Avatar m tn I take Spiriva Respimat (tiotropium bromide) 2.5 mcg/actuation, and Wixela (fluticasone propionate salmeterol inhalation powder) for my COPD. Is there a sequence I should be taking these meds in? Is there a time frame I should use between the two meds?
Avatar n tn Yes, there are. Spiriva® HandiHaler® (tiotropium bromide inhalation powder) is one and Serevent® Inhalation Aerosol (salmeterol xinafoate) another. Each is a bronchodilator and capable of giving good relief of shortness of breath.
Avatar f tn If from the lungs, you could be experiencing Spiriva® HandiHaler® (tiotropium bromide inhalation powder) withdrawal symptoms, depending on what type of lung problem was being treated with the Spiriva® HandiHaler® (tiotropium bromide inhalation powder). These symptoms, along with your arms feeling weak and heavy, could all be due to anxiety, but could also be symptoms of more serious disease of the heart or lungs. For that reason, you do need to see your doctor to sort this out.
Avatar n tn yes, nebulizers can be used on babies, my nephew has used one since he was about 6 months old, only when he gets sick. when he is sick he has a hard time breathing and nebulizers work wonders for opening up the airway. it is perfectly safe to use one on a 9 month old. if you are still concerned you can call your pediatrician or even the on-call doctor. good luck to you! also have you taken the baby to a doctor recently? severe coughing fits could be a sign of a more serious illness or infection.
Avatar n tn This would include a long-acting bronchodilator, such as Serevent® Inhalation Aerosol (salmeterol xinafoate), Foradil® Aerolizer™ (formoterol fumarate inhalation powder) or Spiriva® HandiHaler® (tiotropium bromide inhalation powder) along with an inhaled steroid. Another potentially helpful, oral medicine is called theophylline. Your doctor may also want to prescribe this. You should have your blood oxygen level checked, in case it is low and you would need supplemental oxygen.
Avatar n tn He has been on steroids and all types of treatments including nebulizers, etc. since I can remember. He constantly is sick, cough, pneumonia and I feel helpless. He takes about 10 meds a day! HELP! nothing seems to get him better...
Avatar m tn Measures to relieve these symptoms include adequate hydration, use of analgesics or antipyretics, nasal wash, decongestants, expectorants, antibiotics, nebulizers etc. You need to see a ENT specialist for signs to see whether that infection has spread beyond the nasal sinuses into the bone, brain, or other parts of the skull require emergency care. Hope this helps. Best.
Avatar f tn Spiriva® HandiHaler® (tiotropium bromide inhalation powder) has a maximum duration of action of about 36 hours. To be safe, you would want to be off the medicine for 48 to 72 hours before the spirometry. It would have been preferable, but not mandatory to do the pulmonary function tests (PFTs) at the time the diagnosis of chronic lung disease was made especially if the diagnosis was unequivocal. The other important question would be, “Why 3 CT scans, presumably of your lungs, in 16 months?
Avatar m tn Cause of low DLCO and drop in it from test 1 to test 1? I am currently on tiotropium bromide and salmeterol/fluticasone propionate. My reason for posting this is one doc is pessimistic and the other highly optimistic. Thank you.
Avatar f tn Spiriva contains tiotropium bromide which is an anticholinergic bronchodilator. So, yes, both have action against acetylcholine recptors and both are efefctive bronchodilators. You can take any one of them. Indacaterol is an ultra-long-acting beta-adrenoceptor agonist. So, it gives bronchodialation for a much longer time. It is a more recent drug so long term efficacy data are not available. However, available data does show a marked benefit in individuals with COPD.
Avatar n tn do you find nebulizers help?

Avatar n tn He occasionally has a cough in the morning but nothing at night, and nothing during the rest of the day. He is off the nebulizers for now and is staying on his singulair. Am I missing something w/the dark circles? Any thoughts on why they're not going away?
Avatar n tn Hi Bunny, You're right, this is a fairly common problem on this forum and there are few solutions--some sufferers have even noted that their doctors pretended not to smell it, while flinching. I don't know that it's fungal, but a nebulizer would be the only effective way to get anti-fungal meds into your sinuses. I know that some drugstores have nebulizers, but you'll have to ask a pharmacist about the medicine.
