Avatar n tn did she have lung and rain cancer to or just lung ? my doc said no to tarceva cause it spred to brain i was wondering maybe was this the same as your mom?
Avatar n tn My dad was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer (non small cell) back in July. He has been through several chemo and radiation treatments and is now starting on Tarceva. It has been a long road so far and he has his good days and bad days. I don't think there's any way even the doctors can tell us how much time they have left specifically. His doctor said it could be a year, 5 or even 10, but of course we are all hoping and praying for at least 20 more with him.
Avatar f tn Hello I am a caretaker. My client was diagnose with lung cancer stage IV. It has already spread to the spine, both lungs and the lymph system. Avatar n tn Asians, women, non-smokers, and those with adenocarcinoma histology. This drug still has been found to benefit males, smokers, and those with squamous cell histology, but to a lesser extent.
Avatar f tn Hi There... I have had a upper right lobectomy on Sept 14 2001.Stage 1A BAC lung cancer...no chemo or no radiation..clear margins and no lymph node involvement.. ..it's been a little over five years now. cancer free. PRAISE GOD...and thou I realize that 5 yrs is maybe the magic number for most lung cancer survivor's...is it also meant for BAC Lung Cancer...I have heard not so.... Thank you for any information you can give me....
Avatar n tn His left lung was removed and now he received 4 rounds of chemotherapy. The lymph nodes on the left side of the lung were effected and removed. He is receiving cisplatin and taxotere as his treatment. His brain scan, abdominal organs all were clear at the time of the diagnosis. Yesterday he had an abdominal ultrasound (not due to any complaints) which showed a 15 milimeter 'something" in the liver.
365470 tn?1232747095 Hi all just want to keep you posted , my husband started on the drug Tarceva since his lung cancer is in operable this is supposed to dry up the blood flow to the tumor so it will shrink, so just praying that it does and all goes well, then he will have chemo, the oncologist said no to radiation.
Avatar n tn We asked about radiation/chemo/surgery and she said this was not a option. But I read on here about others who had Lung cancer that went to the Adrenal Gland and brain etc. and they had surgery or radiation? Also do you know of a Doctor up here near Buffalo New York other than Roswell Hospital that we could go for a second opinion.? Thanks for your help!
Avatar f tn My mom has been diagnosed with Stage 3b/4 nsclc and will begin radiation and chemo immediately. She also has pleural effusion and the doctors are taking out the chest tube and inserting a catheter. I am hopeful to shrink the cancer enough to get her airways unblocked and she can leave the hospital. I keep getting the feeling the doctors don't want to tell me how bad this is. I myself am preparing for the worse, but i would like to know what your opinion is.
Avatar f tn Edema (fluid accumulation in any body part, resulting in swelling) has been reported as an adverse event in 37% of pancreatic cancer patients taking Tarceva, although this side effect has not been reported in lung cancer cases. However, the type of edema associated with Tarceva use is either generalized or involves a swelling of both legs. Swelling in only one leg may not be due to this drug. Unilateral leg swelling may be due to a local infection (cellulitis) in that area.
Avatar n tn m doing research as quickly as I can to help she and her husband make an informed decision about what to do...if anything. The local drs are recommending 4 weeks of full brain radiation followed by tarceva. Prior to the finding the mets, they were planning 6 weeks of radiation to the right lung in combination with etoposide and cisplatin. I'd appreciate any feedback. My thanks in advance to all responses....
Avatar f tn I SO appreciate all of the advice! Well, I should come clean with something...last Sept I was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. Inoperable, i was given 6 months to a year to live... with treatment. I've THANKFULLY made it past a year. i guess the LAST thing i should be worried about is my weight, right? The pain i get daily is from my chemo medicine, Tarceva. Along with some other side effects. Losing my hair was bad enough but putting on 20lbs killed me!
