Tekturna generics

Common Questions and Answers about Tekturna generics

tekturna

Avatar n tn t smoke, do exercise, am thin). My doctor put me on a diuretic, Tekturna and Bystolic, and within a week I had completely lost my sense of taste! Anyone else experienced this? I'm wondering if it's a side effect that will wear off if I just stick it out. The combination seems to be working well to lower my bp and hr but I'm losing weight (a bad thing) and really, really miss food!
574118 tn?1305135284 I would say that 95% of the time generic will work the same for people as brand, but that other 5% of the time someone will have a bad reaction due to: a) other compounds in the generic that are not active ingredients are not good for them b) placebo effect c) poor production quality in some way So, I think just like everything it is a case by case basis.
Avatar n tn no its better not to take it.
Avatar n tn Many generics have differnet levels of the active ingredients and different kinds of fillers. I learned this the hard way when I was prescribed my first thyroid medicine. I have to take the generic becasue the namebrand sends into a manic hyper state even at low doses but the generic works beautifully for .me. Call your doc and have him write on the prescription to only fill with wellbutrin. You might want to go back to your original pharmacy so you can it.
Avatar m tn My question is this, will I be alright on generics as long as I make sure I continue getting the Mylan brand Levothyroxine? I have been searching the internet for opinions and have seen them go both ways. It would be comforting to hear some positive experiences with generics. I could ask for Synthroid, but I'm not quite sure what it would cost with no proper health insurance, and the more money I can save for visits, testing, etc.. the better.
Avatar f tn If you're on a generic, yes, many people do find that generics are often less effective than brand names and some generic manufacturers are better than others. Others don't notice these things. Generics are not identical to brand name drugs, they are similar enough to work pretty much the same but our bodies differ and might not absorb the generic as well.
Avatar f tn Actually, the above answer is not entirely true. While, by law, a generic has to contain the same dosage of the active ingredient, it isn't QUITE as simple as that. There are a lot more factors that go into generics vs. brands (like its pharmacokinetic profile and bioequivalence (BE) and bioavailability (BA).....but it's a tad more complicated than is appropriate for this forum) There has been a VERY long lived debate about the efficacy of generic vs brand name meds.
Avatar f tn The only difference between the brand name and the generics are the fillers and binders used in the pills, since they all use the same active ingredient - levothyroxine. Most people don't have an issue with the generics, but there are a few that have reactions to the fillers/binders - that can happen with Synthroid, as well. I actually did better on generics than I did on Synthroid. It's your choice as to whether or not to switch to an endo...
Avatar m tn When a patent for a brand name drug expires, pharmaceutical company can make a generic form of the drug. Effexor patent expired in 2006, since then several generics are available. Those generics are usually cheaper but they must contain the same active ingredient(s), the same dosage form, at the same dose or concentration, and for the same route of administration. The generics are usually cheaper and can use different inactive ingredients and preservatives which can sometimes cause trouble.
Avatar m tn 80, today is still the only drug to cure hbv there are many formulas, interferon alpha is genric today because the oldest, peginterferon is also about to become generic because also this type is old, i believe it was approved around 2000 interferon is very expensive but generics are available in india and vietnam which are much cheaper.
Avatar n tn Actually, both of those are generics for the brand names Loestrin and Microgestin. Generics all have their own names but from a chemical standpoint, the active ingredients are identical to the name brand. Where Junel and Blisovi differ is just in the inactive ingredients.
Avatar m tn tenofovir is the oldest drug among hbv drug since we share the same drugs as hiv, it is the most potent and generics are on the market.
Avatar n tn Lisinpril can cause a chronic cough and you should stop this medication to see how the cough changes. It may be replaced with valsartan or candesartan which do not usually cause this side effect. The verapamil usually does not cause this side effect. This may not be related to your medications, and chronic cough or ' bronchial asthma' may actually be cardiac in nature ( e.g. CHF). Make sure your physician takes this other consideration into account.
177275 tn?1511755244 In a prime example of government bumbling they have made it difficult to get generic drugs through the approval process also while allowing pharmaceutical companies to unfairly and monopolistically raise the price of generics and brand names through the ceiling. Generic drugs that are not difficult to make and require no research that used to cost $4 at Walmart not cost $85.
Avatar m tn Is dea pushing generics
Avatar f tn Ive learned that generics are not exacly the same as the brand . They are allowed to have different fillers etc. Up to 20 % diierence from main ingredients. I take generic adderall IR. My pharmacy usually gives me generic by corepharma. Just once had (or gave it to me cause of my complaints) generic by another manufacturer where I didnt have all the side affects and worked much better. I found out its more exspensive so pharmacy doesnt have it often.
Avatar n tn t want to start an argument about whether or not generics are equivalent, I just have not responded well to the generics and have made the personal decision to not cut corners when it comes to my health, period. If I must pay that monthly, I may have to bite the bullet and say fine, but I've read of people who swear by filling only brand name xanax or klonopin or valium and their insurance covers it or they only pay about $50, much more reasonable.
685562 tn?1447155231 Sometimes you have to be a little careful with generics. I had issues and became quite ill when I switched from Toprol XL to a generic. All issues resolved after discontinuing the generic. FDA did find some substandard practices with the company manufacturing the generic. This is what I found after some research: FDA regulations require generics to have the same active ingredients, be bioequivalent, and have a high purity.
Avatar n tn Have had similar results with generics manufactured overseas quality control might be the reason you are having issues good product bad batch. If you can get a prescription in the states cialis has a 30 day for free offer so you can try it out.
Avatar n tn Your free thyroxine (FT4) is in the normal range according to my lab's range (0.6 to 2.0 - you should verify yours since normal is different at different labs). It's in the low end, but still normal. Do you have any idea what the trend is from your previous labs? Is FT4 rising, lowering, staying put? Most endos don't like generics. Their argument is that generics are not as consistent as brand names, and the actual dose can vary by as much as 10-15%.
486038 tn?1300063367 If this may help you in the future, I found this site called Medtipster and it converts name brands to generics then will locate a pharmacy near you where you can get them for low cost. I think generics work the same anyway, they have the same composition, just different ways of manufacturing.
