Common Questions and Answers about Why do cats throw up on carpet

throwing-up

Avatar f tn So my cat has been pooping in the litter box with the same litter inside all of her life. Now she is deciding to poop in the hallway, away from her litter box. I will put her in front of the litter box, and even put her in the litter box (well shove her in is more like it) and she'll just pop out and run away from it and continue to defecate on the said carpet. She'd poop on the old carpet and now is pooping on the new carpet that has been put in a few weeks ago.
Avatar f tn I have a long-haired, soon-to-be 7-year-old cat. She throws up a lot. Sometimes it's a hairball but generally it's just vomit. I've learned to keep her a little bit hungry but not so much that she eats too fast when she eats again as both of these extremes cause her to get sick more. I know cats throw up but she seems to do it more than other cats I've had. She's laid back and doesn't seem psychologically damaged. Any ideas?
Avatar n tn My 15 year old male tabby is licking fur off his belly and hind legs. I tried orange bitters, but he would just throw up all over the place....I'm wondering if the new carpet in my apt is the culprit. Or the new cat tree a friend gave me. It was well aired out it had been in storage for over a year, and I shampooed it with cat shampoo and let it dry. Could this be the cause? He is a indoor cat, no flees, no redness or sores were he licks either. I have been in this apt for 5 months now.
1672333 tn?1416694918 I wouldn't need the "soft paws" as she is not wrecking things with her front claws because she was declawed before I adopted her.(Or would you use it them for other reasons?) She is trying to eat the carpet.. she picks it with her teeth. The carpet is like a shag type. that cheap stuff that they put in apartments that when you put your chair down for a month and move it, it takes weeks for the in-dent to go away..gets flattened when its in a high traffic area... cheap!
Avatar m tn Is it possible for cats to get a sort of rug burn? This cat loves to claw the carpet and pull herself forward. I joke that its her mode of transportation. Could it be that she's rubbing her arms against the carpet too much? Creating a type of rug burn or just hair loss?
599170 tn?1300973893 LOL...they do look cute lounging on it don't they, he-he! They do love it and I sometimes sprinkle a little catnip on the scratching surface. I think my husband said we got it at Petsmart but that was a couple of years ago...they may still carry them.
362249 tn?1441315018 I posted a ? about 3 mos ago on the cats forum about hypoallergenic cats and the leader over there suggested I can buy some fur online to "test" the allergies in my house .. I cannot recall the name but I've also heard it's the dander .. some cats are ok and others are not -- it can be the dander and certain breeds are predisposed to creating the allergic element while others don't have it . There's a name for it. Sorry, but cannot recall that either.
725941 tn?1297882209 Hi everyone! I'm looking for some advice ASAP. I have a 1 month old baby and my cat has started acting out. I really don't want to get rid of her but she's peeing on the couch and hubby is not impressed. First she started pooping on the carpet in the living room, now it's moved on to urinating. The pooping I could deal with but the urinating is a big problem. Also.....what to do to get the urine smell from our microsuede sectional? Thanks in advance for your help!
372328 tn?1214776427 Problem is, you moved the box! She isn't used to going to the basement just to potty--very big life change for a cat. Actually, moving a litter box is a touchy thing. It's best to put the new litter box in place and leave the old one for a while. Maybe move a bit of litter from the old to the new. Maybe confine her to the basement so she has to use the new one (but be careful; she may find another spot if you do that).
1232362 tn?1333135406 s on the floor and the cat is expressionless (and you who have cats know darn well they have expressions!) This cracks me up everytime!! We have a cat named Bob and when he was a kitten he was relentless pestering my fiance for his dinner (my fiance's dinner) so finally Bob got locked in the bathroom where he made a racket until there was an ominous silence.....you got it. toilet paper everywhere.
473796 tn?1238293442 t be so sure that the flea problem is completely eradicated yet. Fleas on our pets lay eggs that fall off into the carpet, on to furniture, etc. These eggs will take 1-10 days to hatch out to larval stages that feed on organic debris in the environment. After another 5-9 days, the larva spin a cocoon and then another 5-10 days passes and adult fleas are ready to emerge into the environment. They can also stay in the cocoon for up to 5 months.
1232362 tn?1333135406 Sounds like your cats like to throw late night parties. How many do you have? How old are they? Is this behavior something new or has it always been this way?
Avatar m tn Somebody in my apartment has a habit of dropping pills on the carpet including opioid analgesics like Vicodin, muscle relaxants, anti-anxiety pills, etc. and I'm worried that my cats may eat them by accident and get sick or die. Although most of these pills probably don't taste that good, I think a cat may swallow a pill that has gotten stuck to his tongue by accident because he cannot spit it out. Please let me know if this is something I should worry about.
