Common Questions and Answers about Toprol xl contraindications

toprol

Avatar m tn Plavix daily and continued with my previous daily medication regimen of 10 mg. Altace, 100 mg. Toprol XL, 20 mg. Zocor, and 2,000 mg. Niacain, and 4grams of fish oil. My cholesterol two weeks ago was 127, with HDL of 31 and LDL of 69 and my blood pressure averages 125/75. Both prior to and after the CABG and Maze procedure I have experienced PVC's but they have never felt like the lone A-Fib epidode I experienced prior to the CABG procedure.
Avatar n tn So does Toprol (metoprolol), which is another beta blocker. I take Toprol XL 50 mg once a day. I also take the antiarrhythmic Rythmol 225 mg twice a day. That combination has kept me out of a-fib for over three years. I was able to stop the Coumadin within six weeks of starting the Rythmol.
443862 tn?1238003039 I actually was found to benefit from Toprol XL (also called Metoprolol Succinate ER). For me, the combo. of my Toprol and my benzo (Ativan/Lorazepam) have proven highly effective in my treatment for my panic disorder and panic attacks. I have never heard of it causing/increasing anxiety....most either get some relief, a lot of relief, or no relief from it for heart problems and panic attacks. I will look into this for you if you want, as to why it is causing your anxiety and panic.
183202 tn?1219857259 The only reason I know I have it is due to my visit with the Dysautonomia specialist. I may switch to Inderal from Toprol XL if my symptoms ever get worse again, and the Toprol XL and Lorazepam alone isn't enough. If you could find a doctor, even a cardiologist or neurologist in your area who is knowledgeable on the field and can get you the proper testing and diagnosis to see if you have dysautonomia, that would be wonderful!!
Avatar n tn I guess from what I've been told that Toprol XL is the next best drug for heart failure. Does anyone here take Toprol XL and has it been shown to decrease the size of your heart?

Avatar n tn I was on amiodarone for 6 months - went out of afib for less than a week but then it became much worse. Same thing happened with digoxin. I've had problems (and found no effect either) with Toprol XL and Metropolol as I frequently have bronchitis. Coreg gave me grief too - I had to start with a very small dose and then take months to increase it.
363243 tn?1331037450 You could respond to a different beta blocker though. I know they started me on Toprol xl and that was the worst nightmare of my life. Not only did it not work for me, it made me have HORRIBLE symptoms on top of what I already have. I take atenolol now which I LOVE. It's like the best sensation to take it and have my heart rate go right down. If its not working talk to your doc about increasing the dosage or changing. Once you find the right amount the beta blockers are a God send.
Avatar f tn She said she wants to take me off Norpace altogether and put me on Toprol if it keeps happening. I have had many medications tried on me over the years. BTW, taking Xanax has no effect on the heart rate ect. because I tried that too for anxiety. My problem is I am to heart aware and feel every single skip ect. This slowing down stuff is the worst though. Worse than anything else I have had to live with for years. It goes on all the time now. No relief.
