Taking levemir in morning

Common Questions and Answers about Taking levemir in morning

levemir

Avatar n tn I have recently changed to new insulin. I am now taking Levemir in the morning and at night taking Apidra. Since I have changed to this insulin my blood sugar is going upby alot. I was at 176 this morning and within a few hours it was at 296. This has never happened before and I have not changed anything in my eating. Why is it going up so much and how can I make this stop?
Avatar f tn and will stay high untill your body makes enough insulin or you inject FAST insulin. Taking levemir to counter eating will result in dangerously low BG (Hypoglycemia)! Insulin use is difficult to explain, you need to talk to an MD that knows how to administer Basal/Bolus insulin therapy. And or read the book "Using insulin by John Walsh" Levemir is used to regulate your fasting BG. and the fast insulin used to counter carbohydrate in the diet.
1353681 tn?1387083733 Insurance forced me transition from Lantus to Levemir in February, and I haven't seen any difference in effectiveness. I am only taking one injection before bed, and it's worked just as well as Lantus in keeping my morning numbers in range. The biggest difference I noticed was that Lantus would burn every time I injected and Levemir does not.
Avatar n tn I was taking insulin only in the abdomen. Yestaerday, I took Levemir on right thigh, humalog in the left thigh. I could not make effective use of the pattern of sugar to take decision. Anxiety is also factor for sugar and pressure increase.
Avatar n tn When you eat, you need the fast acting insulin like Novolog to act quickly to cover the meal. For some, Lantus and Levemir act the same. For me, Levemir seemed to work better in that it provided more consistency to my blood sugar levels. I like Levemir. I have switched to 2 shots per day (morning and night) instead of just taking the 1 shot at night, because the 1 shot at night may not cover the 24 hours.
Avatar n tn When I started using 2u Lantus in morning, 2 weeks ago, I'd go low in the late afternoon/early evening, and then my morning sugars would be elevated ... 140s, 150s. So I split the dose: I'm now using 1.5u Lantus AM & 1u Lantus PM. It definitely works better than 2u QD, and I've checked the middle of the night - not a problem. The drug sheet for Lantus doesn't mention BID dosing, but my internet articles do. What are your thoughts, and is Levemir better for BID dosing?
Avatar m tn they still have a peak and one has to be aware of this - though it can be very useful in addressing the dawn phenomenon. When I was taking Humalin-R I would typically go low by late morning. Compared to insulins like Levemir (Insulin Detemir), which have a fairly flat profile for their duration of action. Though many people find they are better dosed every twice a day rather than every 24 hours as the manufacturer would like people to believe.
Avatar f tn the levemir is a long acting insulin so it will be in her system for 24 hours. what is here normal does of Levemir? when and how often dose she take levemir? She will have to check her BG more often and watch out for Hypos (low BG). make sure she always has her test kit and a fast acting carb (IE reg sugar soda, orange juice, glucose tabs...) to raise BG with her.
Avatar f tn i`m 10 lds less then what my dr wanted me to be at and still have morning hi`s! i take 1 shot in morning and meds 1 shot at night too; sometimes my husband said when he come to bed ( he works 2nd shift i work 1st ) i am soaking wet how do you stop this cycle? if i would wake up to eat in the nite then it will break my sleep up and then i`ll be to tried for work! i can`t do that i`m in qc i insect test stripe to check blood sugar levels and we all don`t what bad test strips do we!
Avatar f tn My doctor recently changed my long acting insulin from lantus 90 units at night, to toujeo 90 units. Since taking toujeo I have gained 8 pound in 3 weeks. I'm so not happy. Lantus I didn't have that problem. I just had hip surgery so I can't move around as much. The doctor is like your making excuses about gaining weight. I follow a vegan vegetarian meal plan I'm not making excuses. I haven't gained weight in two years. I've been losing. She is pissing me off.
Avatar n tn m on novolog and levemir (levemir is just at bedtime).
Avatar f tn about blood sugars in the 800s, and your husband seems to be in denial of the results of extremely high blood sugars. I don't think cinnamon is a safe recommendation for someone with high enough blood sugars to have ketones and at risk for DKA. DKA can be a life threatening emergency.
