appendicitis

Avatar m tn I know you will say I need checked out and I agree in my brain, but the other part of my brain wants to know if these long pain free periods over the course of 3 or so months without a perforation are typical of appendicitis issues? So, in summary, I am curious about the long course of this and the pain free periods. Thank you.
Avatar n tn s, it might be worth checking out. Normally, the muscles in the wall of the stomach contract in a coordinated way to move food through the stomach into the small intestine. The autonomic nervous system controls this muscular action. Diabetes can damage the autonomic nerves. This is called diabetic autonomic neuropathy. As a result, the stomach loses it's coordinated muscular activity and doesn't empty the stomach properly.
Avatar m tn They can move, cause pain and again remain in a position for long periods of time. Similarly chronic appendicitis too can behave this way with bouts of pain, localization of infection and inflammation and a symptom free period. Crohn’s disease, diverticulitis, infection in kidney, constipation, and an abscess in rectus abdominis muscle or psoas muscle can all cause lower right abdomen pain. An ultrasound or CT scan of abdomen is definitely required. Hope this helps.
9497408 tn?1404140019 On the surface, your symptoms sound like appendicitis. Your elevated temp, the referred pain, all points to that. Sometimes ultrasounds do not reveal the true issue - they are not detailed enough. Personally, I experienced appendicitis much like you are experiencing. The "twist" was I had a cyst in my intestine as well. It took surgery to locate the problem(s). No test - and I had them all - revealed the truth. Go to the hospital. They are probably thinking you are drug-seeking.
Avatar n tn t know what it was but figured it was some type of infection. Ultrasound was done on Wednesday am. which showed inflammation of the small and large intestine (ileum area), enlarged lymph nodes and thickening of the small intestinal wall. They have been treating him with a cocktail of antibiotics, morphine for pain, Ketorolac anti-inflammatory. He had been constipated since the previous Friday when he was first admitted but then diarrhea now began on Wednesday.
Avatar f tn Srump appendicitis is when the small portion of appendix remaining after an appendectomy gets inflamed again. You basically get appendicitis for the second time. I'm more and more convinced that the pain comes from the cyst though... I was in terrible pain today and I thought that my ovary got torsioned or that the cyst ruptured, becsuse the pain was BAD. So i had an ultrasound. It turns out the cyst on my right side wasn't bleeding and nothing else was wrong...

Avatar n tn The appendix is a small pouch connected to the cecum, which is part of your intestines near where the small and large intestine connect. The appendix doesn't lead anywhere; it just kind of hangs off doing nothing and serving no known purpose. Appendicitis happens when fecal matter gets trapped in the appendix and as a result the appendix becomes infected. In case you wanted to know exactly how it happens.
Avatar n tn Benign dermoid ovarian cysts uncommonly cause symptoms in young girls. It is estimated that they constitute 0.35% of all tumors occurring in children of both sexes less than 15 years of age. Symptoms produced by the cysts may mimic other intra-abdominal disease, and in three of the four cases reported in this series the girls were initially considered to have either acute appendicitis or infection of the urinary tract. All three had a pelvic mass palpable per rectum.
Avatar n tn Hello, There are many possibilities to your symptoms. The most likely one is appendicitis(inflammation of the appendix).Others are irritable bowel syndrome(irregular bowel movements of constipation and diarrhea along with the pain and nausea are there), Crohn's disease(Crohn's disease most commonly affects the last part of the small intestine, usually located in the right lower abdomen) ,kidney infections, intestinal obstruction, mesenteric occlusion or enteritis.
Avatar n tn By night it was pretty bad, enough to wake me up in the night multiple times. I went to the doctor today described the symptoms which are; dull, achy pain, with some sharp pains. Doing things like walking, running, jumping, and taking steps down hurt. The area is painful to the touch, quite painful actually. The are looks slightly swollen. Its right under my "belly" maybe 4 inches from my belly button, but the pain can radiate all across the area and even up to my upper abdomen.
697148 tn?1235499341 Hi Sarah19734, The simplest reason would be a "side ache" from just over exertion, and if this is your only symptom that's probably what a doctor will tell you also. Females have an extra rib bone on the right side and are sometimes more prone to "side aches" also. I'm not exactly sure where your referring to...
Avatar m tn The pain in appendicitis generally starts around the umbilicus and moves to the lower right quadrant of the abdomen. The other symptoms for Appendicitis are fever, nausea, vomiting and malaise. The other causes for pain could be urinary tract infection, pelvic infections, renal colic and sometimes bowel infections. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance. Regards.
Avatar m tn t necessarily rule out appendix issues either - The symptoms of appendicitis can vary. It can be hard to diagnose appendicitis in young children, the elderly, and women of childbearing age. The first symptom is often pain around your belly button. (See: Abdominal pain) The pain may be minor at first, but it becomes more sharp and severe. Your appetite will be reduced and you may have nausea, vomiting, and a low fever.
Avatar m tn I have been doing so much research, and I can relate to every single testimony I have seen about people with chronic appendicitis in some way or another. I am 99% sure that I have it. The only 1% of doubt that I have is the fact that my appendix hasn't been taken out yet. So, after giving my background, my real question is where I can find a surgeon to help me. I live in Michigan, so I would prefer to have a reference for someone nearby, but at this point I'll take anything.
Avatar f tn Strokes can cause many clinical findings including weakness, numbness, changes in cognition, etc, depending on the location of the stroke. An MRI of the brain is a very useful modality to identify strokes. If indeed there was a structural lesion (i.e., stroke), it should be seen on the MRI. However, MRIs are only so specific and sensitive for detecting strokes. I agree your son should continue following up with the neurologist. Neuroimaging would be useful.
Avatar m tn Hi, appendicitis as such is more of a clinical diagnosis. In chronic appendicitis what we see may just be thickening of the bowel wall or appendix on a CT scan. But usually the image findings are correlated with clinical symptoms and blood tests. If an acute infection the neutrophils are raised and if due to tuberculosis, the lymphocytes are raised in blood counts.
Avatar n tn When you repost this please include any and all labs and values you have currently, what the doctors have said, and what his symptoms are. Yes, unlike doctors we are very interested in symptoms. We believe that is the heart of auto immune and it goes so commonly ignored. I really hope you get some answers soon!
Avatar m tn The pains and symptoms that you have detailed here are suggestive an enteritis or inflammation of the small intestine with some dysmotility (abnormal movements of the intestines). This is most commonly infectious in origin but can occur due to other causes as well. Pain in appendicitis is usually sharp and starts in the periumbilical area (area around the umbilicus) and later shifts to the right lower zone. It is usually associated with vomiting and some fever.
Avatar f tn Also, I talked to a girl in my class who had to have her appendix removed because of appendicitis, and I asked her what she experienced before she realised it was appendicitis. She told me, and while I am aware symptoms vary from person to person, I noticed I had all the signs she had, expect the pain had not moved to the lower right part of my abdomen.
Avatar f tn thank you for your reply iv read a report in BMJ saying an unusual cause of this as appendicitis would this have shown up in the ultra sound scans or is a CT scan the only way to see this
