Teriparatide (Forteo) is also approved for the treatment of postmenopausal women who have severe osteoporosis and are considered at high risk for fractures. The medicine is given through daily shots underneath the skin and you can give these shots even at home. Another advantage is that it can be given in patients who cannot tolerate oral biphosphonate drugs.
I saw the breast cancer question posted by a member here mention she was taking Bonista, the medication for Osteoporosis. As far as I have researched, the only serious risk known for the teriparatide is bone cancer, not breast cancer. Hope this helps!
As for myself, I am a patient suffering from severe osteoporosis. My doctor, realizing I cannot afford Forteo ($950 per month!), has suggested I try to find how I can take the equivalent, generic version, which is Bonista.

i haven t yet studied all drugs for osteoporosis but i think they do work today although they are weak and that supplements are needed too because bisphosphonate build up bone density but not bone quality.
Generally this is used for the immune system -- it is found in highest amounts in colostrum, the first part of our immune building found in breast milk. It is used for other things, sometimes for iron, but still mostly for building the proper bacterial foundation for a strong immune system. Don't see how it will build bone.

I'm 62 Fem. with T score -3.5. My doctor is putting me on Actonel but I am reluctant to start. Side effects are very worrisome... not sure what to do. I have started mega doses of supplements and calcium and D and excercise and I want someone to tell me that that has worked for them.
I expect she is Anxious about it all aswell does she get out and is she as busy as she can be as she has a lot of pain ,it could make her feel very fedup, and that makes it worse.Does she have exercises to do for the Osteoporosis, I think they reccomend some to strenghthen her . My husband has had osteoporosis for 7 years being diagnosed @ age 55. It is quite severe and Fosomax , calcium and Vit D has not helped. What could be causing the continual decline of his bone health? No doctor ever addresses the underlying problem , if there is one.
I have never seen any literature stating that neupogen can add to osteoporosis. In addtion there does not seem to be any reason that it would cause osteoporosis. You should have the bone density scan as always, but would not fear the neupogen.
Early results seem to be very promising. At the very least, taking an osteoporosis drug will treat your osteoporosis. If there is an added benefit - even better! Thinking of you.
Assuming this did not occur from a fall or other traumatic injury, then it is likely related to overuse. I have personally evaluated patients for osteoporosis with prior overuse pelvic fractures who ultimately had normal bone density on their DXA scan. Stress fractures themselves are not indicative of osteoporosis. Fragility fractures-- which include a fracture of the hip, pelvis, wrist, spine, or shoulder sustained during a fall from standing height-- are concerning for osteoporosis.
