Avatar m tn Hey I'm am about to turn 23 years old and i had open heart surgery when i was 20.. I'll say i havent worked out like i should but im young and small type of guy so its not like i really bad out of shape. My heart may be out of shape though. I still have chest pains like a clinching pain then all of a sudden its like a relief. It squizes tight then lets loose. I think alot of it may be do to stress of school and girls etc..
Avatar f tn t had surgery, but am a canidate. I had to have nuclear stress test. But I also had open heart surgery at 14, and.have a leak in valve. My ekgs are abnormal. Never hurts.to.get one!
Avatar n tn As long as the pain is getting less, it is going the right direction. It is basically a year long recovery process after an open heart surgery. IT takes longer the older a person is. If you find it is getting WORSE, talk to your surgeon. Maybe some physical therapy would help some. Good luck.
Avatar f tn My husband is 66 and recently had a SPECT Myocardial Perfusion Imaging Study (stress test). It was essentially normal, with the exception of the following: "there is a moderate sized reversible defect of the inferior and apical walls". The left ventricle was normal in size and the ejection fractions were 57% at rest and 63% post stress. The internet resources suggest that such a defect could be indicative of a prior silent heart attack. Is this true?
Avatar f tn I had a sick headache, nausea and dizziness which just got worse during the day. My blood pressure 2 hrs after the stress test was something over 96...the test showed no problems with my heart, but my pressure jumped to about 200 over 100 during the test. I did not feel better until they told me I was dehydrated, even though I had been drinking water and juice all day, and I drank many electrolyte drinks. What was this? They had no answer.
Avatar n tn i bet your mum already taking it , these is no other miraculous tablet which can cure what she has apart from an open heart surgery. yes open heart surgery is risky , you never know what might happen , but its a risk you have to take. i hope you will do what' s best for your mother.

Avatar m tn my husband has problems breathing after open heart surgery. It started during deep sleep and now can happen any time. He goes into these episodes where he seems to fighting for his life and not able to breathe out. They last about 10 seconds but are very scary. This started 5 days after surgery and now its been 21 days and they are still occuring. Doctors have done all sorts of tests but can't find the problem.
Avatar m tn Now I am set for open heart surgery next week. HOW IN THE WORLD COULD THIS HAVE GOTTEN MISSED? I would have thought at least the 100% would have showed up. I am wondering now if the results were even looked at. Info and opinions welcome. I am still in shock...............
714309 tn?1235737612 Well, three weeks ago today I had my open heart surgery. They let me out of the hospital after six days. I was ready to go home too :) My surgeon tried his best to repair my mitral valve, but found it was too badly damaged and calcified from my previous surgery when I was two years old. He ended up having to replace it after trying for literally hours to repair it. I was in surgery for over six hours and he actually took me off the bypass machine to test the repair.
Avatar n tn t agree on why I did so well on the stress test. Q. Can some one do this well on a stress test, ie 13.5 minutes and still have major heart problems? What's next?
Avatar f tn Being that she has Chronic Obstructive Pulmanary Disease (pressure in the lungs), Diabetes and Asthma open heart surgery would be extremely high risk. If she had surgery most likely she would go into cardiac shock and not breath again due to her COPD and Asthma. Then, with the Diabetes she most likely would not heal and infection would set in. Later if necessary they may be able to do some procedure through the cath.
Avatar f tn What surgery did you have? I believe Bypass i also called open heart surgery, but I don't know why. I had mitral valve surgery at age 67 and had none of the postop symptoms, so my experience says only you are have more trouble than I did. I suppose my sternum may be a little uneven and there are times when I wish the doctor had used a straight edge to cut me open as the long vertical cut is on a bit of an angle compared to the perpendicular.
478103 tn?1209053846 Also my leg where they took the veins in my leg still swell alot around my ankles and still do not have feeling in the front of my leg, that is still very bothersome, and also my hair is falling out by the handfuls is this normal after heart surgery? It is hard to find anyone my age going that has gone through bypass surgery. I will say on a lighter note, I feel better than I have in years. Any info would much be appreciated.
Avatar n tn i ended up having 7 bypasses open heart surgery on may 14th, 2008, my question is, 10 days later, i am having to cough alot and it is making me sore. i am afraid that i am geting something wrong with my lungs. what do you think. This discussion is related to Issues with breathing after bypass surgery.
242440 tn?1264519844 (not mor than this for approx 2-3 years) The only test which gives correct results for a block is the Angiography test(Heart catheter). 2 D ech test may show everyting is fine but not a correct indicator for heart blockages. HOpe this information helps.
Avatar f tn I had a myocardial infarction 10 years ago and i had a an open heart surgery since then and now i am experiencing symptoms of stable angina and my angiogram is completely clear and the bypass is 100% success and all the tests are negative, can a thallium stress test be useful or it will not be conclusive because of the former heart attack
Avatar n tn ) and reiterated that I was too young to have this going on and that due to my syptoms, the family history and results of the Stress test that I needed to have the cath done. During a cath are they always able to stent the artery open? How bad would it have to be for them to go to a bypass instead of a stent? Sorry for so many questions, just very anxious. Thanks so very much.
Avatar m tn I had a triple-bypass and open-heart surgery, ten months ago after a heart attack (in May 2010). At first, I could barely walk, being terribly short of breath. Thankfully, it was water on the lung, which was resolved after another 10 days in the hospital. My age is 56. I now have arrhythmia and an implanted defribillator. As an athlete all my life, I sought to resume my exercising. First I had to walk, then, walk and run. Now, I can run a 3.
Avatar m tn I had bypass surgery in 2004 ( 5 bypasses }. Now, 3 years and 5 months later, my cardiac doctor had me take a stress test again. He said that he saw something that he didn't like and had me set up for a heart cath. I had the procedure and he placed a stent in one of the blocked arteries that had been bypassed. He said that all the bypasses were clear and good but he wanted to stent the old arteries that had the severe blockage.
