Avatar n tn this will be up to her primary care physician as well as the anesthesiologist and the surgeon. I can say, though, that good cardiac surgical centers frequently perform cardiac surgery in patients much older than 60. Unfortunately, I am not familiar with India to be able to tell you the location of a good cardiac surgical center in Hyderabad.
Avatar m tn Every surgical operation has its risks depending on your age or if you have other comorbid conditions (hypertension, diabetes, stroke, etc). Complications include difficulty of breathing, heart problems, kidney problems during or after the operation, though these can be minimized with proper pre-operation evaluation (usually by an internist, or cardiologist).
Avatar n tn If the percentage is less than 29%, a surgical operation is at a high risk and a surgeon may not recommend an operation as the risk may exceed the benefit. Or the estimated dimensions of the heart may be insignificant, and your mom is relatively good health and the risk is minimal.

Avatar m tn If the baby has a large VSD AND an abnormality of the aortic arch (called a coarctation), then the doctor you spoke with is correct. Surgery will likely be necessary to deal with both. The aortic arch narrowing can be significant early after birth and require intervention. If the VSD remains large during the first 3-6 months of life, then surgery is usually recommended as well.
Avatar m tn Thanks for your reply.I haven't seen the cardiac surgeon yet and will obviously take on the best advice.I must admit that my anxiety levels are rather high at the moment.I'll keep following the info on this site. Thanks again.Baz.
Avatar f tn Now I find out that the surgical clips were left in after the surgery. I am just wondering if anybody knows about the long term effects of these clips being left in. Every Dr. I have been to says they are no problem. Reading comments on different web sites from people they are saying they have pain and the Drs. will not admit there is a chance the clips are causing pain.
138239 tn?1239924924 I can tell you that after alot of research and many nights on the computer I found out that during the operation they use surgical clips. I believe the problem stems from these clips. They say they are not harmful but after my first surgery the pain was terrible so I went for a cat scan and there was a surgical clip in my pelvis. I believe the doctor went in - took it out and acted as though nothing was wrong with me and he found nothing wrong with me. Now to my understanding they use 4 clips.
Avatar m tn If you only had a recent testicular surgery done then the pain is likely associated with the surgical procedure and this may require antibiotics and pain relievers. Based on your ultrasound findings there seems to be no involvement of the epididymitis which may help us rule out infections of nearby structures. At this point, I suggest that you continue to observe your symptoms. In the presence of severe pain, redness and swelling , an immediate consult will be necessary.
Avatar f tn The orthopedic surgeon has said that he thinks he can save my ACL ligament via an operation without the use of a graft. He said by doing this type of operation it will be much better in terms of healing ect. I have to do this operation within 8 weeks of the injury occurring or he said it isn't possible and I would have to have a different operation. I have been trying to research this style of operation but I can only find the option where it talks about using a graft from other body parts.
Avatar m tn Bow legs or genu varum can be corrected in adults by surgical remodeling. The exact type of surgical technique would depend on the severity and the exact location of the defect. Temporarily orthotic devices may be used to provide symptomatic relief, though a permanent cure may require a surgery in adults. It would be best to consult an orthopedician for a detailed review and appropriate management.
Avatar n tn In one study of people 90 years old or older who had hip fractures, those who had surgery and survived beyond the immediate post surgical period, a greater percentage of them were alive after 2 years than the group that opted not to have surgery. You should also discuss this with your grandmother's primary care physician. Good luck.
Avatar m tn It is very unlikely that the laser treatment, which undoubtedly was a yag laser capsulotomy, made your eye worse. There are two possibilities: 1. the cystoid edema and macular membrane were there prior to surgery and could not be seen because of the cataract but could be seen after the cataract was removed. 2. The operation caused CME which lead to the ERM. Know that CME is a common problem of both uncomplicated and complicated cataract surgery. It's listed on most surgical consents.
Avatar f tn I had gallbladder surgery three weeks ago and now my hole in my bellybutton reopened. Is something wrong?
4656347 tn?1357634219 I am not sure why they did an open surgery - transphenoidal is the norm now and is less invasive but even though I am not a doctor, your son's lesion looked very large to me but I cannot tell what is lesion and what is the hydrocephalus. I always advocate experience when it comes to surgeons. The larger and more complex the lesion, the more experience you need.
Avatar f tn Therefore, surgical intervention is essential to remove the large cyst and if permanent damage needs to be avoided. Craniotomy, needle aspiration and cerebral shunts are common surgical treatment that may help. But, surgical modalities may have some complications depending upon size of cyst. Before opting for surgical procedures, you should evaluate both the pros and cons with the help of a neurosurgeon. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn Hello, I agree withDrZ123 on this one. Aortic stenosis is a surgical disease. Of course the timing of surgery is the most critical issue and is dependent on the degree of aortic valve stenosis, symptoms and other comorbidities. The outcomes of aortic valve surgery in today's time are excellent. I would recommend a consultation with a cardiologist ASAP to discuss this further.
Avatar m tn I will be having a operation in a few weeks time to have a hysteroctomy because i have cysts that are regrowing after removel on my ovaries. I am just having a few worries about the side effects and things to expect after the operation itself. Please it would be great to hear if anyone has actually had this and what kind of experiences that had from it.
Avatar n tn Also, what is the likelyhood of complications? We are very concerned that if he proceeds with such an invasive surgery that his post surgical quality of life could be diminished. We are uncertain if our concerns are valid. Any information you could provide us with would be appreciated. Thank you for your time.
Avatar n tn Once phimosis is diagnosed, the available treatments include topical corticosteroids, manual stretching, foreskin surgical repair or plastic surgery, and circumcision. Conservative treatments should be tried in the first instance and surgery used as the treatment of last resort. A number of studies show that phimosis can be safely and effectively treated by the application of topical steroids in 80-90% of cases. Betamethasone cream 0.
Avatar f tn There are some risks associated with ICL surgery, in addition to the risk of surgery itself (infection or post-surgical complications). There is a good overview of some of these risks in an article from 2012 which discussed the pros and cons of doing early cataract surgery for sphere/cylinder correction (this is called 'Refractive Lens Exchange" or RLE - not typically used when a patient is younger and can still focus on near objects without reading glasses) vs ICL surgery.
Avatar f tn A nerve block is used during the operation which means that immediately after the operation the shoulder and arm may feel numb. This may last a few hours. After this the shoulder may well be sore and you will be given pain killers to help this whilst in hospital. These can be continued after you are discharged home. Ice packs may also help reduce pain. Wrap frozen peas or crushed ice in a damp, cold cloth and place on the shoulder for up to 15 minutes.