Avatar f tn In lung cancer, there are assays for quantitative testing of epidermal growth factor receptors (EGFR), which confers sensitivity to some drugs used in lung cancer like Iressa or Tarceva. The cost of testing can range from a few hundred dollars (e.g. ER/ PR assays) to around 3800 dollars for the Oncotype DX test.
Avatar n tn my 83 year old aunt was dx with stage IV Lung CA 2 months ago, it was seen on CT back in May and we have been told it has doubled in size in the past 6 months. She is not a candidate for treatment and is refusing even palliative tx such as Tarceva. PET Scan showed no evidence of cancer in brain, liver or bone. Because she is experiencing no symptoms she is hesistant to participate in a home hospice program.
Avatar m tn inoperable; no relevant mutations. He had undergone radiation to lung and several rounds of chemo (Carboplatin, Taxotere, Cisplatin, Gemzar). He also had surgery to remove one brain met (January 2014) and one kidney (May 2014)… CT scan in December showed no mets outside lung and lymph nodes…. He started Tarceva this January but it seems it did not work as the cancer spread to brain….
Avatar n tn In 2005, he had Tarceva. In 2008 they discovered metastasis to the liver (3 lesions) and he underwent chemo again (I think Avastin) and he finished the treatment in March. The doctor said the tumors in both the lungs and liver were smaller. For the past 3 weeks he´s been vomiting, but sporadically. There is no pattern. It doesn´t matter if he eats lightly or heavily. Some days he vomits once, some days nothing. He went to see a Gastroenterologist. They did a sonogram...
Avatar n tn t so sure, he was asking questions about the lung cancer. He is 83 and for the most part doing well and feeling well. Will they do chemo on him if it is the lung cancer spreading to the lymph nodes? If it is in both lymph nodes under both armpits then is it spread throughout his body? What is the outlook here? I'm flying down to Florida to go back to the oncologist with him and I would like to know what questions to ask. How bad is the process?
Avatar f tn For patients with inoperable disease, prognosis is adversely affected by poor performance status and weight loss of more than 10%. Prognostic factors in small-cell lung cancer include performance status, gender, stage of disease, and involvement of the central nervous system or liver at the time of diagnosis. For non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC), prognosis is generally poor. Following complete surgical resection of stage IA disease, five-year survival is 67%.
Avatar n tn Have you come across any cases of rashes caused by Tarceva and further treatment? Or do you have any recommendations for what to do? My next dermatology appointment is not until September but I feel like there should be something more my team should be doing.
Avatar n tn hi my husband has just started on Tarceva also.....dont understand thou why they are not doing radiation, he has one lung and the oncologist said that radiation does not responsd well to SCLC squamous cell, hang in there, I know its card.
365470 tn?1232747095 he has one lung, which was removed 3 years ago, this has come back as a secondary cancer, they have started him on Tarceva and then chemo, but the oncologist said no radiation, as this type of cancer does not respond well to radiation. But thats not what I am seeing on the net, the mass has encased the veins of the aorta.
Avatar n tn My mother was diagnozed with nscl cancer stage 4 with 1 lung collapsed and cancer was found in back bone also, docters started geftinib and the results were amazing...she seems a normal person now but complains of weakness only, from inside i am always worried . how much time she have( in months) ? will she be a normal person again ? should we tell her?...
4461995 tn?1357955108 I just found out this morning that a dear friend was just diagnosed with Lung Cancer that has metastasized to her brain. She just found out and it is Stage 4. She has started radiation but doesn't know about chemo yet. Does anyone have any words of advice for me as to the best way to be supportive? I live in NJ, she is in CA and I am going to go out there to stay with her for a while soon. She is single.
Avatar f tn My mom is 69 and has just been diagnosed with stage 4 non small cell lung cancer. We were expecting this, but it's still very hard. She has it in her left lung, on the mediastinum and on her right adrenal gland. We will hopefully be seeing the oncologist next week. We don't know how long she has, but outcomes don't look good, mean life expectancy of 8 months. This is hard to believe!
