Common Questions and Answers about Tamsulosin prostate

flomax

Avatar m tn I am using Flowmax (Tamsulosin) for about 3 months for enlarged prostate. I started noticing my Testicles hang lower now and not tight anymore since I have been using this medication.. Could this be from the use of Tamsulosin?
Avatar m tn I am 43yrs old and was treated for stage one prostate cancer last year. I had agressive treatment with a combination of external radiation and Brachytherapy. I now on Uromax tablets (Tamsulosin Hydrochloride 0.4 mg) which is causing me severe pain when ejaculating. Please advice if there is anything I can as I am still very young.
1580703 tn?1651904887 While tamsulosin is used primarily as a prostate medication, it can also lower blood pressure in some individuals. This may be a sign that your blood pressure is high (which may lead to chest pain in some), which is then being reduced by the tamsulosin. Enlargement can occur due to a number of reasons. Right atrium and ventricle enlargement can sometimes happen in the setting of underlying pulmonary disease, or severe disease of the left side of the heart.
Avatar n tn Are you taking Flomax for prostate issues? Flomax works by relaxing the muscles in the bladder and prostate, which leads to improved flow of urine and fewer symptoms of BPH. It indeed can have side effects like you describe. https://www.healthline.com/health/enlarged-prostate/flomax-side-effects#side-effects It's a relatively low percentage of patients, less than 4% that have these types of side effects but none the less, that could be going on for you.
Avatar f tn s time for a prostate exam anyway. If you have a family history of prostate cancer, that may be started earlier than 50.
Avatar m tn At 65 I was told I was "late" in getting BPH, but as anyone knows, better late but not better than never with this one. Anyway, I have tried Epsom Salt baths and UrinoZinc, as I did not like Tamsulosin at all. It made my breathing labored, and I don't like the idea of Retrograde Ejaculation. I have had painful external orgasms and urination, and although my enlargement is not that bad-the Urologist told me it was .5 and had others at 1 and 1.
Avatar m tn Obstruction is a possibility also hinted, afaik, by a large urea/creatinine ratio in the urine. I am taking tamsulosin 0.4 mg/d and testing with my doctor 0.8 mg/d to check PVR. I have had regularly and also recently DREs which were all normal. I am 56, otherwise healthy, moderately active, fit and eating a well balanced diet with relatively high protein intake (Zone).
Avatar f tn Along with a UTI & enlarged prostate, it’s slso possible there is some inflammation of the prostate - the urinary & sexual functions are interconnected & I believe it’s not unusual to have a UTI as well as prostate inflammation or infection, i.e., Prostatitis. That will definitely cause a slower urine stream & uncomfortable feeling in the area, and is often somewhat resistant to antibiotic treatment. Also Inflammation can continue sometimes even after infection has cleared up.
Avatar n tn The doctor put me on finasteride to reduce the prostate size and tamsulosin (Flowmax) which is working. I asked my doctor if I had to take these two medications for the rest of my life he said yes. I told him I wanted to try natural herbs like saw palmetto, beta sitosterol and other herbs for the prostate. He said the medication he is giving me is way stronger than those and keep taking the medication.
1580703 tn?1651904887 the pain was through the whole pelvis and also individual veins or spermatic cord. does Flomax permanently shrink your prostate or reduce testosterone levels? I read one forum where people where saying they had a permanent loss of strength, could not throw the discus as far? I'm still not cured of the pelvic pain on Flomax+cipro after a few days it is labeled as relaxing the bladder neck and prostate muscles but it has these strength loss problems.
Avatar m tn He said that the Flomax relaxes muscles in the bladder and prostate, and the Avodart shrinks the prostate. He said that after a year or so, if the prostate has gone down and reduced the problems, they like to eliminate the Flomax, as it is no longer necessary. Long story short, I now have a prescription for Avodart alone. I realize that it may not reduce the surgery risk, but one less drug is a good thing.
Avatar n tn Pain in the penis during defecation could be a sign of an inflamed prostate as the nerve supply to the prostate and tip of the penis are by the same nerve. Diabetes is a possibility at any age, especially with a family history of diabetes. A simple blood sugar test would identify whether you have diabetes or not. However, diabetes would have also been characterized by excessive thirst and night-time urination also.
