250701 tn?1320974765 The Incivek prescribing informations lists clarithromycin, erythromycin and telithromycin as antibacterials that can cause drug interaction. "Concentrations of both telaprevir and the antibacterial may be increased during co-administration. Caution is warranted and clinical monitoring is recommended when co-administered with telaprevir. QT interval prolongation and Torsade de Pointes have been reported with clarithromycin and erythromycin.
Avatar f tn When an antibiotic is deemed necessary, Zithromax (azithromycin) is commonly used. Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic that is effective against M pneumonia. But, if the sinusitis is caused by a fungus or virus azithromycin will not help. In some cases, sinusitis can last for several weeks before it resolves. If the symptoms persist for longer than a few weeks your physician may refer you to an ear, nose, and throat specialist.
Avatar f tn Erythromycin is a macrolide...that's usually what is given to people who have penicillin or sulfa drug allergies.
Avatar m tn genitallum infection resistant to Azythromycin ( macrolide family) where treated with Josamycin (also a macrolide) with a 94% cure rate. Could you resolve your case?
Avatar f tn Yes as thru my own experience I have history of bad arrhythmia all these years and cos of possible Long QT syndrome, I am not allowed to take too much of this antibiotic from the macrolide group for fear of prolonging the QT more on ECG. This will give rise to a deadly cardiac rhythm called Torsades de pointes which I had few years ago.
Avatar f tn Some include tetracycline, macrolide and fluoroquinolone. You need to check with your doctor about this to prevent antibiotic resistant bacteria from building up, ahixh is unlikely though. 2) First treat the bacteria. And i think what you are experiencing is mostly anxiety, which is very common in some patients.
Avatar m tn The standard treatments for NGU are either a tetracycline antibiotic, usually doxycycline; or a macrolide antibiotic, usually azithromycin. Feel free to post a comment after you have been seen at the GUM clinic. Until then I won't have anything more to say.
Avatar n tn The z pak is Azithromycin that is a macrolide-type antibiotic and is used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections by stopping the growth of bacteria. Azithromycin will not work for viral infections such as the common cold or flu. If you have been prescribed with this antibiotic by your doctor, it is likely that you were prescribed this medication because the doctor was of the opinion that you have a chest infection or a upper respiratory tract infection, or both.
Avatar m tn Without further DNA testing, I doubt you will know what type of ureaplasma was detected. The drug of choice for ureaplasma infections is a macrolide antibiotic. The best choice being azithromycin. Doxycycline is less effective, but if it's helping, that's good news. If you continue to have problems, ask your doctor about treatment with a macrolide such as azithromycine or erythromycin.
Avatar f tn The interaction has also been reported in patients receiving atorvastatin, lovastatin, or simvastatin with other potent CYP450 3A4 inhibitors such as azole antifungal agents, macrolide antibiotics, HIV protease inhibitors, and nefazodone. Clinically, high levels of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitory activity in plasma may be associated with an increased risk of musculoskeletal toxicity.
Avatar f tn Chlamydia has never shown resistence to the macrolide antibiotics such as azithromycin nor the tetracylines such as doxycycline. Clindamycin has no effectiveness for treating Chlamydia. Cipro is iffy for both Chlamydia and Enterococcus infections. Ask your Doctor to be sure that the Enterococcus is not a resistent strain , as this is becoming more of a problem, especially here in the US. I hope you are well soon. Take care.
Avatar f tn It is from the same class of antibiotics ( macrolide antibiotic) as Azithromycin, and could possibly target Chlamydia Trachomatis better with more bacteriocidal activity. When taking antibiotics, it is advisable to also take some quality probiotics, in order to replenish your healthy gut flora, which gets damaged by the antibiotics. Getting some supplements to boost your immune system as SassyLassie suggested is a very good idea as well.
Avatar m tn Azithromycin is a macrolide and doxycycline is a tretracycline. Different chemical make up, different mode of action, different drugs. When one has an infection, a doctor will start with a drug commonly used in that area.
Avatar m tn Due to the risk of life-threatening and fatal toxicity, patients with renal or hepatic impairment should not be given colchicine in combination with potent CYP450 3A4 inhibitors such as itraconazole, ketoconazole, voriconazole, nefazodone, delavirdine, protease inhibitors, and ketolide and certain macrolide antibiotics. In patients with normal renal and hepatic function, the dosage of colchicine should be reduced when used with potent CYP450 3A4 inhibitors or within 14 days of using them.
Avatar f tn Amoxicillin is a penicillin-type antibiotic and clarithromycin is a macrolide-type antibiotic. They work by stopping the growth of bacteria. The antibiotics in this product treat only bacterial infections. I can understand why your mom is skeptical but this is a very serious condition that must be addressed right away. If left untreated serious life threatening conditions can develop. As with any medications prescription or OTC she should always consult her hepatologist before taking them.

Avatar n tn m suffering from low grade fever for almost a year now, sometimes i got sorethroat and my doctor gave me macrolide to treat it. Its alarming me now cause aside from low grade fever I'm also losing some hair that i think is not normal. Avatar m tn Regarding your current status, the macrolide antibiotic you took would be expected to have some activity against gonorrhea but, at the same time it is not recommended because cure rates are not greater than the 95% cure rate standard we use for recommending gonorrhea therapy. Putting all of this together, I doubt that you have gonorrhea and based on the information you have provided, I really don’t think there is much to be gained by testing at this time.
Avatar n tn Interesting question. In the scientific community, it has been known for quite a few years that some antibiotics appear to have anti inflammatory and immune-modifying qualities in addition to their antimicrobial function. This has been most evident with antibiotics in the 'macrolide' class (things like erythromycin), and doctors do use these drugs 'off-label' in this way.
Avatar m tn Yes the macrolide family of antibiotics can give you an increased risk of having arrhythmias including vt and torsades vt. While it usually affects only those with heart disease it can affect anyone and is one of the side effects listed of these antibiotics. If you are bothered by caffeine, antihistamines etc. I would avoid these antiobiotics. They are especially bad when mixed with other heart stimulating drugs. Make sure you mention this to your doctor.
Avatar f tn 2) Clarithromycin (Biaxin) probably would cure syphilis or prevent it from taking hold. Strains of syphilis with resistance to that class of antibiotics (the macrolide group) are increasing in frequency and no data have been reported from that part of the world, but probably it's not a problem. 3) The chancre of syphilis usually is a painless sore that takes 3-4 weeks to heal. 4) VDRL detects active syphilis. But it often becomes negative after several years, even without treatment.
