But thats not what I am seeing on the net, the mass has encased the veins of the aorta.
Avatar n tn Asians, women, non-smokers, and those with adenocarcinoma histology. This drug still has been found to benefit males, smokers, and those with squamous cell histology, but to a lesser extent.

Avatar n tn Survival for squamous cell carcinoma is better than that for large cell carcinoma and small cell lung cancer, though slightly worse than for adenocarcinoma. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn I was then diagnoised with NSCC of the other lung, they found a tumor on the Junction of the upper and lower lobe of the left lung. At the time of the procedure it messured 1.3 cm at the time of being placed on Tarceva the measurment 1.9 cm with in three wks after surgery in April. 194838 tn?1303428544 definition of carcinoma Classification of carcinoma Carcinoma, like all neoplasia, is classified by its histopathological appearance. Adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, two common descriptive terms for tumors, reflect the fact that these cells may have glandular or squamous cell appearances respectively. Severely anaplastic tumors might be so undifferentiated that they do not have a distinct histological appearance (undifferentiated carcinoma).
Avatar f tn The survival rate depends on what specific treatment was used in the clinical trial, and what organ the squamous cell carcinoma originated from (e.g. lung, head and neck, skin, unknown primary site, etc.). I can answer your question better if you can give me more details regarding the patient being treated (age, sex, etc.), the type of cancer being treated (lung, head and neck, etc.), and the treatment being given. Hope to hear from you soon.
365470 tn?1232747095 Hi all just want to keep you posted , my husband started on the drug Tarceva since his lung cancer is in operable this is supposed to dry up the blood flow to the tumor so it will shrink, so just praying that it does and all goes well, then he will have chemo, the oncologist said no to radiation.
Avatar n tn We asked about radiation/chemo/surgery and she said this was not a option. But I read on here about others who had Lung cancer that went to the Adrenal Gland and brain etc. and they had surgery or radiation? Also do you know of a Doctor up here near Buffalo New York other than Roswell Hospital that we could go for a second opinion.? Thanks for your help!
506791 tn?1439842983 It is true that there is quite a difference between small cell and large cell lung cancer. Large cell is "slower" or I guess you could day less aggressive. There are drugs now that starve the tumor of blood flow like Tarceva. As far as the time a person has left to live, none of us know the answer to that question...
Avatar f tn Edema (fluid accumulation in any body part, resulting in swelling) has been reported as an adverse event in 37% of pancreatic cancer patients taking Tarceva, although this side effect has not been reported in lung cancer cases. However, the type of edema associated with Tarceva use is either generalized or involves a swelling of both legs. Swelling in only one leg may not be due to this drug. Unilateral leg swelling may be due to a local infection (cellulitis) in that area.
Avatar f tn Hello I am a caretaker. My client was diagnose with lung cancer stage IV. It has already spread to the spine, both lungs and the lymph system. Doctors triede Tarceva for 3 weeks but her body had a very bad reaction. For the spine they did radiotherapy. But since she was diagnose 3 months ago she has lost aalmost her voice. she is using oxygen for the major part of the day but doctors don't wan't to talk about time. no more medes will be given and she was reffer to hospice....
Avatar n tn If the patient improves with the radiation, or maintains adequate strength or performance status(sufficient strength is usually defined as able to remain up and about at least half of the waking hours), you may wish to discuss other options aside from tarceva - such as the original plan of cisplatin and etoposide. This is because there is a known benefit for these drugs in terms of survival when used as first option among good performance status patients.
676912 tn?1332812551 He was diagnosed with squamous cell and adenocarcinoma, he has a spot in his brain as well. So if it is cancer, is it lung cancer that has spread to his brain or brain cancer as well?
Avatar n tn In 2005, he had Tarceva. In 2008 they discovered metastasis to the liver (3 lesions) and he underwent chemo again (I think Avastin) and he finished the treatment in March. The doctor said the tumors in both the lungs and liver were smaller. For the past 3 weeks he´s been vomiting, but sporadically. There is no pattern. It doesn´t matter if he eats lightly or heavily. Some days he vomits once, some days nothing. He went to see a Gastroenterologist. They did a sonogram...
329994 tn?1301663248 I just got back the results of skin biopsies and I have one that turned out to be cancer, but it is basal cell carcinoma. So why do I have squamous cells in my urine and what should I do about that? Thank you for any help.
Avatar n tn Your particular lung cancer type – Stage 3 lung cancer encompasses several lung cancer types The location of your cancer - Stage 3 lung cancer is broken down into stage 3A lung cancer and stage 3B lung cancer, depending upon which tissues near the lungs that the cancer has spread to Your age – Younger people tend to live longer than older people with lung cancer Your sex – The life expectancy for woman with lung cancer is higher at each stage of lung cancer Your general health at the time
Avatar n tn the trifecta! My most recent skin challenge has been with squamous cell. I consulted 4 different dermatologists over the years that all misdiagnosed the lesions on my scalp and high up at the back of my neck. I basically gave up, until the one at the back of my neck grew to a marble shaped tumor and became painful when I washed my hair. I finally went to doctor #5. He has not done a skin graft. He chose to remove each lesion, one at a time as a skin sparing effect, which has dragged it out.
Avatar m tn inoperable; no relevant mutations. He had undergone radiation to lung and several rounds of chemo (Carboplatin, Taxotere, Cisplatin, Gemzar). He also had surgery to remove one brain met (January 2014) and one kidney (May 2014)… CT scan in December showed no mets outside lung and lymph nodes…. He started Tarceva this January but it seems it did not work as the cancer spread to brain….

Avatar f tn My father was diagnosed with squamous cell cancer in his lungs 2 years ago and my grandmother on mothers side died from lung cancer also. This really bothers me. I have been on 4 rounds of different antobiotics, nasal sprays, mucinex dm, xyzal, delsem, robitussin, prednezone and I also take protonix for gerd. Nothing seems to work I am 37 years old and for the most part have been healthy. I had a chest X-ray last May 07. showed nothing then. Should I be worried.
Avatar m tn My 15 year old cat "Q" who is otherwise very healthy, has squamous cell carcinoma on the left side of his nose. Since having a biopsy, the spot has grown larger and more angry looking. I took him to a specialist vet in my area, who told me that it was difficult to give a determination of risks vs rewards of excision and flap graft, rather than letting the cat continue in his otherwise happy circumstance. Can you advise?
438514 tn?1305734140 Long story short, 8 weeks after her original hysterecotomy she had another surgery anticipating a bowel resection and they found 5-7 golf ball sized tumors throughout her bowels of the same squamous cell carncinoma. She had a ctPET scan and 13 days after surgery and has a 56.5 mm mass and 4-5 clusters of cancer cells in her abdomin, but nowhere else. On day 14 after surgery, she started chemo.

Avatar n tn The good news is the prognosis for cats with Squamous cell carcinoma is much better than it is for other types of cancer. If the cancer is treated early enough, squamous cell carcinoma in cats is usually treatable. In most cats with skin Squamous cell carcinoma, the prognosis following surgery is excellent. It is promising that the affected area is small. It is a much better prognosis than for nose, ears or mouth!
