My first thought is to cover the area I lie on with some sort of covering that separates me from the carpet. I am told the air near the ground will still be the problem, however.
My other idea was to use a HEPA air purifier and even wear a surgical face mask during sleep to avoid these components from the carpet.
Any thoughts on these methods or others that may be helpful or is there really no choice but to use a bed -- giving me a few feet of distance?

i'd definitely throw away the carpet, what is the value of a carpet vs such a damaging illness like hcv, hiv or others
i guess
hcv might survive a couple of weeks but dont know exactly,
hiv very weak so i'd say days if not hours
but hbv (it is one of the strongest) can stay there weeks/months
So my cat has been pooping in the litter box with the same litter inside all of her life. Now she is deciding to poop in the hallway, away from her litter box. I will put her in front of the litter box, and even put her in the litter box (well shove her in is more like it) and she'll just pop out and run away from it and continue to defecate on the said carpet. She'd poop on the old carpet and now is pooping on the new carpet that has been put in a few weeks ago.
As long as he keeps smeling amonia on the carpet, his own, he will think that it is OK to use that as the toilet. Get some Bitter Apple as I've heard it is good cat repellent, and spread some vinegar on the carpet, too. If it doesn't work and it gets worse, you're going to have to start thinking on getting another carpet.
Deanna, I also have a vomitter (sp? lol) and usually on the carpet. Or stand right on the edge of the kitchen linoleum and vomit on the carpet. I too, have to make sure Jade doesn't get too hungry, otherwise she wolfs her food and vomits. Does your girl tend to do this more in the morning after not eating all night?
She drank a lot of water and ate about a cup of her food and has licked the carpet and tried to eat other things (i.e. a bookmark) a few times. She has been doing this constantly and goes between laying down and pacing around the living room. Her breaths seems very shallow. Also, several times she has seemed like she is trying to throw up but nothing comes out. If she was truly vomiting, then something would have to be coming up because we know she has food and water in her stomach.
My son did something similar at age 6. I even caught him urinating in the trash can in the garage at age 10. I wonder if it isn't some sort of sense of adventure. When my son urinated on the carpet in his room, she let me know that her son did the same thing behind the couch at about the same age. He is now a well adjusted adult. also after I came home I was walking on the carpet with the same slippers and later walked bare foot on the same carpet and my dog also walked on the same carpet and jumped on the bed. Is it possible I contaminated the carpets the bed with the hiv fluid from the bottom of my sleeper when I walked in.

My 15 year old male tabby is licking fur off his belly and hind legs. I tried orange bitters, but he would just throw up all over the place....I'm wondering if the new carpet in my apt is the culprit. Or the new cat tree a friend gave me. It was well aired out it had been in storage for over a year, and I shampooed it with cat shampoo and let it dry. Could this be the cause? He is a indoor cat, no flees, no redness or sores were he licks either. I have been in this apt for 5 months now.
So I'm throwing up almost everyday my moms says its allergies but it started in winter and my only allergy is pollin so the throw up is stuff like normal just small but it's getting bigger like the one where u must stop get a trash can or toilet and be there for a while someone help idk what's happening.
been dealing with the same thing for a long time. I believe there carpet beetles. When there in the larvae stage they eat your hair follicles. I've tried to seek treatment multiple times including today because there also in my cat. Everytime I tell people because I'm a large muscler male they tell me it's scabies which it's not because I haven't gone around anyone because I too have had to shave my head and Beard.
ALL kinds of litter boxes but she still will poop on the carpet most of the time. Once in awhile she will use her litter box to poop. There is nothing wrong with her medically & she is a very loved cat that gets lots of attention & pets. She gets along very well with my 2 male cats that I have as well. I have more than 1 litter box in my home. My 2 male cats have no problem using the litter box heck 1 of them I call my little Mr.
