Avatar f tn My 16 year daughter has been suffering from kidney stones for the last 3 years. I was just talking to a friend who mentioned to me that she knew someone who had suffered for many years w/ kidney stones and they determined that his thyroid wasn't functioning properly and they removed it; he hasn't had any problems since. My daughter's thyroid function is also be watched by our family doctor, but totally unrelated to the kidney stones.
3987674 tn?1348933041 Does anyone know if there is a connection between autoimmne thyroid disease and kidney stones? I am really asking to receive assurance. Please don't scare me with scary stories!! Hope someone can help. Thanks. Ali.
Avatar n tn I have been doing reserach on the Parathyroid and have read that there may be a correlation with kindey stones and thyroid issues. Any feedback or websites would be very helpful! Its been a very long frustrating battle and my current doctor does not seem to really understanding my frustrations...
168348 tn?1379357075 I have 2 ovarian cysts (at the moment) and kidney stones (mine, too, stay in the kidney!) and i get very very sick and the pain gets so bad sometimes that all i want to do is sleep to pass the time, but sometimes i can't even sleep. the pain is the worst before menstruation. i'm 15 so it's hard to deal with the pain when i'm trying to do well in school.
Avatar n tn After much begging, my current nephrologist has run more test to check my pituatary thyroid. Is this something that can lead to kidney stones or am I headed down another dead end trail? If this can lead to kidney stones is it something that can be helped? Any words of advice or wisdom are greatly appreciated. Avatar f tn Hi- I suffered from kidney stones this past year, had to have lithroscopy for one and have several small ones left in both kidneys. I had my calcium tested over several months, the levels have come back 10, 10.2 and now 10.6. After this last one, I had my PTH level tested and it was 10. I would assume that I have had high calcium for some time and am producing stones (stone analysis indicated calcium stones).
Avatar f tn Hyperparathyroidism is the number one cause of kidney stones. Every person with a kidney stone should be tested for a problem with their parathyroid glands. Nearly half of all people with kidney stones have a parathyroid tumor in their neck that must be removed or the kidney stones will return.
Avatar f tn Thanks for the reply. I will definitely mention the parathyroid when I have the ultrasound done on Friday. I've actually been to an endocrinologist, urologist and nephrologist and none of them can figure out why I've passed at least 12 kidney stones in the last 4 years and still have "numerous" stones in each kidney. Anytime I mention parathyroid, they all say that couldn't be it since my calcium is normal. I don't know how to get them to investigate it more thoroughly.
Avatar n tn Have it tested when you have your next blood test. Kidney stones could mean too much calcium, and the Vitamin D could make this condition worse. Too much Vitamin D can also cause other kidney problems. Consult with your doctor and have him/her do a full blood panel.
540521 tn?1221699706 Well i am 35 and i have had kidney stones for 7 months now and i cannot pass them, i do know that my father had kidney stones and so did his dad. Is hyperparathyroidism dangerous? I don't know to much about it and wanted to get more info on it.
533063 tn?1262366101 The only correlation I've been able to find (because I developed stones and finally passed my last one February and am STONE FREE YIPPEE - had to get that one in there) is that if you have a Parathyroid issue which produced too much CALCIUM then you are predisposed to develop Calcium Oxalate stones. Have they ck'd your calcium and other minearls, etc. thru 24hr urine and/or bloodwork? It is essential with your history. I, too, had ovarian cysts when I was having hyper #'s vs.
Avatar f tn have polycystic left kidney, 2 kidney stones in right kidney, ovarian cyst, cyst on cervix, stip of endrometriosis in uterus, mild asymmetry pituitary adnoma, solid mass on left lobe of thyroid, and septated cyst on right lobe of thyroid. Nothing has been biopsyed or treated for any of these conditions. What should i do?
Avatar m tn you are talking about the pain you are having after you have passed kidney stones, but for me i think that your system has been compromised from the kidney stones taking their course and you need sometime to heal. As for the yellow bowels movements, that could be bile juices from gallbladder or possibly (not sure) from kidney stones passing. let yourself heal for a while and see how you feel, your body has been through something traumatic and needs time to feel better.
Avatar n tn I had a stone that blocked my kidney and even after blasting would not come out without being scooped out. This was in my left kidney. Kidneys were both checked out thoroughly for damage and other stones - neither of which was found. Questions are...Since it has been two months and I haven't passed any stones are they likely to just stay put? If the larger one gets stuck after I have my surgery will they be able to go in and get it out without cutting me or screwing up the TVT?
Avatar f tn Hi, The most common cause of the same is stones in the kidney. To rule it out the simplest test is to get an ultrasound done and a more sensitive test is a CT scan. They are important to rule out the presence of any obstruction of the urinary tract. I hope that helps. Take care.
696092 tn?1238616767 I have documented gall and kidney stones .. so far not from thyroid but who knows .. more tests now on parathyroids to be certain. I don't think there is connection to the awful gallbladder issues and thyroid and para's but not a doc. Stones, yes there can be. Nasuea .. classic part of gallbladder. BTW, mine should have come out about 10yrs .. I am waiting for the next attack .. so far pretty quiet for 2 yrs with some hints here and there.
620923 tn?1452915648 I have all the above EXCEPT kidney stones (at least I have never been told I have stones). I also have high cholesterol.
Avatar f tn t seem to figure out what was causing it, my mom chimed in and MADE them check for kidney stones and lo and behold, that was it!!! So don't let your docs tell you that they're not going to check for kidney stones or that you can't have them just becuase you don't have the "typical" back pain for them. It can and does happen. Blood in the urine can be one of the symptoms of a kidney stone also, but again, does not have to happen.
Avatar m tn Urologic surgeons perform PNL through a small incision in the back and into the kidney, using an instrument called a nephroscope to break up and extract the stones. Urologists attempt to remove all the stone fragments through the nephroscope during the procedure, leaving none to pass through the urinary tract. Patients usually stay in the hospital for one to two days following PNL, with additional recovery time lasting one to two weeks.
Avatar n tn Ah, ha! This sounds like parathyroid disease, easily remedied by a simple surgery to take out the bad gland. Your calcium, though some labs will say is normal, is high. Good calcium should average in the nines. Mine is a steady 9.6. PTH should be below 65. Mine averages 30-32 from week to week.
Avatar n tn I had a Radioactive Iodine treatment 19 years ago which killed my thyroid, and I had been taking Levothyroxine ever since, until 9/09 when I had kidney stones and a bad kidney infection and was in the hospital in intensive care for a week and off all medication. Since then, my T3 and T4 levels have been all messed up and my Dr. has been trying every combination to get me balanced since then, but has not yet got my system right yet.
604876 tn?1220088644 I've recently had 11 kidney stones, one 8 mm and the others about 4 mm. Urine and blood studies were done and my calcium level was normal, but my PTH level was 108. Can you have primary hyperparathyroidism if the calcium level is normal, or is that level indicative of secondary? I had a scan yesterday and am awaiting the results. I'm hoping it's primary, because it seems this is easily fixed with the removal of the glands. Thank you.
