Avatar f tn Looks like your symptoms of sore throat and runny nose have progressed with resultant addition of cough and sputum. It could have started as a cold and progressed to a throat infection. This if left untreated could progress to tonsillitis. The commonest pathogen (agent) causing throat infections is a group A Streptococcus bacteria. Besides this Group B Streptococcus, mycoplasma, neisseria and cornybacterium are known to cause throat infections.
Avatar n tn Yes, OlmetecĀ® (olmesartan) can cause cough but it sounds like you are being treated for a respiratory infection with an antibiotic and additional medicines to thin your mucus. If that is so, cough can sometimes last for weeks after an infection and, if a person has asthma, cough can last for months after an infection. You should consider trying a cough suppressant medicine, one that contains either codeine or dextromethorphan.
Avatar n tn It sounds like you may have an ear infection. Also, if you have a sinus infection that would cause throat pain and coughing. Is there swelling on the side of your neck where it hurts? The best thing to do is see your Dr. He/ she can tell you if an infection is going on and why your still coughing. I hope you feel better soon. Take care.

Avatar m tn Hello and hope you are doing well. The other causes for long term cough besides asthma are GERD and post nasal drip from allergies. GERD is gastro esophageal reflux disease where the stomach acids come back into the esophagus and spill into the wind pipe causing cough. Treatment with antacids will help neutralize the acids. Post nasal drips can occur with sinusitis and throat infections. Giving up cigarettes will abolish smoker's cough in 90% of people.
Avatar m tn Exposure to allergens causes a runny nose with a resultant post nasal drip where secretions from the nose go backward into the throat and irritate causing cough. Cough is a protective mechanism by the body as it helps to prevent infections. You will need to consult your primary care physician for proper clinical assessment. In the meantime for relief from your symptoms you could do warm salt gargles and take OTC antihistamines. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Avatar f tn This excess mucus leads to congestion, cough and sore throat and earache due to pressure on the tympanic membrane. This sore throat is called pharyngitis. It usually occurs when viruses (or sometimes bacteria) from a cold, flu, or sinus infection involve the throat. The treatment depends on the underlying cause. Viral infections are managed with warm salt water gargles, pain relievers like aspirin., and fluids.Rest adequately and do not smoke.
Avatar f tn It was preceded by sore throat and persistent cough (dry cough). The mucus sometimes looks green in color. Took some antibiotics and cough syrup too, but didn't work out.
Avatar f tn The symptoms described could be due to a throat infection, most probably streptococcal or a viral infection. Strep sore throat needs to be treated with an antibiotic as strep is a bacteria. Viral sore throat is best treated with rest, warm oral fluids and (OTC) tylenol (acetaminophen) or ibuprofen for pain.
Avatar f tn They said I had a throat infection, not strep and post nasal drip going down the back of my throat. They gave me a prescrition for Augmentin, and Magic Mouth mouthwash which numbs my mouth for all about 5 minutes. I have since developed a terrible chronic cough and have been eating throat drops, cough drops and couph syrup like crazy. My voice is still squeaky and my nose is still running though not as much.
Avatar n tn I had what seemed to be a tickle in my throth. The next day I had a sore throat and every time I cleared my nose and throat I there was this thick brown mucus. Avatar n tn Last night I started taking some leftover penicillin I had for tonsilitis and it seems to be helping bring the swelling down and i`m starting to cough out and blow out of my nose alot of infection. My neck hurst so much though, it is so stiff and everytime i get up or cough or bend over i get searing pain in the back of my head. what is going on?
Avatar m tn The reason I say post nasal drip is because it is usually more noticeable at night and you usually cough more at night. Good luck and if you need anything else please post!
Avatar n tn The cough began to change into a choking cough where i feel like i am choking and it is hard to catch my breath. I feel very weak and tired. Not much mucuos, a small amount but it is clear. I then went to a different GP who examined my chest, throat etc and said it all seemed fine. She put me on Erythrocin for one week, I am currently on my third day of taking it. I still feel the same. Today i have a very sore pain in my back between my shoulder blades and lower, also slight pains in my chest.
Avatar m tn I went to Doctor and got Warticon to fix the wart. Probably a month after I got throat infection. Went to doctor again and been told that it will go away on its own. Then I got very bad cough. Funny thing is I didnt cold which I usually get when I have sore throat. Then soon I started coughing alot and alot. Went to doctor again but been told again that it will go away on its own as it was viral infection.
Avatar m tn The other causes needed to be ruled out are airway malacia, laryngotracheobronchitis and infection with Chlamydia trachomatis. If there is presence of sputum with cough then we can suspect the infection. You need to undergo certain tests like allergen test, spirometry, and serological test for Chlamydia. Treatment includes cough suppressants, a trial therapy with bronchodilators, avoiding triggering factors.