Avatar f tn Yes, children use nebulizers to treat asthma. You should speak to you doctor about this. As for candidiasis, I mentioned above what causes it, so those are things to avoid. Since the children are so young I would look to advice from their doctor as to specific treatment. Some of what I do may not be suitable for them..
Avatar f tn i now have to use an epi pen then go to hospital fro hydrocortazone and anti histermine injectionsand nebulizers and afterwards course of steroids for a week. this reaction is growing more servere with each attack. the symptoms are within minutes of contact with lemon and include tachacardia, vomiting, rash swollen face, numb lips, tingling tongue, metalic taste in mouth, diahoria are there any other people who have this allergic reation to lemons or anyone who understands what causes this.
Avatar f tn gingivitus is not only caused by poor dental hygiene. many respitory diseases involving the use of inhalers and rescue inhalers make your mouth so dry that they cause gingivitus, even if you rinse and spit after taking a dose. i always had decent teth not perfect as i was born before flouride was put into local water supplies, but good and i kept up on them .
Avatar n tn Another one that is commonly used is Mucomyst. I use other nebulizers to help open up my airways such as Xopenex. The coughing might be irritation, I know that I get into some pretty awful coughing fits at times. My airways begin to constrict and I just cough more so the nebulizers work, maybe they will help you. There are steroid inhalers that help with chronic inflammation of the lungs, I am on Flovent right now and have found that it helps my airways as well.
Avatar f tn I wonder if it has gotten so bad that he might need some help with his breathing. Nebulizers will help his COPD but not the breathing problems from his scoliosis. Does he have anything cardiac going on? Maybe a cardiologist along with the pulmo might help....I am just throwing ideas out on the table....I wish I could help more, I pray that your husband gets some relief and answers soon...
Avatar n tn You would be amazed by how much your symptoms could be relieved with aggressive treatment that might include inhalers or nebulizers and even O2. I can tell you from personal experience that I hated the idea of going on O2 and needing those meds to simply breathe. I finally relented and used the O2 faithfully and felt better. My heart did not seem to beat so fast and I didn't feel like dying after going up stairs. Give it a try and see how you feel.
1671791 tn?1303833378 Drinking warm lemonade, hot clear soups and herbal tea may soothe the throat and cough considerably. You will need medications through inhalers/nebulizers or rotacaps for this. Since your mother is a RN, ask her about this and fix up an appointment with a doctor. Take care!
889551 tn?1416184483 Inhalers are very difficult to use on infants and nebulizers are the only effective way to get your little one medicated. I am nurse with a son with pediatric asthma. We've been through it all. I wish you well. If your MD refuses to allow you a nebulizer, find an allergist or another pediatrician.
Avatar n tn This is due to its cardiac side effects which are seen at higher doses and more seen with home use of nebulizers. Hence, one need to be careful with the dosage and should not exceed the recommended dosage. The triggering factors like dust, fog, pollens etc. can cause the precipitation of these symptoms. You need to take measures to avoid exposure to such allergens. You can try sleeping with windows closed, which will avoid exposure to aero-allergen in the morning.
Avatar m tn You can go for nose lavage with warmed isotonic saline at least twice daily with specialized devices, syringes, bottle sprayers, and nebulizers are also effective. After lavage, use petroleum jelly or personal lubricants to lubricate the mucosa. Along with this proper antibiotic therapy is required. I suggest you to consult ENT specialist. Take care and regards.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I started taking 40mg of prednisone at the ER and felt less dizzy, my potassium was 15 really high....I can't figure it out was it the small shiley 6 or potassium? even without the trach I can't exhale when I breathe regularly, but everyone said that was ok but it really bothers me, why don't the inhalers or nebulizers fix that?
Avatar f tn Was there from 8 until 1 am. She was put on nebulizers, just like my son. Shux. I was hoping she would dodge that. So that was scary. So we slept all day yesterday and I missed work of course to take care of her. But the good thing is my last day of work is rentatively April 4th. So I can take GOOD care of my little princess.
Avatar n tn All these albuterol type inhalers make her jittery and quite anxious for about 45mins after she uses them .. nebulizers, too. Sometimes a change in brand of the asthma meds helps ... some have issues with the preservatives and Xopenex works better thru the inhaler which as I understand is in a more pure form . Have they considered Singulair? Just wanted to add my comment on the asthma. I am certain Dr.Lupo will have much to add .. great question.
