119341 tn?1232563757 ScienceDaily (Feb. 29, 2008) — Thalidomide, a drug blamed in the 1950s for causing birth defects, is now showing promise as a safe and effective treatment for women with recurrent ovarian cancer, according to a study led by a University of Minnesota Cancer Center researcher. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Levi Downs, Jr., M.D.
167426 tn?1254086235 ” The study compared the effectiveness and safety of the combination of thalidomide and topotecan, a chemotherapy often used for ovarian cancer, versus topotecan alone for treatment of recurrent epithelial ovarian cancer in patients who had received prior treatment. Epithelial ovarian cancer is a disease in which cancer cells form in the tissue that covers the ovary.

667829 tn?1297978123 Hello, I wanted to know if anyone on the forum had / has been on cholesterol drugs (statins, mine was crestor) while pregnant or before pregnancy was confirmed with tests. If there were any complications with the pregnancy because of the statins etc.... Currently I'm ttc, so stopped the cholesterol drugs and switched the bp drugs to safer class.
Avatar f tn Someone said that Topotecan worked better when combined with thalidomide -- don't know much more about it than that, although when I have chemo again (when the Arimidex doesn't hold my counts steady anymore) they are threatening me with topotecan next.

Avatar f tn When I was nauseated early in pregnancy, I didn't know about zofran, I took (OTC) motion sickness tablets, and b-vitamin supplements and both methods helped. When I saw those ads about the lawsuits I was happy I hadn't taken zofran.
Avatar f tn Hi, Prurigo nodularis is very hard to treat, but current therapies include steroids, vitamins, cryosurgery, thalidomide and UVB light. A physician may administer a strong dose of prednisone, which will almost immediately stop the itch/scratch cycle. However, cessation of steroids allows relapse to occur, usually within a few weeks.
Avatar f tn Thalidomide was also the most common morning sickness medicine in the 1950's have you read up about that?
Avatar n tn I have been treated with several meds, including, but not limited to Iodine drops, Thalidomide, Prednisone, and topical steroids. I am now on 10 mg of Prednisone. I have been on that dosage for 6 years now, and the medication is not treating my body very nicely with weakened joints that ache, bad bruising on my arms and legs, weight gain, and a host of other problems that go with the steroid use. One of the best things for the E/N is the application of a topical steroid, Lydex cream.
Avatar f tn From a midwife point of view- a baby was only ever counted as full term at 37 weeks when they used to count you as being pregnant from the day of conception. These days the pregnancy count starts from the first day of your last period, this adds 2 weeks to your pregnancy. Hence full term is 39 weeks. However the longer the baby is in the better. 40 weeks is considered the right amount of time in most countries.

Avatar m tn Ribavirin is also a teratogen in some animals species and thus poses a theoretical reproductive risk in humans, remaining a hazard as long as the drug is present, which can be as long as 6 months after a course of the drug has ended. It has nothing to do with the menstrual cycle. It has to do with how the presence of ribavirin in the body can impact the development of the baby.
20922415 tn?1661860103 If pregnancy occurs, progesterone is produced in the placenta, and levels remain elevated throughout the pregnancy. The combination of high estrogen and progesterone levels suppresses further ovulation during pregnancy. Progesterone also encourages the growth of milk-producing glands in the breast during pregnancy. High progesterone levels are believed to be partly responsible for symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), such as breast tenderness, feeling bloated, and mood swings.
