Strattera non stimulant

Common Questions and Answers about Strattera non stimulant

strattera

Avatar f tn Strattera is a non stimulant med used for ADHD. Whether or not it would be effective for you, I don't know. This site lists almost all possible treatment options. Although for some reason, I couldn't find Strattera listed, so you need to google that. The site is http://www.healing-arts.org/children/ADHD/medications.htm And the following site also lists (with info) non stimulant meds (they do mention strattera). http://www.baltimorepsych.com/NonStimulants.
Avatar m tn Well, they are non stimulant meds which should make them safer then the stimulant ones. I am guessing that he takes the intuniv at night to help him sleep? Here is a link on all the adhd meds - http://www.leeheymd.com/charts/adhd_1.html Both of these will take several weeks before they reach full effectiveness, so don't give up if you feel they aren't working.
766032 tn?1281641481 The only non-stimulate drug that I know of is Strattera. There are various types of stimulants (time release, etc), but all work on the same principal. Vyvanse works slightly differently (but is still a stimulant) to provent abuse.
Avatar m tn It is prescribed for Attention Deficit disorder, but is not a stimulant. It is non-addictive and not a controlled substance. It also has some of the same properties as SSNRI's. Since it affects neurotransmitters it is a very useful drug.
Avatar n tn Is he taking 36mg plus 36 mg or 18mg plus 18mg?
Avatar m tn Yesterday, I noticed that you suggested Strattera to another mom for tics. Our doctor told us also to change to Strattera.
Avatar n tn Strattera is a non-stimulant drug used to treat ADD. It also has helped my son with anxiety. My Peds opinion is that by reducing my son's anxiety, we are increasing his ability to deal with symptoms of GERD. The reflux started before we started the Strattera, and the symptoms went away after we started it. NOW, the second time around on Strattera, we are not having the same luck with it, at least on the old dose. I am hoping that the increased dose of both meds does the trick.
Avatar n tn Well, you lasted longer than I did. This particular med made me like a zombie, still couldn't sleep, had really strange nightmares, and the creepy crawlies all over me. I stopped on day 13. I'm back to the Adderall when I have to be in town or around people. Other than that I just stay home. At least I'm able to get into working again as it was as if someone had stolen my creative spirit away from me. That's the thing with us ADHD'rs.
Avatar f tn t been on medicine for it since college. Starts out with my former medicine, strattera, but when I would take it I felt my heart was out of control and my blood pressure went up. Now on wellbutrin for about a week but I feel foggy and it is causing worse ibs. Not sure if that side effect will go away but giving it a try. My question is, if anyone can answer, why was I able to take strattera as a child with 0 side effects and then high heart rate etc now.
Avatar f tn Strattera is a non-stimulant med. It doesn't work as well, but it does work. The other thought is not to take extended release meds (XR) so they are out of your system at night. Vyv has probably the longest duration of them all, which is great for some people. Ritalin has a duration of roughly 4 hours which I think is the shortest. Some people even take meds to help them sleep at night (which I think should be avoided if possible).
Avatar m tn s the non - stimulant type, I was thinking the stimulant form of medication would suit me better with such as an Amphetamine based one. I was a user on speed awhile ago and when I was on I felt established, in control, I could concentrate and express my inteligence.
Avatar f tn Strattera is a non stimulant med, but still can really affect the appetite. Here is some more info on it - http://www.crazymeds.us/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Meds/Strattera Food wise, there are alternatives besides sweet tasting ones. I use a a high protein whey mix after workouts that is not sweet. I add one tablespoon on chocolate (non sugar) mix to it. It will take some experimentation to find what she likes. And she needs to snack many times during the day.
Avatar m tn or ? If you google strattera you can see that it does not immediately effect you like a stimulant medication will. So its possible that this is what is going on and you need to give it some more time. At any rate, you should always remain in good communication with your doctor. He needs to know what is going on. Also, he should be experienced with his patients using strattera, so should be able to tell you, what to expect. Good luck!
Avatar f tn If the ADHD diagnosis was accurate, and he has not received benefit from the stimulant medications, the non-stimulant Strattera might be a worthwhile option.
