Avatar f tn In a 79 year old obese female patient presenting early cirrhosis (shown in MRI and CT imaging studies for several years prior) with malnutrition secondary to chemotherapy (patient's weight had decreased from 235 lbs. to 170 lbs. over the course of 1 year), Patient had a bout of dehydration 18 days prior to the date in question which required I.V. electrolytes.
1084115 tn?1385228589 Cirrhotic patients with tuberculosis have significantly lower completion of Rifamipicin + Isoniazid based ATT, higher hepatotoxicity, and higher mortality. Recommended ATT in Child class A cirrhosis is the same as a noncirrhotic population but strict followup is required. Pyrazinamide may be avoided. In Child class B Pyrazinamide should be avoided, Isoniazid with rifamipicin may be avoided. Isoniazid or rifamipicin with ethambutol and quinolone can be used for 12 to 18 months.
Avatar f tn Choanal and esophageal atresia of fetus in MMI-treated and maternal hepatotoxicity in PTU-treated pregnancies are of utmost concern. Maintaining free thyroxine concentration in the upper one-third of each trimester-specific reference interval denotes success of therapy. MMI is the mainstay of the treatment of post partum hyperthyroidism, in particular during lactation." http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21389085 IIRC about 30% of women have thyroid enlargement during pregnancy.
179856 tn?1333547362 Inhibition of mevalonic acid synthesis leading to centrizonal hepatocellular necrosis is thought to be the mechanism responsible for statin hepatotoxicity and can be prevented by mevalonate supplements in animal studies. However, in human studies, statins can also cause mild elevation in liver enzymes without clinically significant liver damage (Hepatology 2005;41:690–695). Pfeffer et al, in the prospective pravastatin pooling project, observed that 0.
Avatar f tn (normal range of AST being 10-35, ALT being 6-40, on my particular lab slip) When my AST went to 398 and ALT went to 500 I thought that jump may have been an indicator that my liver was really inflamed, so I went to a Doctor who treats specializes in treating Hep C, and she agreed with me, and ordered a biopsy, and then we went from those more accurate results. There are 100 different reasons that a persons enzymes may be elevated, besides Hep C, by the way.
11062655 tn?1414987783 Hello Everyone, I was wondering if anyone had used Tamiflu with liver disease? The side effects sound pretty harsh on the liver. My doctor gave me 75 mgs. to be taken twice a day for 5 days. I have stage 2 and 3 scarring. I don't want to speed up the damage by taking a liver killing drug. Thank you.

Avatar m tn Hey I was recently sufferin from a bad cough and I was prescribed piriton cs. By mistake I took a single dose of 25 mg chlorpheniramine maleate and also 500 mg paracetamol along with it. I've been having a slight pain in my upper right abdomen ever since. Is this a sign of possible liver damage? Is it possible to damage liver at the above dose? Thanks in advance. I would really appreciate your input.
Avatar m tn A starting dose of 25 mg should be considered in patients with any degree of hepatic impairment [see Dosage and Administration (2.5) and Clinical Pharmacology (12.3)]. http://www.drugs.com/pro/viagra.
Avatar m tn I was told by my doctor not to drink any alcohol while on the medication and I have followed her instructions to the T with out one drop of alcohol in my system for the entire time I have been on the pills. I will be taking my last pill next week (July 20th) and I am wondering at which point will it be safe to drink alcohol again. Since beginning the pills I have graduated college, passed my registry, and found a job and I have been planning a late celebration for after I finish the pills.
Avatar m tn I've been taking subutec for 6 years and wanted to know if it affects any of the hepatitus's in a positive or especially in a negative way?
Avatar m tn We were both very surprised and scared of each other. I immediately poured whiskey all over my penis and even in the hole at the tip (yes, very painful). I proceeded to take a shower. Now, it has been about 19 hours and I picked up some pills at a local pharmacy. I was hoping to get the PEP (28 day set), but they gave me 2 doses of both truvada and stocrin 600 mg. Will this be sufficient?
Avatar m tn No uniform pattern of hepatotoxicity has been identified and severity may range from asymptomatic elevations of serum liver enzymes to hepatic failure and death. Exact estimates on how frequent adverse hepatic reactions occur as a result of DSs cannot be provided. Liver injury from DSs mimicking other liver diseases is increasingly recognized.
Avatar m tn Older women with liver disease seem to be particularly susceptible to the hepatotoxicity of NSAIDs and are advised to avoid NSAIDs altogether. Since NSAIDs may cause salt and water retention people with fluid retention problems such as ascites or leg swelling may suffer worsening of these conditions. People with decompensated cirrhosis are at increased risk kidney damage stemming from the use of NSAIDs.
