Common Questions and Answers about Hypoglycemia in newborn infants

hypoglycemia

Avatar m tn I had a question about some lab values that were taken of my newborn in hospital. He was born at 39 weeks with no fetal distress in utero or during labor. He had APGAr scores of 6 at 1 minute and 7 at 5 minutes. He had a loose nuchal cord around neck. He had respiratory distress at birth and was dx with aspiration of amniotic fluid with respiratory symptoms and a small right sided pneumothorax that did not require a chest tube and hypovolemia. My question is about his ABG's.
Avatar f tn I want to visit my hometown was wondering when is it safe to carry a newborn in flight. It takes about 12 -13 hrs flight time for my country. Any advices or experience? Thanks in advance.
Avatar f tn And for so long its not like its 5hrs.. thats a big chunk your newborn is in daycare. I am going to let my newborn be taken care of not just myself or husband but family members.
Avatar f tn Dr. Chasnoff recommends that these infants should have routine ultra-sound evaluations of their kidneys in order to rule out such defects. •There is evidence that the use of cocaine shortly before birth can be associated with cerebral infarction (stroke) which damages the brain of the newborn.
Avatar n tn Unconjugated hyperbilirubinemia in term and late preterm infants. Premature infants are at greater risk for hyperbilirubinemia because brain toxicity occurs at lower levels of bilirubin than in term infants. As a result, premature infants are treated at lower levels of bilirubin but with the same treatments discussed here. Encourage feeding — Providing adequate breastmilk or formula is an important part of preventing and treating jaundice.
2120802 tn?1334878594 Yes perfectly okay, however you should feed absolutely as much breastmilk as possible, using a pump if you have to, because there are many beneficial things in breastmilk that are not in formula. Breastmilk contains antibodies and other immune factors that pass on to the infant, and help keep him free of illness. However if your natural supply is insufficient, that's all there is to it, better to suplement..Congratulations on the birth let us know how she is doping ..
7540649 tn?1395719596 This might be a dumb question, but I'm surprisingly unsure about this: can newborn infants sleep in a playpen as their crib? I was given a fold-away playpen today by a coworker, and I'm just not sure whether the baby will be okay in there if I'm using it all the time. Do I need any kind of special bed or padding or anything? I'm pretty sure I don't, and that it's fine.
Avatar f tn I noticed that my newborn son involuntary jerks his leg when I tap his back for burping. Is this normal? I know knee jerk or leg jerk will only happen when you tap certain area.
Avatar f tn m only asking so I can know wen to take my son off newborn formula when he gets here in a bout two weeks thanks ladies...
647852 tn?1251247846 Opioid medications (such as morphine, fentanyl, and sometime methadone) are often given to newborn infants, including extremely premature infants, to help control pain and discomfort. Depending upon the situation, one drug may be preferred over another. This class of pain medications has a very long history of safe use in premature infants.
Avatar n tn It usually manifest itself as a cold in adults and older children, but can cause serious problems in infants. RSV can cause lower respitory infections, breathing problems, pneumonia or even death. According to statistics, over 125,000 infants are hospitalized annually with Respiratory Syncytial Virus, resulting in more than 500 deaths. RSV can be contracted by placing your hand in your mouth after you have come in contact with an infected person or surface.
Avatar n tn The corrected QT interval on an electrocardiogram (ECG/EKG) in a newborn is not the same as it is in older infants and children. It is common for the QTc to be between 440 and 500 msec in the first week of life. After this time, it should revert to the "normal" and in fact the normal QTc can be up to 450 msec in males. So the variable QTc interval in the first 3 days of life does not mean much, UNLESS there is a family history of prolonged QT syndrome.
Avatar n tn My son is 9 years old and he has been complaining of pain in his mouth when I looked inside his mouth he has big white dots all over his tongue and both sides of his mouth/cheeks. Could someone tell me what could be wrong or should I take him to the doctor to be checked out. What could it be?
Avatar f tn How many weeks do u recommend doing pictures? Will a place like jcpenny do both newborn and family portrait?
Avatar f tn All babies can tell if you have milk. I work in childcare with infants and when I have been pregnant or breastfeeding the babies will try to find it if they are breastfed.
1035252 tn?1427227833 I noticed that several people have asked recently about a forum dedicated to the parenting of newborns and/or infants, since the only MH group starts with age 1-5. I started a group specifically for the age of Newborn up to 1 year...so please feel free to join and ask any questions under the sun OR to post if you find any pertinent information (such as information from reputable sources about infant equipment safety recalls, or information about infant health and care).
Avatar f tn My son is 6 days old and hasn't pooped in two days any ideas on how to help him?
Avatar f tn Ladies I have a baby tub with the inflatable seat for infants, I was wondering where could I get a pump from to blow it up with?
Avatar f tn Dear blondie12, The chatter like movements that you describe is known as “jitteriness”. Neonates have an immature nervous system which gradually develops as they grow. This might cause jittery movements in some infants for the first several weeks of birth. If it is present occasionally since birth and your infant is otherwise healthy/active, I do not think this is something serious. However, jitteriness can also be caused by some metabolic conditions such as calcium insufficiency.
Avatar n tn Normal, or innocent, murmurs can be heard in up to 77% of all newborn infants. However, approximately 1% of all babies born has something structurally wrong with the heart, otherwise known as a congenital heart defect. Furthermore, I am guessing that when you say that they think that his heart appears “round”, they are making this finding on interpretation of a chest radiograph, or chest X-ray. Unfortunately, these are not the most exact tools for diagnosis.
Avatar f tn Do you want to hear a crazy thing I saw! In the neighborhood we lived in with our first newborn, my neighbor had a baby two weeks before me. We had these houses where the garage was under the house so you had a stone wall alone the driveway. She set her infant carrier on that wall. It fell off . .. upside down WITH her newborn in it. Baby was FINE!! I got such a first hand eye opener as to how safe those things are!~!
8628831 tn?1407267564 Yeah but as long as your baby doesn't have that the formula is intended for infants. That's what they give in hospitals.
168006 tn?1241012961 Aspen was 9 months on our first plane trip and got super sick. Germs and airports and newborns don't mix.
Avatar f tn m not exactly sure of how it came about or how common it is in infants but I know that if you go to a health food store and buy probiotics for infants, it usually helps with thrush. I've had thrush in my mouth as a teenager and I can tell you it was the WORST!! It's soo painful, so if your baby is very uncomfortable then you know why. I hope it clears up fast! If you are breastfeeding, I think that helps it go away quicker too!