Avatar n tn Just over the past 6 months or so, they gave him LANTUS, in addition to his meds. (Actos, Glypizide, Metaformin) He takes the meds in the morning and the LANTUS at night. Here is my problem. He has a lot of highs and lows. Just 3 weeks ago, his average was 115. This week a different story. He has been in the mid 200's and he has not changed his diet. This morning, before breakfast, his sugar was 337. He is very depressed and I feel so bad for him.
Avatar n tn I havnt seen a lot of results yet.
Avatar n tn In the morning they are lower 100's for example, today was 112. Never higher than 130. I've been on my long acting plan for some time now it's 20 of Lantas around 9 p.
Avatar n tn I have read about folks taking their Lantus shot in the morning or at night or a partial dose at each time. If you were taking the Lantus in the morning and "crashing" overnight, then talk to your doc about taking it at night instead -- then the timing of any drops would be while you're wide awake and able to test & treat. If you had been taking it at night (which is what I'm guessing, given the timing of your "drop"), then shift to the morning.
Avatar f tn Take your lantus at night (instead of in the morning), if you are not already taking it at night. This way, at least it will be fully active over night. 2. Split the lantus into 2 doses to get better coverage. The doses may not necessarily be the same. ie. You may need a higher dose at night than in the morning. 3. Try levemir (a different long acting insulin), which is typically dosed twice a day. 4. Ask your dr to prescribe you the new insulin Tresiba.
Avatar n tn Do these sounds like allergies and has anyone else had the same problems? I also get up in the morning aching all over and this also started with the Lantus.
Avatar m tn I am diabetic 2. Taking Levemir 23 units at night. 13 unit humalog in every meal. Sugar is not very well controlled yet. But does not go above 10 mmol/l . I feel shortness of breath, if I walk or quickly come in the bed. Before 6 months EKG was done and no problem.
Avatar f tn I am a T2 diabetic small frame small build 110 lb. I have recently started taking Lantus at night and Humalog before meals. After about a month my stomach pain was unbearable. It began with chills at night, severe dry heaves, (unable to throw up due to reflux surgery) and diahhrea. My doctor said he thought I had a virus. I could not figure out what was going on. I usually gave myself shots in the upper stomach area, so I moved the shots to my legs with no improvement.
Avatar m tn Also, you mentioned that you are taking 500 units of Insulin. That tells me that you either have made an error in your dosing or you are really not a Diabetic. No one takes 500units of Insulin in one dose. I am a considered a brittle Diabetic and I only use about 300 units every 3-4 days. Maybe that's why you are out of breath, lol. You would actually die if you took that much Insulin at once.
1340011 tn?1276617767 My Sugar is 200 or so in the mornings taking 46 units of insulin in the evening. I am pretty sedentary but have been trying water aerobics once a week. Any help would be appreciated. I am married and have a hubby who is a hoarder so that doesn't help either.
20693191 tn?1503884408 I was waking up in the middle of the night hypoglycemic. The lowest was 2.9 and even then, in the morning, sometimes at 3.5-4.0. She decided to bring it down to 40. Not low enough. During the day my ratios went from 1:7 to 1:6. Still, my readings were too low in the morning, when waking up. She lowered it again to 36 but I had to change my ration to 1:5 I'm really not sure what the hell is going on. I'm exercising almost every day to keep my levels at a normal rate.
Avatar n tn My doctor started me in September last year on just NPH and my dose got quite high. (65 units in the evening and about 45 in the morning) Then he added the bolus, "as needed", without an adjustment. He did say that as long as I was taking consistent readings, and was able to do the carb counting, that I could adjust the bolus to match my readings, trying to figure out the carb ratio by trying to maintain a difference of no more than plus/minus 2 mmol/L between before meal and after.
Avatar n tn Make the child become an active participant in their own health and well-being, so they can feel like they are the ones who have control over it and little by little they will come around because they will start to see the difference in how they feel and how they are able to get along in the world. Do some internet searches on "ADHD medications and insulin" and you will see some interesting studies that you can show to your child and have a discussion about.
