Avatar n tn I am a 25 year old female. I was diagnosed with a primary brain tumor in June 2008 and underwent surgery to remove it. It was the size of an apple and diagnosed a grade 2 tumor. It grew back in September 2008 and that's when i began rigorous radiation and oral chemotherapy (Temozolomide). My recent MRI has showed the regrowth of the tumor to be "gone." The plan is to take the Temozolomide for 2 years along with Accutane (which helps the oral chemotherapy work better).
Avatar f tn has anyone with stage 4 ovarian cancer ever been on "avastin" for there chemo treatments, and what side effects have your had ?
120574 tn?1240767840 Hi there... I am on Avastin and Cytoxan (Avastin - 10mg/kilogram of bodyweight and Cytoxan 50mg pill daily). It's been well tolerated so far...no real issues. My hair hasn't fallen out or even thinned really, and my blood pressure has remained pretty good. I find I'm really tired for a couple days following my Avastin infusion, but the Cytoxan pill hasn't bothered me at all. I had a CT scan on Monday and will get the results next Monday - April 7th.
187666 tn?1331173345 I found out this morning that one of my friends is now on Avastin. However, her protein levels have risen which is an indicator of kidney problems. What they're trying to figure out now is which came first - did the Avastin cause kidney disfunction or are her kidneys malfunctioning on their own and she can't continue on the Avastin? Has anyone on this chemo had this problem?
Avatar m tn , matthew farber, has moved me from laser surgery to injections of avastin. my insurance says that avastin is not an approved treatment and has denied any payments. is avastin fda approved for my disease?? is dr.farber's treatment the recommended treatment?? how can i fight my insurance company on this issue??
Avatar n tn 1) Carbo/Taxol + Avastin after 2nd treatment, with maintenance Avastin for extended period afterwards 2) Carbo/Taxol + Avastin after 2nd treatment, with placebo for extended period 3) Carbo/Taxol + placebo after 2nd treatment, with placebo for extended period So the patient has a 66% chance of getting Avastin during the initial treatments and a 33% chance of getting it during the maintenance period. The trial is double-blind so neither your mom nor her doctors will know which arm she is on.
503808 tn?1210373170 Has anyone had experience with Carboplatin/Gemcitabine/Bevacizumab (Avastin).
540822 tn?1313086322 The problem is that there have been insurance issues with using Avastin for treatment. Apparently, Avastin is FDA approved for colon cancer and insurance will cover it. If used for ovarian, breast or other cancers then it is not FDA approved and insurance SOMETIMES will not cover it. This treatment is approx. $17,000.00 per round.
Avatar f tn Recently diagnosed with stage IIIc ovarina cancer and my doctor wants to try Avastin with my chemotherapy as part of clinical trial. This would start with my initial treatments and to be honest I don't know what would be best. Is this a good course of treatment to start with or should I stay with what is known to be?
176401 tn?1339369307 I had not known that Avastin could cause the cancer to return more aggressively. Having been on Avastin myself, I wish I had been aware before using it.
Avatar f tn My mother was diagnosed over a year ago - complete hysterectomy followed by 6 rounds of CarboPlat and Taxol. Ca-125 went down to 14 started maintenance chemo of Taxol only that did not work Ca-125 began to slowly rise recurrence. We did 4 rounds of Doxil Ca-125's still rose then the doctor incorporated Avastin. This was the first break where my mom's CA-125 went down. My mom had two rounds of the Doxil and Avastin.
414018 tn?1268611672 so if you had to have second line treatment would you have chemo plus avastin? i have heard good things about this drug but am worried about side affects. also the cost. any loop holes to get it covered?
Avatar n tn WHEN YOU START TREATMENT ASK ABOUT AVASTIN. I'm no doctor, but it worked (briefly) for my mother. It is being accepted more and more as an OVCA treatment. This spring my mother had to join an NIH study to get it; this fall her Oncologist get Medicare to pay for it. It seems very promising. My mother seems to be at the end of a 3.5 year fight with Ovarian Cancer. However, before she got there she entered an NIH study on the effects of Avastin on ovarian cancer. The results were mixed.
607284 tn?1224793302 I have had 3 surgeries for a detache retina. The first with scleral buckle and gas bubble, the second with silicone, and the third to remove the silicone and handle a cataract. The last one was just bofre Thanksgiving. Last week, I has some laser doen, I think for the cataract, and also had an injection of Avastin to my retina. Can you explain the use of the Avastin? I can't find much online, and the Dr.
Avatar m tn Genentech is the mfg for Avastin https://www.genentechaccesssolutions.com/avastin/patient/index.jsp The company provides financial help since Avastin is not approved for ovarian cancer.
Avatar m tn If the carbo/taxol didn't help you and the avastin didn't help then the avastin/abraxane combo probably isn't the right one as abraxane is yet another variation on the taxol theme --- Good luck with the Gemzar -- when mine gets out of control again (i'm not in remission but am taking arimidex for a while to give me a chemo break) they are trying Topotecan most likely --- I hope the Gemzar works for you and thanks for posting the info about the avastin -- I've been waiting for
282804 tn?1236833591 Avastin is often used with another chemo drug. My friend is on avastin, doxil and carboplatin. another is on avastin and carbo. and the third i am not sure. perhaps your doctor could look into the multi leg some studies show ovca does best when hit by more than one angle. good luck having not used it can't tell you the effects.
Avatar f tn I have been on Avastin by itself every three weeks now for over 11 months and my CA125 continues to simply fluctuate in the 300s - 500s. When I started Avastin my CA 125 was in the mid 700s. For all intensive puroses this has benn a pretty good year since Avastin is so very tolerable. I feel fortunate to be a 6 year survivor of stage 4 dx in 2002 but of course you always worry - "whats next" Can the Avastin continue to keep my disease stable and for how much longer,Is there any data?
414018 tn?1268611672 Hi ladies, please forgive me as this treatment part and chemo is all new to me, i realise i have a lot of research to get through, but just wanted to get in touch with anyone on Phenoxodiol? or OVATURE? AVASTIN- was the main one my specialist was talking about saying it would be expensive but that i could use it as part of my chemo cycles?
Avatar f tn I am ovarian cancer stage 4. I have had 1 treatment of "AVASTIN" and getting ready to start my second treatment tomorrow. Can anyone else on the treatment tell my of any side effect they have had from this, and did you have success in reducing your CA125.
120574 tn?1240767840 Can anyone tell me what type of side effects you had with Avastin. Did you take it alone, or with a chemo drug?
120574 tn?1240767840 However, since her CA-125 was creeping back up, her gynecologic oncologist advised her to switch to a more aggressive treatment so she is now on carbo+taxol+avastin (she tried one treatment of carbo+gemzar+avastin but the gemzar was really hard on her white counts and platelets). Although avastin is sometimes used as a single agent it is more often combined with other forms of chemo and is usually more effective when used that way.
627206 tn?1250145971 Hey i read your post and my mom was also stage 3 and platnum resistant to the same drugs. She also just started doxil and gemzar. I mentioned avastin to the ONC as my mom is suffering from a tremendous amount of ascities that cannot be drained. He shot that idea down. Good luck to both our moms. Hope it works out!
