Tamsulosin and prostate cancer

Common Questions and Answers about Tamsulosin and prostate cancer

flomax

Avatar m tn I am 43yrs old and was treated for stage one prostate cancer last year. I had agressive treatment with a combination of external radiation and Brachytherapy. I now on Uromax tablets (Tamsulosin Hydrochloride 0.4 mg) which is causing me severe pain when ejaculating. Please advice if there is anything I can as I am still very young.
Avatar f tn s time for a prostate exam anyway. If you have a family history of prostate cancer, that may be started earlier than 50.
Avatar n tn Are you taking Flomax for prostate issues? Flomax works by relaxing the muscles in the bladder and prostate, which leads to improved flow of urine and fewer symptoms of BPH. It indeed can have side effects like you describe. https://www.healthline.com/health/enlarged-prostate/flomax-side-effects#side-effects It's a relatively low percentage of patients, less than 4% that have these types of side effects but none the less, that could be going on for you.
Avatar m tn I am using Flowmax (Tamsulosin) for about 3 months for enlarged prostate. I started noticing my Testicles hang lower now and not tight anymore since I have been using this medication.. Could this be from the use of Tamsulosin?
Avatar m tn I have had painful external orgasms and urination, and although my enlargement is not that bad-the Urologist told me it was .5 and had others at 1 and 1.5-I am still suffering quite a bit with pain and discomfort. Swimming helps a bit, and I am lucky enough not be going every half hour or hour. Actually, I only went 1 time during the night and average 3-4 hours before going. But the discomfort that comes after urinating is really a pain in the tookas.
1580703 tn?1651904887 While tamsulosin is used primarily as a prostate medication, it can also lower blood pressure in some individuals. This may be a sign that your blood pressure is high (which may lead to chest pain in some), which is then being reduced by the tamsulosin. Enlargement can occur due to a number of reasons. Right atrium and ventricle enlargement can sometimes happen in the setting of underlying pulmonary disease, or severe disease of the left side of the heart.
Avatar m tn Obstruction is a possibility also hinted, afaik, by a large urea/creatinine ratio in the urine. I am taking tamsulosin 0.4 mg/d and testing with my doctor 0.8 mg/d to check PVR. I have had regularly and also recently DREs which were all normal. I am 56, otherwise healthy, moderately active, fit and eating a well balanced diet with relatively high protein intake (Zone).
Avatar m tn Statistically I have an increase chance to have bladder problems, but nobody in my family had issues. True that my dad died at 57 due to prostate and/or brain cancer (had them both). My PSA is within limits and doctor's exam (you, know the "fun" part) was OK. Anyway my question is related to what is the simplest explanation, so I can make peace in my head (and not think of the worst) while I wait for the CT and urology visits at the end of the week.
Avatar m tn Saw my primary MD today. He said that the Flomax relaxes muscles in the bladder and prostate, and the Avodart shrinks the prostate. He said that after a year or so, if the prostate has gone down and reduced the problems, they like to eliminate the Flomax, as it is no longer necessary. Long story short, I now have a prescription for Avodart alone. I realize that it may not reduce the surgery risk, but one less drug is a good thing.
Avatar m tn //www.medhelp.org/posts/Prostate-Cancer/Sudden-PSA-Rise--Hormonal-changes/show/1781895 I realize this is probably not the right place to ask some of my questions but thank you in advance for any comment and recommendation you might have including eventually a different Forum.
Avatar m tn A prostatectomy (surgery to remove the entire prostate gland, either for cancer or benign enlargement) results in a higher risk of retrograde ejaculation after the procedure.
Avatar f tn I also feel urine flow had slowed down Last month again I had burning sensation while urinating and pain in lower abdomen. Urine analysis and culture was done. Urine had some bacteria and urine albumin showed Trace + no growth in culture. Doctor prescribed some antibiotics for 3 days. After this I have burning sensation while urinating sometimes in morning. Am really worried. Is it some serious issue??
Avatar n tn The doctor put me on finasteride to reduce the prostate size and tamsulosin (Flowmax) which is working. I asked my doctor if I had to take these two medications for the rest of my life he said yes. I told him I wanted to try natural herbs like saw palmetto, beta sitosterol and other herbs for the prostate. He said the medication he is giving me is way stronger than those and keep taking the medication.
1580703 tn?1651904887 However it has been reported that treatment with FLOMAX capsules for up to 12 months had no significant effect on prostate-specific antigen (PSA) and does not effect prostate. It effect the vision and may cause blurred vision but that is found in only 0.2- 2% of the patients. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor.
