- my problem
I was diagnosed with depression and panic attacks in 2000- started on paxil with good effect. Stopped 2 times but had to go back on paxil months later due to panic attacks returning along with depression. In 2005 I shifted to Efexor XR, 150 mg and realized I would be on these the rest of my life. This is ok because they work perfectly for me and have done so for the last 8 years.
Of course being a person who suffers from anxiety I did some research (to scare myself futher) and found some information linking Paxil to Breast Cancer. Something to do with prolactin. I am post menopause and 55 now.
Dr, can you you explain this study they did in Canada about this, how true it is, and should I quit the Paxil CR, maybe ask my Dr to put me on something else. I started with 12.5 in Feb. and now went to 25. Any info would be appreciated.
I actually came off Tramadol cold turkey with no substitutes and no withdrawals. Paxil is poison. Most people takes years to come off and you will still experience bad withdrawals tapering and adding another substitute. My pain is so bad I am in a fit and have my toes all curled up and clinching my teeth. The withdrawal doesn't last a few days but in general it could be a minimum of 2 months to 5 years depending on dosage and how long it was taken.

Trams do have both an AD quality causing increased seratonin/which is the same action as many popular ADs...zoloft, lexapro, prozac paxil, celexa...but it is an intense immediate effect with trams and these other ADs have to build up over time to help depression...
Surprisingly, I also did not have any withdrawl from the tramadol. I know many people have reported terrible problems with tramadol but that was not my experience.
Also, I have taken paxil (40 mgs), and I think Effexor works much better. You may want to talk to your psych about it. Good luck, and I hope you get some releif from the pain and anxiety. BTW - I tried acupuncture for anxiety and panic attacks and it totally worked.
Today Is the start of taking my life back, I no longer will allow to be a prisoner locked away in a pill bottle. I have missed out on so much the last 2 years because of my addiction to lortab/tramadol. I lost my father to cancer I sat everyday watching him getting weaker and weaker, and right beside him I emotionally did as well.
If any of you read another post of mine about someone asking about the antidepressant effect of tramadol, i stated that tramadols closest chemical relative was Effexor albeit the synthetic opiate component. So combining your Zoloft with high doses of tramadol is probably not a great idea and yes, would great increase your chances of serotonin syndrome. With that in mind you will feel much better starting your Zoloft or increasing it as your are tapering off the tramadol.
Yes, I was addicted to Trams, so much I use to buy them for pain.However, I was able to go without with severe depression until I was able to get more. The doctor would not give me a prescription for pain so I bought them on the streets. I had severe back and leg pain and they refuse to help me with my pain level. So I became depressed, I found out a person can buy them so that is what I did until the lady that sold them to me died of heart failure.
I have been on anxiety meds 13 years, and xanax for the passed 4 along with Paxil, Buspar, and tramadol. I have been wanting to get off of these meds for my own peace of mine to make sure my body was not dependent on them. I weened off of them, but obviously not as slow as I should have. After being off xanax for 8 days I had a Seizure. Very scary I might add. I have never heard of Niacin to help get off Xanax. From my personal and recent experience I recommend doing it under Dr.
Of course, after this Paxil, if it doesn't work, I'm looking at older AD, with a mixture. But I guess add on to Paxil can be done as well. I too am worried about the zombied state. The Cymbalta definetely gave me more energy but then did not help the anxiety. Wish the Dr.'s could figure this out.
OH< I was also diagnosed Monday with Esophagael Spasms, ...my esophagus keeps constricting and my throat won't swallow....
I was addicted to Tramadol for 5 years and went off of it (tapering) and my last pill was Jan 28th. For those of you who have been successful with the recovery, how long did it take to feel "normal"? I still have no motivation and feel really depressed (am on antidepressants). I'm worried that I'll never feel right again. Please give me some advice. THanks for your time!
12 years ago there was a class action lawsuit do to the impossibility of getting off it without withdrawals that actually killed a few people. Please see a good psychiatrist to help you with this. There is a website on Paxil tapering... It may take a year but you have to see a doctor who knows about Paxil and ssri wd, not all drs are knowledgable in this.
That can probably be used with Paxil, but you have to be careful combining it with tranquilizers like Zanax and klonopin and valium. The amino acid taurine makes GABA in the body. You can take inositol but the studies that showed it working for anxiety used a lot! It's just part of the B complex, but be careful you keep up your levels of choline and phostatidyl serine, as they are in balance with inositol.

When I took tramadol, it reacted badly with the Paxil, worsening my anxiety and causing panic attacks. When I looked it up it said that certain anti-depressants and tramadol can have bad interactions like those. Another one is imitrex and paxil. They gave me imitrex when I was hospitalized with migraines and was taking paxil. My heart rate plunged to 33 bpm and my blood pressure went to 170/100.
anyone with a history of addiction might need to steer clear..
I would not worry about what you have taken up to now but would definitely advise getting on the Tram as quickly as possilbe. Tramadol is not familiar enough with doctors to be prescribing it to pregnant women. The fact doctors say it is non habit forming and minimal to no withdrawals should speak volumes to YOU. There is plenty of withdrawals and I speak from first hand experience.
Then Christmas comes I get the flu and boom goes my anxiety so with the New Years thought it might be best to try this switch since everytime I was getting sick I was having to increase paxil dosage. So my schedule to get off paxil and onto lexapro is as follows. I am also taking a 1/2 pill of .5mg Ativan nightly to help me sleep.
Week 1 Paxil 30mg.
Week 2 Paxil 20mg. Lexapro 5mg.
Week 3 Paxil 10mg. Lexapro 10mg.
Week 4 Lexapro 10mg.
