Avatar n tn The only treatment I have seen for flathead is a helmet made especially for infants who have this flathead appearance. Years ago, there was no treatment available. I believe that once the plates of the skull close together, there is no treatment. You would have to see an orthopedist to determine if anything can be done. Second choice would be a plastic surgeon. They can do so much nowadays, removing bone and replacing it with other bones from somewhere else on the body.

Avatar n tn Phototherapy — Phototherapy (light therapy) is the most common medical treatment for jaundice in newborns. In most cases, phototherapy is the only treatment required. It consists of exposing an infant's skin to a special blue light, which breaks bilirubin down into parts that are easier to eliminate in the stool and urine. Treatment with phototherapy is successful for most infants.

Avatar f tn When this occurs, a person cannot maintain his or her blood glucose levels and will develop hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) within a few hours after eating. The low levels of glucose in the blood of these individuals often result in chronic hunger, fatigue, and irritability. These symptoms are especially noticeable in infants. Since people with GSD I are able to store glucose as glycogen but unable to release it normally, stores of glycogen build up in the liver over time and cause it to swell.

Avatar m tn My 4 month old son has been diagnosed with high myopia (-20 in one eye and -22 in the other). We have seen two specialists and they recommend different methods of treatment. Specialist A recommends fully correcting his vision with contacts; however, specialist B recommends under-correcting him by approximately 30%. Specialist B believes if we fully correct his vision now it will only get worse over time; however, if we under-correct there may be some improvement.
Avatar n tn Hi Tricia1, I'm not a physician. I'm a long time diabetic who reads a lot about this disease. Unfortunately, I don't know enough about hyperinsulism as a "chronic" condition to begin to answer your question. I know it is a devastating condition in infants & young children. In general, hyperinsulinism can also be transient when we have -- for a short interval -- too much insulin in our bloodstreams.
1654177 tn?1319838494 Hi everybody! In the past 3 months, I wake up in the morning and my feet are numb. After I get up and walk around the numbness goes away within about 5-10 minutes. I also urinate often and get fatigues (which may be normal, plus I drink a lot of water). I seem to keep my weight down too easily these days, I eat a lot, and I only mildly exercise (walking, hiking and pilates). Anyway, I told my doctor at Kaiser and she ran a random blood glucose test (non-fasting).

Avatar f tn It will remain in baby's system. Especially if you took them for more than 2 weeks. You need to let your OB know even if it leaves both systems because if you we're abusing them and taking them for a long period of time we can't diagnose the outcome. No judgement, but please for the sake of your innocent baby tell your Dr. You made the right decision to stop taking them. Best wishes!
Avatar n tn html Although TSH concentrations in the first few months of life typically are higher, persistent basal TSH concentrations of greater than 10 mU per L after two weeks of age generally are considered abnormal and should be treated. Infants who do not receive treatment should have repeat measurement of FT4 and TSH at two and four weeks, with initiation of treatment if results remain abnormal. It seems, according to this, that treatment is warranted at levels over 10 for infants.
Avatar n tn NP had never heard of that type of hypoglycemia--so we will see
Avatar f tn The majority of babies born to mothers on beta blockers do not require treatment for any of these side effects. Treatment is sometimes required for hypoglycemia, and much less frequently for respiratory distress or low heart rate/low blood pressure. Overall, the decision of when to use beta blockers and when to stop is best made by your obstetrician/perinatologist. The risk vs.

Avatar n tn t know much about pre-diabetes, however, I do know that hypoglycemia is a condition, in and of itself, that requires medical treatment. I have heard that some people with hypoglycemia develop diabetes at some point in their lives, but many do not. Hypoglycemia is a condition, according to my understanding, where your body metabolizes the sugars you eat very quickly, essentially leaving your body without the fuel it needs to run on.
