Avatar n tn I am a 25 year old female. I was diagnosed with a primary brain tumor in June 2008 and underwent surgery to remove it. It was the size of an apple and diagnosed a grade 2 tumor. It grew back in September 2008 and that's when i began rigorous radiation and oral chemotherapy (Temozolomide). My recent MRI has showed the regrowth of the tumor to be "gone." The plan is to take the Temozolomide for 2 years along with Accutane (which helps the oral chemotherapy work better).
Avatar f tn i am a 38 yr old female just diagnosed with a tectal glioma, grade 2 astrocytoma 10mm. I am having a hard time finding info on this. The neuro-oncologist says its rare for an adult to have a tectal glioma. Does anyone have any knowledge on this.
Avatar f tn I did some research... "Located at the back of the midbrain, these are usually solid, focal, slow-growing tumors with a gradual onset of symptoms" is the definition of a tectal glioma. A glioma itself is: "Glioma” is a general term used to describe any tumor that arises from the supportive (“gluey”) tissue of the brain. This tissue, called “glia,” helps to keep the neurons in place and functioning well.
Avatar f tn Hi recently my brother was diagnosed with cystic pontine glioma (2.5x2cm) with minimal hemorrhage in ventricles.he lives in INDIA.Doctors said that is inoperable and there are no tretments available. Now he is having lefthand and leg weakness and facial nerve palsy .can uplease suggest me the available treatment options and prognosis of the disease.thank u.
Avatar f tn I'm looking to meet others with (or have loved ones with) a tectal glioma. My daughter,3, has this type of tumor. As patients tend to be on the "watch and wait" with regular MRI's, I am interested to know what amount of tumor growth is acceptable until it becomes something that requires treatment.
Avatar m tn How serious is a glioma? or also how serious is a primary brain tumor? The neurologists/neurosurgeons havent figured out whats in my brainstem and theyre guessin it may be there but theye not 100% sure. Should I be worried about either one? its 1.2 cm x1.9 cm, thats not big right?
929511 tn?1244287052 , findings are most like of glioma and in left optic nerve they are sugestive of optic neuritis but it shoul be solves out due to treatment given in last three months, 3rd MRI comments, it seems to like optic tumour, patient is too old for glioma so findings are most likely of neuroma,, my question to you is, what shoul i do??
Avatar f tn No appreciable enhancement on the postcontrast T1 weighted images. Findings are worrisome for tectal glioma measuring 1.9 cm(craniocaudad) by 0.7 cm (AP) by 1.0 cm (transverse). This finding is best shown on axial images 8-15. Other considerations include a PNET, ganglioglioma, ependymoma, or primary pineal tumor. There is associated abnormal increased T2 and FLAIR signal extending into the posterior thalami and down along the Brainstem into the deep posterior pontine white matter.
Avatar m tn On the other hand i have find by mri newly (1 month back) that i have a tectal glioma.Regarding tectal glioma i have no symptomes yet (tectal glioma is brain tumor at midbrain) Doctors advice to watch and see.I feel not lucky at all to have both tumors.I hear about gamma knife on youtube that it will treat brain tumors. If some one too have gone with successful tectal glioma resection please share your story here to give me more hope. Thanks for your care of posting.
Avatar f tn I have recently been told that I may have a capillary telangiectasia in my left superior pons. I’m very concerned about it being low-grade glioma due to the differential diagnosis my radiologist gave. My neurologist, along with his 3 other collegues, seem to strongly think that it is the capillary telangiectasia. I’ve been having chronic daily headaches that are sometimes to painful I can’t live my daily life.
Avatar f tn 39 yrs old rt handed male pt was diagnosed as low grade glioma (?astrcytoma) as MRI.what could be the complication afer removing it succesfully.
Avatar n tn 9 year old girl is diagnosed 1.5 years ago with the brain stem glioma (originally pontine, but now it's medullary as well). She received 4 sessions of chemo and radiation treatment. It appeares that the treatment stopped the tumor growth, but due to its location was deemed to be non-operable by the local medical staff and she was discharged from the hospital. Yesterday she collapsed and was taken to an ICU, but now she is feeling better.
723288 tn?1230778799 I am the mother of a three year old son who has a tectal glioma and secondary hydrocephalus. He has been given a ten to twenty year prognosis. His doctors have told me that this type of tumor is slow growing and generally does not start to really grow and cause problems until puberty. Once the hormones kick it they tend to jump start this type of tumor. His doctors have also told me that when this happens its not good. Is this really the norm for this type of tumor.
17531552 tn?1457548605 Does Maitake Mushrooms and IP6 Vitamins really works in case of Tectal Glioma????
Avatar m tn Do you have other information, such as the size or the lesion, the health otherwise... I would read up, try to find a doctor experienced in the treatment, and get your kids to that doctor. Kids tend to be more resilient and if they are otherwise healthy, tend to heal well. Get copies of everything. There is a doctor forum here as well.
Avatar n tn I am a 31 year old female recently diagnosed with a tectal glioma. I am told that the hydrocephalus is only mild right now and the growth appears to be slow. I have only had 1 MRI and have not had any of my burning questions answered. How long can I live with this? What symptoms should I truly worry about? How do I manage my headaches? How do I keep from being depressed? What made this appear? What will likely accelerate it's growth? How can I slow it's growth?
Avatar f tn But when she was diagnosed she was/ had Stage 4 Cancer : Is Brain Cancer hereditary? I am not going to worry about this until I have the results, but would like clarification in regards to this.
Avatar n tn Hi, I am a 41 year old female with a "benign" Insula Glioma. It is 9+centimeters by 3+. It cannot be operated on(or I am not willing to take the risk associated with.) I saw the neurosurgeon yesterday and he says I am 100% neurologically fine (I disagree and I'm trying to find a neurologist who can see me before the end of June.) My question is- I have had a headache for more than a month, it lead to finding the tumor.
808425 tn?1371092328 If this is a low grade glioma, would it have grown significantly in a month? Or, Question 5: Is it more likely a high grade glioma that will require radiation and chemo? Okay, I think that's about it. Please, somebody help. Because he doesn't have insurance, my brother is in a county facility, and we feel like we are waiting too long. I know county hospitals are overwhelmed, so I don't blame them, but I/we need answers!
Avatar n tn Hi, Posterior headache and neck pain with increasing severity may be due to cerebellar tumor(eg-glioma),blood vessels abnormality like aneurysm of vertebral or basilar artery, complete loss of blood supply to some part of cerebellum or upper cervical vertebral diseases.MRI is the ideal investigation in your case.Till that you can use tab paracetamol 500 mg ,maximum 6 times a day.
