Temodar and avastin

Common Questions and Answers about Temodar and avastin

temodar

Avatar f tn Now the tumor has recurred a third time and they are trying Temodar again. What other treatment options would you consider at this point?
1515784 tn?1387197290 She had a surgical resection near the end of November and is currently in her third week of Proton Therapy and chemo with Temodar. Her tumor was in the right temporal lobe and the remaining tumor they couldn't remove (about 10 percent they said) is on her right insula. Hoping to chat with other people in the same boat as her. What if any side effects did you incur on Proton therapy? Did everyone who had proton therapy to their brain have to be on a steroid? Did anyone NOT lose hair.
Avatar f tn I had two Avastin injections in 2012 for a CNV caused by myopic degeneration. The first one must have broken a blood vessel in the white part of the eye (not serious but very ugly). I think I remember putting a Kleenex next to my eye and getting blood on it.

Avatar f tn After that, I was on a clinical trial of topotekan and oxiliplatin and that stopped working after 41/2 months. So now I will soon be starting Avastin and cytoxan. If anyone has any knowledge about these drugs or any info about anything else that is working for them, I would appreciate the info.
120574 tn?1240767840 This was depressing, since just started to have some hair again. Anyone on Avastin and Cytoxan have hair loss?
523728 tn?1264621521 I started having really bad headaches and asked the chemo nurse about it one day. She said that the Avastin would cause that but to also check my BP the next time I got one. I am glad she told me that as when I did it was 160/112. They immediately started me on BP meds. When the time came for my next chemo, my Dr said no way and sent me straight to the ER. When I got there my BP was a whopping 203/118. Talk about being scared.
Avatar f tn Do not know what combination with Avastin your daughter is taking but I have heard that nosebleeds are a part of Avastin.. I took carbo taxol and was constantly tired and the usual problem is low red blood cells.. I had several blood transfusions and then felt much better... She should talk with her oncologist on her platalet count and red blood cells... chemo is tough.. I am twice your daughters age and it took me almost a year to feel like normal again... my last chemo was 14 months ago..
Avatar f tn A month ago my husband (41) had a tumor resection of a GBM in the left temporal/frontal lobe. He is still recovering from surgery and has begun cancer treatment (temodar& radiation) a week ago. He has a previous accident injury where he has struggled with neck pain for ten years. He has been on suboxone for probably 7 years now. He is currently taking his suboxone but is not getting any relief for his head pain.
Avatar f tn I am tired and much more so after my Avastin infusion. That seems to resolve after a couple of days. I know my blood pressure has gotten higher, but I'm told that's quite common. I am planning to have 4 treatments, then a CT scan to see if it's working. I have to be careful because it's costing me and my family nearly $6000 a treatment, out of pocket. It will be a mixed blessing I guess, if it does work! Good luck...
120574 tn?1240767840 Since I am on a combo, I recieve treatment once a week for 3 weeks and then have a week off. I recieve avastin/abraxane on weeks 1 and 3 and abraxane alone on week 2.
120574 tn?1240767840 Hi there... I am on Avastin and Cytoxan (Avastin - 10mg/kilogram of bodyweight and Cytoxan 50mg pill daily). It's been well tolerated so far...no real issues. My hair hasn't fallen out or even thinned really, and my blood pressure has remained pretty good. I find I'm really tired for a couple days following my Avastin infusion, but the Cytoxan pill hasn't bothered me at all. I had a CT scan on Monday and will get the results next Monday - April 7th.
187666 tn?1331173345 I'm in the clinical trial, don't know if I'm getting Avastin or placebo but have had kidney complications. Ureteral stents seemed to solve them for now.
Avatar m tn , matthew farber, has moved me from laser surgery to injections of avastin. my insurance says that avastin is not an approved treatment and has denied any payments. is avastin fda approved for my disease?? is dr.farber's treatment the recommended treatment?? how can i fight my insurance company on this issue??
Avatar n tn My mom is currently in a clinical trial at Duke University for Avastin. It is a Phase III trial - so it is the final trial for the drug. I've seen several posts talking about the terrible side effects of Avastin. Can anyone fill me in on these? I've read all the data and have spoken to the people at Duke in charge of the trial and so far, I've not seen anything that is really terrible.
503808 tn?1210373170 Studies have shown that avastin is more successful when paired with a chemo. Just heard a gyn/oncologist speak and he really emphasized that avastin and other targeted therapists are our best hope for now.
540822 tn?1313086322 My doctor made a special request to the insurance company with documentation showing how they are using Avastin for ovca and working. They approved it. I have been on Avastin and Cytoxan only right now, and it is working....so far....
Avatar f tn Your situation doesn't sound any different than mine, except you had slighly longer remissions -- even the same string of drugs in the same order -- had a CT scan yesterday to see if the Topo is doing anything as my CA125 hasn't dropped by much -- if not working will be switching to Avastin too -- I'm going to ask him to do both the Avastin and cytoxin as everyone here seems to have had better luck with that then Avastin alone -- also heard from everyone on this board that there are
Avatar f tn The current clinical trials that compare avastin with taxol and carbo versus taxol and carbo alone are very important. avastin is a breathtakingly expensive drug. Many institutions and insurers cannot afford avastin off of a clinical trial. It will be good to hopefully get solid evidence from the current clinical trials in favor of avastin. Then we can strongly advocate for this drug off trial. There is an interesting New York times article that summarizes this dilemma http://www.nytimes.
Avatar f tn Hi Jane, I've been on Avastin for 8 months, the 1st 4 with IV/IP cisplatin and taxol and the last 4 just Avastin. I'll get Avastin for 7 more months. So far so good - NED. Side effects from each of the three drugs are a little hard to separate but some I am certain are from the Avastin: 1. High blood pressure. This is common with Avastin (and isn't a SE of the other 2 drugs I was on). It took about 3 months but then my always good pressure shot up to 160/100 or higher.
176401 tn?1339369307 however, in May it shot up to 1100 and I felt I could not wait any longer so I started chemo again June 1 with carbo, taxol and avastin. (first recurrence since my diagnosis in 2006) I enrolled in GOG 213 and am getting the avastin. My scan on June 30 showed that the areas had disappeared and my ca125 is now 14.5. I am concerned that some patients on avastin find their cancer returns much more aggressively.
Avatar f tn My mom had two rounds of the Doxil and Avastin. Just this past Friday the doctor said there was a problem (with no further explanation) with the Avastin and we went back to only Doxil. My concern is that the Doxil did not work before. My mother's blood pressure was not up so I do not understand what other reason he would have taken her off when it seemed to be working. Any thoughts???
Avatar n tn WHEN YOU START TREATMENT ASK ABOUT AVASTIN. I'm no doctor, but it worked (briefly) for my mother. It is being accepted more and more as an OVCA treatment. This spring my mother had to join an NIH study to get it; this fall her Oncologist get Medicare to pay for it. It seems very promising. My mother seems to be at the end of a 3.5 year fight with Ovarian Cancer. However, before she got there she entered an NIH study on the effects of Avastin on ovarian cancer. The results were mixed.