Avatar n tn I have been on Pristiq 100mg for 3 months, Wellbutrin 150mg for 5 weeks and we added Strattera 40mg. Pristiq for PMDD, Wellbutrin for motivation and Strattera for focus. Separately they help each thing only. So was wondering if anyone else is on a combo like this and it’s helped. And how long. I seem to be anxious more lately before adding Strattera....hoping this helps it. No libido what so ever.
990354 tn?1307132886 My doc did give me Strattera to try in combination with the pristiq. It is a non-stimulant and prob not as addictive. However, I am worried it wont have the same effects as the adderall has for me. Please I need help and advice from anyone who has been on strattera or knows anyone who has had success on it ???
Avatar m tn Hi, my husband has adult ADHD and his doctor put him in strattera. It is working for his ADHD but it has loads of side effects (and he cannot take any of the stimulant type meds). We are not sure what to do about the semen leakage. He, understandably, is embarrassed about this and has started to wear diapers to work to protect his clothes. Is this the best option? Anyone has suggestions.
Avatar n tn i started tapering him off and some most of these have calmed down at a quarter of the dose, strattera is a non stimulant and works like an antidepresant wellbutrin but is for kids too..frontline has a series on the medicated child on www . pbs. org, you should really check this out, it is scary!!! deals with kids being on physc meds...
Avatar n tn Im a 34 year old female just diagnosed with ADD. my dr out me on strattera because of an existing heart problem. I started it 5 days ago. the 1st day i took it at 8am. by 12 i couldnt keep my head off my desk. and i killed my scalp with my letter opener. i felt like i had bugs all in my head. the next day i took it at 1pm. same thing. im taking it later at night so i can hopefully sleep through all of the "bugs". has anyone else had itching as a side effect?
Avatar m tn From what I have read, (and I refer back to the first link I gave), strattera is not as effective as the stimulant medications. I have a feeling from past post experience, that doctors will go with it if parents are worried about using stimulant medications (among other reasons). In regards to the new medicine. All good doctors always start off with a low dosage and slowly increase. Obviously your daughter has a form of ADD or she would be climbing the walls on 20mgs a day.
Avatar f tn The most frequent combination is a psychostimulant to treat the ADHD and an antihypertenisive (like Clonidine or Tenex) to addres the oppositional behavior. One thing you might consider is employing Strattera ( a non-stimulant) to treat the ADHD and to divide the Clonidine dose over the day to address the oppositionality. In other words, ask the doctor about giving some at night (he might not actually require .
209987 tn?1451935465 have you tried strattera for the adhd. that is what my son is on its a non stimulant so it shouldn't affect your sleep as much as the stimulants do.
Avatar n tn This type of side effect of the the psychostimulants is equivalent to a tic and the only sensible intervention is to stop the medication. Her ADHD can be treated with a non-stimulant medication such as Strattera.
Avatar f tn Hummm, the problem is that strattera is not a stimulant, which is probably why it was prescribed to your son, and I can not find Raynard's symptoms listed as any side effect of strattera. "Raynaud's phenomenon is an exaggeration of vasomotor responses to cold or emotional stress." ADHD can cause a lot of emotional stress. You really need to talk with your doctor. You also need to do some research as allmymarbles suggested.
Avatar n tn I am an over 35 Adult female with ADHD. I have been taking Strattera for several years. It wasn't until my aggressive behavior and anger was announced to me by my husband as being a problem that I sought help with counceling and with my primary care Doctor. The first thing my Doctor said to me was that Strattera was known to cause heightened aggression and mood swings. He also said that due to the fact that I am super-sensitive to any medication it could make it much worse. Is this possible?
Avatar n tn im trying natural approach and while i see some improvement inattention is still pretty bad, probably going back to strattera and see if it can work albeit not optimal as my son has non verbal learning disability dx as well which overlaps with adhd and does not respond well to stimulants....
Avatar n tn If he is not able to use either of the two families of stimulant medications because of the side effects, a trial on Strattera would be prudent. Finally, relative to his WM deficit, you may want to consider Cogmed Working Memory Training, a software-based approach to enhancing working memory capacity. The five-week, at-home, computerized program helps many children and adults to enhance their working memory (and attentional) skills (see www.cogmed.com).