Avatar f tn a Vet visit is always a good idea to rule out issues like possible obstruction, but I will say I’ve occasionally seen the same with my own cats...they do tend to gobble dry food up much too fast and vomit it back up..try feeding just a few kibble at a time or eliminating all together..
Avatar f tn My female cat has been doing this for many years. My male cats have never done this thank god. No matter what I use on the carpet she will still do it. It's not a problem with her food, shes very happy with the food she eats. She never gets any people food either. When she does actually use her litter box she's never in any pain. I have taken her to the vet more times than I can count & they keep telling me that there is nothing wrong with her.
203342 tn?1328737207 But I made the mistake of putting a blanket on the floor for her to lay on and she peed on that. I had actually put both cats in the laundry room since I was watching a little girl today and didn't want her messing with the cats. My husband thinks she's peeing only around the other cat because the other cat stresses her out. What do you think of that? I'm almost afraid of letting her out again.
Avatar f tn There are things you can spray on the carpet that are supposed to be repellent. I have read that a natural orange oil spray will do the trick. I also think you need to re-evaluate your definition of mean. Cats just like to be close to you, especially if you're gone a lot, that means they are often underfoot tripping you up, I highly doubt that is a malicious act. All of this is just natural energetic kitty behavior.
Avatar f tn Found an untreated log and had it cut so there was a flat side. I set the log flat side down on a stepping stone so it would not lay on carpet. She was very curious at first. I found her laying next to it, guess she felt she was outdoors, lol. It took her about two weeks to start using it but she goes to town on it now. It totally wore down her nails and she is not getting stuck any longer. I hope this can help someone else having this issue. IT WORKS!
1320140 tn?1277986208 I can only suggest that you take her to be examined by a different vet. Cats are known to throw up every once in awhile but not like what you are describing. I think you definitely need a second opinion.
427258 tn?1266445242 ) the fleas to death and also is a great way to deoderize your carpet but you may need to vacuum your carpet 2-3 times before you get it all up (depending on how much you sprinkle on the carpet) unfortunatly im not sure what to tell you to put on your cats because my mum-inlaw to her animals with her and i havent owned any cats since i was a kid but i do use drops for my dog and flea powder as well!
Avatar f tn After the birth of our first child our older cat has gotten jealous and started peeing and pooping on the carpet. And now with our second baby's birth just around the corner from feel so helpless. I can't put up with her never using the litter box and hust peeing on the carpet and clothes. I've found a no kill animal shelter not too far from my town and think its time that they go. Lord knows I love them but I can't do it anymore...
5835213 tn?1375136151 My dog throws up often. She gets fed three times a day (40 lb dog, eats a total of about 1.5-2 cups per day). She's at what the vet called her "ideal weight" and she gets rave reviews on her health at her checkups. She has fantastic temperament and has regular stool (solid stool 80% or more of the time, goes every day, sometimes more than once) I'm just not sure what to do!
203342 tn?1328737207 Oh april...this can/is such a hard issue to solve, I've been struggle too with my male...he pee's on visitors stuff like suitcases etc. and of course bedding. so the spare room door has to be closed all the time! not easy with my 10 yo grandson here for the summer but were managing. I found out last year he has FLUTD...crystals in his urine, which I am trying to treat with a homemade diet that has alot more moisture...am I winning?...
Avatar f tn im ready to throw them out im gettin a puppy instead idk why ppl say cats are smart these cats arent there hard headed and stupid.
423002 tn?1211645982 It is made like out of cardboard...but my cats scratch on that all the time. As soon as they get up they go straight to it. I got new furnature about 3 months ago, and nothing! I have caught my terror thinking about it, but I just put him on his SuperScratcher, and he starts clawiing The box is purple, walmart usually has them..I think 10.00, but WELL WORTH IT!
541196 tn?1293552936 Use different substrates including newspaper, clumpable and nonclumpable litter, sand, sawdust (not cedar), carpet remnants, and no litter at all. Use unscented litter, since many cats do not like the scented kind. If you find the substrate that your cat prefers is not the one you do, e.g., carpet remnants, try slowly converting the cat back to litter.
675347 tn?1365460645 I have seen cats eat grass too. The dog I had before always threw up after he ate grass. Like you said (margypops) he would eat it when it was getting close to mealtime, when his stomach was empty. Then he'd throw up just the grass and a little mucus. Yet because he was very healthy all of his life, I thought it was just his way of 'cleaning out his stomach', to get rid of that little bit of mucus. I never thought it might be because he felt nauseous because he was hungry.
