Many oral contraceptives contain chemical compounds that are designed to simulate
the effects of natural hormones in
the body. By acting
on the endocrine system, these compounds can drastically decrease a woman's chance of getting pregnant. Drospirenone is one example of these types of synthetic hormones. While Drospirenone is effective as a means of birth control, it has also been found to increase a woman's risk of blood clots, stroke, and associated cardiovascular problems.