Avatar m tn Coli the urine culture showed this antibiogram that im adding next. The rectal tact showed a swelled prostate. So mi urologist sent me 20 days of cefuroxime. Also Tamsulosin (alpha blocker) and antiinflamatory medication for the pain. Escherichiae coli Ampicilina Sensible MIC <2 Ampicilina sulbactam Sensible MIC <2 Cefalotin Sensible MIC 4.00 Cefuroxime Sensible MIC 2.
Avatar m tn I am a 55 year old male and been taking Tamsulosin for about 7-10 months. Statistically I have an increase chance to have bladder problems, but nobody in my family had issues. True that my dad died at 57 due to prostate and/or brain cancer (had them both). My PSA is within limits and doctor's exam (you, know the "fun" part) was OK.
Avatar f tn Hi, There are a number of possible reasons for blood in the urine .The common causes are infections in the bladder or prostate, inflammations of the kidney, stones in the bladder or elsewhere in the urinary tract and tumours of the urinary tract like warts, benign growths and cancers. For kidney pain you may take a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug such as ibuprofen or naproxen .Few doctors also recommend Tamsulosin to speed the passage of stones.
Avatar m tn I am scheduled for these two tests prior deciding for TURP (or TUIP or laser as KTP or HoLRP or??(*)). The rationale is that despite high doses (2x0.4 mg) of alpha blockers (tamsulosin) I still have a huge residual (~500-600 mL) and maybe a distended bladder. I might have developed a chronic retention and I am told TURP will help. But is it true? My symptoms are mild and beside the asymptomatic retention I do not feel anything particular.
Avatar m tn ve tried 2000 mg of azithromycin, taken cefixime numerous times, and been put on 500 mg of ciprofloxacin and tamsulosin for 2 weeks. The last one seemed to make me feel almost right, but a week after I stopped taking them, it's back to being sore. I'm literally at my wit's end with this.
Avatar f tn If my husband should keep hydrated to prevent fainting when its very hot outside, he'd really have a problem. He has a bladder problem which stems back to his prostate problem. He'd be in the bathroom constantly. As it is he is in here every hour and still has urine retention which greatly effects his comfort level. Urologist isn't doing much to help him. Do people with MS have to use catheters as a rule, or is this a unusual problem?
Avatar f tn A doctor prescribed Amoxicillin 625mg + Tamsulosin medicine for 10 days to me. I have a side effect after taking Tamsulosin (Retrograde ejaculation) or any other ejaculation problem. Is this normal or should I stop using Tamsulosin? Or will it (Retrograde ejaculation ) recover after stop using ten days? Should I keep getting Tamsulosin for 10 days or stop?
Avatar m tn In the mean time, while regularly consulting urologists, testing PSA, its velocity, doubling time and free %,, having lower abdomen scanning (CT and ultrasonography) I developed symptoms of BPH mainly shown as a very important post void residual (PVR, increasing from 100-200 to about 500mL). I am prescribed tamsulosin 0.4mg/d and doubling dose to 0.8mg/d but PVR remains very high and considering TURP or similar.
Avatar f tn I tried this for 6 days with no change to the symptoms Again tested Urine - negative for bactria etc 7 weeks from the first symptoms,we tried Lyrica 0.4mg (twice a day) along with Tamsulosin (Alphablocker, once in night) and continue Celebrex 200 mg twice a day. I changed my Urologist, he did an ultrasound and DRE and bladder, kidney and prostate are in good shape with no inflammation or abnormalities.
Avatar n tn Aside from a urinary tract infection, urinary urgency may be associated with other medial conditions such as diabetes and prostate problems. Medication side effect, tumor and other brain or nervous system diseases may also be associated. If the symptoms persist, further evaluation and diagnostic tests may be done to determine the underlying cause. Imaging studies as well as blood tests may also be indicated. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn These tubes join together and go through the prostate gland to the penis. The journey distance is about 6 metres (because the epididymis tube is very tiny and tightly coiled), and can take up to 3 weeks. Nourishing fluids from the seminal vesicle and prostate gland increase the volume, so sperm make up only about 5% of semen (also known as seminal fluid or ejaculate). During sex, the semen gathers inside the base of the penis.