Avatar m tn One of the doctors I talked to I asked if there could be a problem with my prostate and his answer was that I was too young to be worrying about that (I'm 33). I didn't really trust that answer though.
Avatar m tn HI, It would be best not to use two pharmacological agents antagonistically, even if the effects are side effects. This means that since it is obvious that the finasteride is responsible for the erectile dysfunction, the viagra should not be used to counter it. It would be better to switch to another drug for your problem. Regular ejaculation, about 3-4 times a week, has been considered ideal for keeping the prostate healthy.
Avatar m tn huge PVR and potential complications. No apparent effect on the PVR or large doses of tamsulosin (2x0.4mg) and prostate too small for finasteride/dutasteride. • Surgery went very well. Surgeon very well experimented and cautious (2000+ interventions) • So far one complication: had to be re-catheterized the very same day they removed the 3 ways surgery cath as I could not urinate at all. • 19 days after, I am drinking a lot (2-3l fluids), taking normal dose of tamsulosin in the evening (0.
Avatar n tn Pain in the penis during defecation could be a sign of an inflamed prostate as the nerve supply to the prostate and tip of the penis are by the same nerve. Diabetes is a possibility at any age, especially with a family history of diabetes. A simple blood sugar test would identify whether you have diabetes or not. However, diabetes would have also been characterized by excessive thirst and night-time urination also.
Avatar f tn For kidney pain you may take a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug such as ibuprofen or naproxen .Few doctors also recommend Tamsulosin to speed the passage of stones. The size and location of ureter stones are the most important factors for predicting the spontaneous passage of the stone. Lithotripsy is a good option for stones 1 cm or less in the kidney and upper ureter. Consult a nephrologist for more queries and assistance. Hope it helped. Best luck and regards!
Avatar f tn If you go on you tube and enter non invasive procedures for prostate cancer detection or prostaye cancer biopsy needle tracking and you see videos fron universities and prostate research and other different type entries. Any doctor of urology will also tell you it is possible but rarely happens which is not the all together the truth ..I have been researching this and other prostate information for 6 plus years. But enough said ...
Avatar f tn Well, management protocol of prostate cancer is not as well defined as other cancers and largely depends on the stage of the cancer. For localized lesions, gamma knife may be a suitable option with results as good as surgery and better results for maintenance of urinary continence. It would be best to discuss the pros and cons and the expected prognosis in detail with your treating oncologist. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar m tn My symptoms are mild and beside the asymptomatic retention I do not feel anything particular. My prostate is relatively small (32g) and PSA evolved “normally” for 1.8 to 2.3 in 8 years. If I knew TURP or similar will eliminate the problem I would be much more confident on the process and accept risks but I have doubts the problem with bladder would remain and I am not sure what you can do for it. Did you go through the same process and doubts? Would TURP be really helpful in my condition?
Avatar f tn He had a biopsy and he had Gleason 7 cancer and atypical cells in another area of the prostate. After his prostate removal surgery, the atypical cells turned out to be Gleason 6, or 3 + 3, which is slow growing cancer. This is what I have learned with our journey and what you need to remember.... 1). This is a highly curable cancer if it is present. And if it is present, you cannot change it but only deal with what is in front of you.
Avatar f tn If my husband should keep hydrated to prevent fainting when its very hot outside, he'd really have a problem. He has a bladder problem which stems back to his prostate problem. He'd be in the bathroom constantly. As it is he is in here every hour and still has urine retention which greatly effects his comfort level. Urologist isn't doing much to help him. Do people with MS have to use catheters as a rule, or is this a unusual problem?
Avatar n tn You could probably think of people with breast cancer who had spouses with prostate cancer as both cancers are pretty common. Since prostate cancer is common, you may also hear of spouses with other cancers – uterine, cervical, etc. There is a good screening method for cervical cancer, talk about it with your doctor. This has reduced the number of cervical cancer cases substantially. This is much better than being scared.
Avatar f tn A doctor prescribed Amoxicillin 625mg + Tamsulosin medicine for 10 days to me. I have a side effect after taking Tamsulosin (Retrograde ejaculation) or any other ejaculation problem. Is this normal or should I stop using Tamsulosin? Or will it (Retrograde ejaculation ) recover after stop using ten days? Should I keep getting Tamsulosin for 10 days or stop?
