodulator and is used for vitiligo when used with UVB narrowband treatments.
Avatar f tn My son, at 8 months, was given the aformentioned med for treatment of excema. The warning my doctor gave was to ensure it doesn't get in his face.My husband and I deployed leaving my mother in law to care for our son. She mistakenly put the med on his face and the area around his mouth is now discolored. He's a brown skinned baby with a huge white patch around his mouth. She applied this med over a year ago and we have been told by other doc that the color would come back in a year.
1282890 tn?1281364683 Hello, I am a fifteen year old male who first developed Vitiligo when I was twelve. Since then (and particularly) in the past few months, it has spread to about 30-40% of my body. Half of my face is now de-pigmented. It is distressing for me, so I personally made the decision to see a councilor about it, he has helped as much as he can, but thinks it would be a good idea to get it fixed. He seems to think I will not be satisfied unless I have it fixed.
Avatar f tn It sounds like vitiligo, but why would your doctor not have said so if that is what it is? Vitiligo is harmless, and not uncommon, some famous people have had it (I believe Michael Jackson was said to have had it, and there is a well-known model who has it). But no doctor would shrug it off as a birthmark, they would call it by its proper name. You could google it and see if it looks familiar.
Avatar n tn In fact, about 30% of vitiligo cases run in families. Statistically, 10 to 20 percent of people who have vitiligo fully regain their skin color. This is true for the those who are young, whose vitiligo reaches its peak in less than 6 months and is located mainly on the facial area. 358699 tn?1297646442 Is there any truth that Vitiligo may be caused by vitamin deficiencies? I have Vitiligo for over 25 years and have never been tested for vitamin deficiencies. My primary care physician did test my thyroid when I first met him when he noticed I had Vitiligo and I found out I have hypothyroidism. I am being treated for that but I've read that this autoimmune disorder may be caused by vitamin deficiencies and my doctor has never mentioned I should be tested.
Avatar m tn Hello Dr. HHH/ Dr. EWH, I'm a straight male. I have taken a HIV I & II Antigen and Antibody Screening Test 12 weeks after my exposure, which should be considered low risk as I read some of the previous threads here. Unprotected Oral Sex and Protected Vaginal Sex, both insertive to a commercial sex worker. Result is non-reactive. During the window period, I have stopped smoking. I'm quite prone to mouth ulcers and quitting smoking made the mouth ulcers happened more frequent.
Avatar f tn The main goal of treating vitiligo is to improve appearance. Therapy for vitiligo takes a long time—it usually must be continued for 6 to 18 months. Current treatment options for vitiligo include medical - topical steroid therapy , oral and topical psoralen photochemotherapy and depigmentation using hydroquinone; surgical-autologous skin grafts and micropigmentation, and adjunctive therapies- sunscreens and cosmetic products.
Avatar n tn I think they should start looking towards hormones as a cause or explanation. But as for treating Vitiligo?, don’t we all take enough medicines Rx as well as herbal already as it is? Do we really need to add another, just to make those who are uneducated in it feel better? =) Always carry and apply sunscreen, feel good about yourself, and others will follow.. Have a great day..
Avatar f tn Have you learned anymore about the connection between your vitiligo and hypothyroidism? My husband was recently diagnosed with hypothyroid (actually, it isn't even functioning). He has had vitiligo for many years. We are just starting to put the two together!
Avatar m tn Thanks for responding. I am aware of its purpose, however l have used it for 3 years and it stops the bumps from appearing. As soon as l get tingling, l start to use it and l do not get an outbreak. I am just healing on a lesion that l did not use it on. I have had this lesion for 8weeks and on valtrex the past 2.

Avatar m tn Vitiligo is a persistent and chronic disease and may need phototherapy. For focal vitiligo, considering genital involvement, there may be appropriate therapies indicated for this type of condition. The condition does not appear infectious to me and based on what you have mentioned regarding the presence of similar depigmented spots in other areas of the body, this strengthens the diagnosis of vitiligo.

Avatar f tn I have vitiligo. It has steadily progressed over the span of 15 years. Do you know of a possible reason for this condition and is there any treatment to slow or stop the progress? I have learned to deal with the attention that I get but it would be nice to have some answers for myself and others when I get questioned about it.
Avatar n tn The causes of the vitiligo are not fully know. Auto-immunity is the most prominent causes of the vitiligo. Second thing is Inheritance, it have also a minor contribution in vitiligo skin condition. 2. Nevus depigmentosus can be easily differentiated from vitiligo. Although age factor in not much involvement in the Nevu depigmentosus but in about in 19% of the cases these are noted at birth. Their size may however grow in proportion to growth of the body.
