Common Questions and Answers about Tiotropium inhaled

spiriva

Avatar n tn Sorry to say, there are no cures, but there are good treatments, especially with inhaled medicine. If you have not already stopped smoking cigarettes, you must stop immediately. Then you should begin respiratory medicine for this condition.
Avatar m tn I take Spiriva Respimat (tiotropium bromide) 2.5 mcg/actuation, and Wixela (fluticasone propionate salmeterol inhalation powder) for my COPD. Is there a sequence I should be taking these meds in? Is there a time frame I should use between the two meds?
Avatar n tn Yes, there are. Spiriva® HandiHaler® (tiotropium bromide inhalation powder) is one and Serevent® Inhalation Aerosol (salmeterol xinafoate) another. Each is a bronchodilator and capable of giving good relief of shortness of breath.
Avatar f tn If from the lungs, you could be experiencing Spiriva® HandiHaler® (tiotropium bromide inhalation powder) withdrawal symptoms, depending on what type of lung problem was being treated with the Spiriva® HandiHaler® (tiotropium bromide inhalation powder). These symptoms, along with your arms feeling weak and heavy, could all be due to anxiety, but could also be symptoms of more serious disease of the heart or lungs. For that reason, you do need to see your doctor to sort this out.
Avatar f tn Spiriva® HandiHaler® (tiotropium bromide inhalation powder) has a maximum duration of action of about 36 hours. To be safe, you would want to be off the medicine for 48 to 72 hours before the spirometry. It would have been preferable, but not mandatory to do the pulmonary function tests (PFTs) at the time the diagnosis of chronic lung disease was made especially if the diagnosis was unequivocal. The other important question would be, “Why 3 CT scans, presumably of your lungs, in 16 months?
Avatar m tn Cause of low DLCO and drop in it from test 1 to test 1? I am currently on tiotropium bromide and salmeterol/fluticasone propionate. My reason for posting this is one doc is pessimistic and the other highly optimistic. Thank you.
Avatar f tn Spiriva contains tiotropium bromide which is an anticholinergic bronchodilator. So, yes, both have action against acetylcholine recptors and both are efefctive bronchodilators. You can take any one of them. Indacaterol is an ultra-long-acting beta-adrenoceptor agonist. So, it gives bronchodialation for a much longer time. It is a more recent drug so long term efficacy data are not available. However, available data does show a marked benefit in individuals with COPD.
Avatar m tn I was making a water pipe and accidentally Inhaled a small amount of ground up glass. I am experiencing little to no trouble breathing. I often become paranoid and imagine trouble breathing and I have asthma. Should I go to the doctor and what should i tell my parents if i do because i cannot tell them about the water pipe.
1170448 tn?1263323427 I would like to know if inhaled steroids have anything to do with weight gain,or if they make it harder to lose weight.
Avatar f tn Because fiberglass breaks across the fiber to form tiny fragments, the tissue response is very different when these particles are inhaled. When fiberglass fragments are inhaled and deposited in the small air sacs of the lung, the alveoli close up and trap the particles. So always wear a dust mask in these areas to help avoid inhaling glass fibers. The damage can be assessed by lung function tests and futher damage can be avoided by avoiding exposure to the same.
Avatar n tn It sounds like you probably need a maintenance inhaler now. If it just a flare, an inhaled steroid could clear you right up and feeling like your self in no time. Feel better. God bless.
Avatar n tn The insult could be infection, immune-mediated inflammation, an inhaled irritant. If you are not feeling anything now - you probably had a previous infection. General advice would include: If you are a smoker - best to quit. If you have an occupation which involves an inhaled substance that may irritate the lung- best to take some precautions.
757137 tn?1347196453 A person using inhaled steroids is safe to be vaccinated. The use of topical or inhaled steroids does not prevent the administration of vaccines. Inhaled steroids have very little systemic absorption. You have already stopped taking the inhaler months back. You can definitely get vaccinated for shingles. Hope you find this information useful. Take care!
Avatar f tn anyone know of a doctor, preferrably in san diego county or southern cali, who isnt married to advair or any of the other inhaled steroids for environmentally caused asthma? do you know of anyone who has had success not using any inhaled steroids? thanks.
6588814 tn?1391015002 I definitely just inhaled a double bacon cheese burger and a large curly fry in like 7 minutes...and it was soooo good!
Avatar f tn This is a selection of articles about the minimal or no benefits associated with a long-term use of inhaled steroids (needless to say, you can also find equally "respectable" articles that say the exact opposite): 1) http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10359405 "Little is known about the long-term efficacy of inhaled corticosteroids in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Avatar n tn t tell they were until this lady literally exhaled the smoke almost in my face as she walked by and I definitely inhaled some second hand smoke -- it was that strong. I literally had to get off the phone and ask them were they serious. I just got a new job and will be expected to take a drug test next week. I normally wouldn't think much of that episode, but am somewhat concerned because I definitely inhaled some of the second hand smoke as they walked by.
Avatar f tn im scared im 15 weeks pregnant with first and i was cleaning my bathtub with bleach and i accidently inhaled to much clorox and i just want to know if by that just one time i could have hurt my baby??? please some1 answer im scared = [ and worried.
Avatar f tn 2 days ago, I was crying while eating. I inhaled, but didn't realise there was still a piece of meat (chicken) in my mouth. I inhaled it, and it got sucked into my throat. Is it possible that, although I didn't really have to cough, it still went to my lungs? Or can it go to your stomach, even if I was inhaling so my windpipe was open? And if it did went to my lungs, how long would it take to get symptoms of the pneumonia I would get? It has now been 2 days. Thanks in advance.
233488 tn?1310693103 Competent Physicians use steroids only when nothing else will do, then use as little for as short of period of time as possible and educate patients on complications. There are millions of people that owe their sight and their lives to steroids (drops, shots, IV, inhaled, pills).
Avatar m tn I may have had some exposure and symptoms similar to yours. Did treatment and/or time heal your problem? This discussion is related to <a href="/posts/Respiratory-Disorders/I-inhaled-Fiberglass-Insulation----Please-Help/show/283781">I inhaled Fiberglass Insulation -- Please Help!</a>.
Avatar n tn So I smoked weed with friend seven days ago.My first time smoking after years. I inhaled like three times but the last drag I was using too much force to inhale and I think the weed was already out. I dont know what substance I inhaled I immediately got insane throat burn and chest back pain including brain numbness until 6 am next morning. I woke up and everything went back to normal. Today, it went back. Not very intense but I can feel it.
Avatar m tn I see that inhaled steroids have been recommended by a doctor. I was taking Advair (an inhaled steroid) and it not only seriously affected my health, but made my lung condition worse. In February the FDA warned against this product saying it should only be used when nothing else helps, and, even then, should only be used short-term. I am now on natural anti-inflammatories and mucolytics (mucus thinners) and I have fewer breathing problems and no side effects.
Avatar f tn The oral dose is roughly 100 times larger than the inhaled does. That changes a little if you are higher levels of Advair, but then the usual oral dose is bigger than my example as well. Factor in that the medicine in Advair is being inhaled and used directly in your lungs, not being digested and spread through your intire body, the amount of steroid that gets into your system is even less than 1/100th the size as with oral steroids.
Avatar n tn A physician visit with a careful history and physical accompanied by a chest xray and simple lung function tests can establish the diagnosis.
