Avatar m tn I was taking l-tyrosine and 5-htp for some anxiety issues i have.It was working great but then i found out i'm hypo and have hashimoto's disease. My thyroid levels are back to normal with the right levorothroxine dosage but still feel like crap.Is it possible to start back up on l-tyrosine and 5-htp?I take my thyroid meds at night so i'd figure i could go with the l-tyrosine in the morning time.
Avatar f tn The amino acid tyrosine works in a joint effort with iodine to produce thyroid hormones T4 and T3. Tyrosine provides the structural foundation for thyroid hormones. Low levels of tyrosine levels is linked to a reduction in thyroid hormones and also a decrease in neurotransmitters like dopamine affecting the central nervous system (12).
Avatar m tn i was taking l-tyrosine caplets for awhile too see if it would help regulate hypothyroidism.i havent been diagnosed with it,but it runs in my family and i feel like i might have it.i would take it 3 times a day starting at 500 mg,all the way to 7 grams which is supposed too be the maximum.after i upped the dosage every week i could tell a difference in how much better i felt.it only lasted a couple days until i reupped it too the next higher dose.
Avatar f tn Yes, I take L-Tyrosine along with many other herbs and OTC supplements. For me it helps with depression associated with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. For 10 years I was having problems and doctors thought I was nuts. I finally found a doctor who diagnosed my Hashimotos. But those 10 years of being untreated destroyed my health. I ended up with a huge weight gain (150 pounds), high blood pressure, high cholesterol and Type 2 Diabetes, depression, chronic fatigue and chronic all over body pain.

Avatar n tn I plan on taking L-Tyrosine to improve my thyroid function (currently non-med, sub-clinical hypo). Has anyone taken this, and are there any side effects? I'm most concerned about hair loss.
798555 tn?1292787551 Tyrosine is mostly involved in the production of norepinephrine and serotonin. It can be stimulating and it can be relaxing depending on the person. It's most often used in the treatment of depression, but obviously has many uses in the body. The trend these days is to treat pain and fatigue with antidepressants, particularly snris that target both norepinephrine and serotonin such as Cymbalta. Recently approved for treatment of fibromyalgia.
Avatar f tn if you are taking l-tyorsine for energy is needs b6 to help get absorbed...so start out with 1000mgs of l-tyrosine and 50mgs of b6 or 2000mgs of l-tyrosine and 100mgs of b6.. you can adjust according to how it makes you feel...i didnt like too much because i got some anxiety and felt a little jittery....take it when you wake up on an empty stomach at 30 minutes before food..
Avatar m tn You can also add kelp, this is natural iodine and good for the thyroid, whether it be high or low. L-Tyrosine, an amino acid is good for thyroid support too. Why are you are Zocor, this is for high cholesterol.
Avatar f tn L-Tyrosine is also beneficial to the nervous system and can be helpful for stress reduction, poor sex drive, chronic fatigue and depression. Together with iodine, L-Tyrosine is needed for proper thyroid function. May help persons with Parkinson's disease, or those going through drug addiction withdrawal.

920032 tn?1550680156 What reason does your doctor give for not treating your thyroid? Your FT levels are way too low on the ranges... What adrenal condition are you being treated for? Avatar m tn What exactly does L-tyrosine do for the body while going through a detox?
317787 tn?1473358451 If you are taking prescription thyroid hormone medication, you should only take L-tyrosine under the direction of your doctor. DO NOT take L-tyrosine if you have high blood pressure or have symptoms of mania. Tyrosine may interact with Levodopa. DO NOT take an iodine supplement unless directed to by your doctor. Iodine is only effective when hypothyroidism is caused by iodine deficiency, which is rare in the developed world. Too much iodine can actually cause hypothyroidism.
Avatar m tn Hi Everyone. Well I'm at day 18 clean and still hanging in there. Tried the Thomas Recipe starting yesterday to try and get my energy back and my mood better. I have always reacted oddly to medications and such so I wasn't surprised when I started getting a buzz from the L-tyrosine,b-6 and 5HTP. Have to say didn't much like it and I only took 1000 mg of the L-tyrosine. Only 500 today and I think I'm ok with that. Now.......
