The procedure is generally performed laparoscopically and is irreversible.

Avatar f tn A nerve block is used during the operation which means that immediately after the operation the shoulder and arm may feel numb. This may last a few hours. After this the shoulder may well be sore and you will be given pain killers to help this whilst in hospital. These can be continued after you are discharged home. Ice packs may also help reduce pain. Wrap frozen peas or crushed ice in a damp, cold cloth and place on the shoulder for up to 15 minutes.
Avatar f tn Surgical repair for torn meniscus of L' Knee. 3 months post-op it buckled, caused tear during fall to R' Knee and meniscus was surgically repaired but has also failed, although the surgeon refuses to order an MRI to "prove" this latest injury. Pain is an issue as I am allergic to all pain meds ordered to date and take nothing for the pain levels of 9-10. Before injury both knees were healthy, minimal arthritic changes on MRI's in spite of age 58 and obesity.
Avatar f tn The orthopedic surgeon has said that he thinks he can save my ACL ligament via an operation without the use of a graft. He said by doing this type of operation it will be much better in terms of healing ect. I have to do this operation within 8 weeks of the injury occurring or he said it isn't possible and I would have to have a different operation. I have been trying to research this style of operation but I can only find the option where it talks about using a graft from other body parts.
Avatar f tn I understand that circmcsion is usual procedure for 1 but can you tell me what does the procedure involve for no.2?
Avatar f tn Hi and welcome. These can be a life long problem as once you get them the tissues have been damaged. Ive had them all my life and short of surgery its a matter of getting used to them and avoiding things that can make them flair up. Try not to eat foods that cause gas or that can constipate you. The new one you have should subside in about 4 days with the creams. If its balloned it has blood trapped in the tissue and untill the blood leaves it will cause pain. The blood pressure is the problem.
Avatar n tn Repair of a displaced and fractured cheekbone is a well established surgical procedure. The exact procedure will depend on the finding on X-ray and at the time of surgery. Your brother need to seek the help of a surgeon qualified to repair facial fractures. If too long an interval occurs (over three to four weeks), the bones will heal in an abnormal position and repair then becomes much more difficult.
Avatar m tn i went in for my planned pressure wire study to the right coronary artery +/- PCI to LAD. I am clearly symptomatic with angina that limits my daily activities, mainly during cold weather. My Doctor has said, 'prior to any intervention procedure, i elected to repeat his coronary angiography in order to assess his previously deployed stent. the stent was patent with only a mild disease in the mid and distal left anterior artery. However my LAD has now become occluded.
Avatar f tn Patient was brought to the Operating Room where she was placed in supine position. General anesthesia was administered via endotracheal tube and found to be adequate. She was then repositioned in dorsal lithotomy position using hydraulic Allen stirrups. TED stockings and sequential compression devices were placed on both lower extremities for DVT prophylaxis. She received 1 gram of Ancef for infectious prophylaxis. She was then examined, prepped and draped in the usual sterile fashion.
Avatar n tn Given that your grandmother is 88 years old with oxygen-dependent severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), her risk of any type of surgery will be high, especially with a major procedure such as fractured hip repair. Her aortic aneurysm is relatively small at 3.5 cm, I assume you meant cm and not mm, and poses minimal risk. The first thing you should do is to have a frank discussion with your grandmother about her desire for surgery.

Avatar n tn the doctor said that the gastrographing procedure confirmed that she had divertiticulitis and that she had to have a sectional colonectomy. what i found wierd is that the a couple of weeks before the operation is that she was having normal bowel movements but still having pain. shouldn't the inflammed intestine cause bits and pieces of feces like she was having before? after the operation he told me that he cut about 6-7 inches of her large intestine near the sigmoid.

Avatar f tn m asking here because I have had high PTH even before my kidneys came close stage 4. And this being the only surgical procedure that could be responsible for the 7 or 8 surgical clips at the bottom of my neck (see AP view of chest, which has been described as being bent from medianastinal fullness. Could these clips have been used to help close an Emergency Airway? Or am I really reaching.
Avatar n tn You need not get worried about the kind of top to wear upon on the day of procedure as you will be given the operation theater gown while surgery and thereafter the normal hospital wear when you will be shifted to you special ward. Probably you may have to be observed for couple of days for regular follow up and the daily/alternate day dressings. I don't think you will be getting a huge dressing anyway. Speak to your attending surgeon regarding your concern. Take care.
Avatar m tn There are many surgical alternatives for either repair or reconstruction of the proximal tib/fib joint. What is more important thant the procedure chosen, is the expertise of the surgeon doing it, and his experience with the particular procedure. In other words, you pick the surgeon, let him pick the procedure. You should inquire as to his experience with this repair, it is not a common operation, and not all orthopedists have done a lot of them.
Avatar f tn If conservative treatment does not allow the patient to resume desired activities, occupation, or sport, surgical treatment is considered. Surgical treatment of symptomatic meniscal tears is recommended because untreated tears may increase in size and may abrade articular cartilage, resulting in arthritis.
