Avatar m tn I went to my speech therapy this morning. She had me saying ahhhhhh, ooooh, eeeeh and reading from what looked like a grade second reader. The she made a mistake. She said, "Tell me a little about yourself." Now, being a complete windbag I went into a dissertation that rocked her back on her heels. She kept asking me to take a deep breath as i talked.
1654810 tn?1302015040 Hi, I'm on 200mg Lamictal per day. I am finding more memory loss, also a form of stuttering I think. What I do often is I repeat a word over and over something like at work, and Im the boss lol, I might say " I think we should go go go go and get this item ordered now.
Avatar m tn I am a 19-year-old girl who has been experiencing trouble when finding words. It started 4 years ago, sometimes I could not remember the name of a specific word or I would remember the first letter of the world but not the entire word. I didn't really think much of it as it was not that frequent. But as of lately, it has been getting worse. For example, the other day, I could not remember the word "dishwasher" and I had to describe it instead.
Avatar n tn Hi and welcome to our little MS community, i dont think i've said hello before but if i have please forgive the cog fog lol anyhooo, you might like to read through our health pages, found just to the right of your screen.
Avatar f tn My son was the same way! Couldn't speak but could understand everything. At his 2 yr appointment our doctor brought it to our attention and gave me then number of ESA (Educational Services Agency). They evaluated him and we started speech therapy at 2. About 4 months in there was no improvement and so they did another evaluation and said that they believed he had Childhood Apraxia of Speech. Which is a motor speech disorder.
Avatar m tn Another thing I wanted to add, is if you can't get services provided in your country for speech, start teaching your child sign language. There are lots of videos and books out there. Even if you can get services, if you start teaching him sign language now, it'll get him started. I think the idea is to aim for a word per week, or at least until they get the idea. Some kids take longer than others. My daughter learned quickly, but she was 25 months when she started learning.
Avatar m tn I have had a lot of problems with my speech including word retrieval but it all seemed to have started by being overdosed on my meds by a inept neurologist. However, I am still having trouble with my speech in that I sound like I am drunk due to slurring my words. I have even more problems when I am tired with slurring, stuttering, and word retrieval. I am to supposedly undergo a neuropsych consulation to find out if the cognitive problems I have are due to my MS diagnosis.
Avatar n tn s just a little behind. The doctor promoted speech therapy and said there was nothing to worry about. I also took him to a child neurologist for an exam. The neurologist also did not seem to think anything was wrong. He also mentioned speech therapy and time. However the school district evaluated my son with specialists and said that he was possibly autistic. I don't know what to think. I know my son have some problems and is slow but I'm not comfortable with Autism.
Avatar m tn We didn't start our daughter in speech therapy until 24 months, and she never spoke a single word until then. I had started teaching her sign language around 18 months, on my own. Sign language really helps alleviate the stress of little kids who can't tell you what they want. They can sign it. Some kids love sign language (my daughter did), and then others refuse to learn it. At 24 months her sign language vocabulary was somewhere around 20 words.
Avatar f tn you have to get him in speech but my son is the same age and he does the same thing he cant say anything he brings me a cup if he wants water and he is alone most of the time i had to stop workin so i can find out what is wrong with him so far they didnt tell me much but they know he needs help.

193609 tn?1292180293 She said that they do educational speech therapy and that Ashtyn needs Clinical speech therapy. Is there anything that would be as helpful as speech therapy since my insurance wont cover it and the ISD doesn't do the speech therapy that he needs? Ashtyn is very behind in almost all communication skills. I don't know what else to do for him, and no one can help him!
325405 tn?1262290178 t believe she is pushing drug therapy here. I think she is supporting you for the speech therapy. As far as pushing the other stuff, I haven't seen her other posts to know where she stands.
Avatar m tn My son was saying 20 words by the age of 18 months and by 2 1/2 had over a hundred words, however they were nearly all labels, he found it very difficult (and still does to a certain extent) to structure sentances, ask questions etc etc. By 3 years old he was quite echolaic, confused me, you, your etc rearely used the word no and never said yes in response to a question.
Avatar n tn my little boy did not talk until he was two. we approached his pediatrician about this and he sent us to get a hearing test which turned out normal. finally at age two he began talking. at four now, he is just fine. you may want to see if she has a problem with her hearing which could be making her slow to speak.
20896457 tn?1592763839 With that said, my son has something called sensory processing disorder. Tripping frequently is a sign as is garbled speech. When you do a speech eval, they check the three areas of speech which are articulation (the ability to understand the words she is saying), expressive language (ability to formulate what to say to others) and receptive language (ability to understand and process what is said to her).
Avatar f tn Therapists’ first work with patients to create sing-song sentences that can be set to familiar tunes, then work on removing the melody to leave behind a more normal speaking pattern. This kind of therapy is recommended for patients who have no meaningful form of speech, but can understand language and have the patience for therapy sessions. I hope this helps. Take care always and regards.
Avatar n tn I'm sorry. I know these questions are posted a lot, but I figured it would be easier me asking then trying to find another child with her exact symptoms. My daughter just turned 2 on March 25th. I'm really worried about autism. She still doesn't talk. (She says a few things, but they aren't very clear) She flaps her arms, mainly when she's dancing, but occasionally does it when she's upset. She walks on her tip toes sometimes, not often.
Avatar m tn yes he has been ordered speech therapy and physiotherapy as well. But everybody around me saying that a speech therapy can't help it. It can come back just suddenly, there is no specific and really helpfull treatment for it. thats why i am asking here that what should i do.? i don't have any idea about it. But i will try my level best to recover his speaking power. so please help me if possible. thanks.
Avatar m tn Aggressive behavior and delayed speech patterns are common symptoms of autism. Also, consider enrolling your son in a speech therapy program. The sooner you get him started on speech therapy, the better will be the outcome. Avatar n tn s son has some issue where he can hear himself speak, which makes it harder for him to talk(i forget what the medical term is). Anyhow, I would get her evaluated, she may need speech therapy, it will only be good for her. Ive seen wonderful improvements from speech therapy in children. A young boy 3 years barely said a word, is now talking a mile a minute.
1437229 tn?1296070020 I am soon going for a neuro/psych re-evaluation. I am hoping she recommends speech therapy. I think it would help a lot. It is very difficult to deal with, as I am a teacher and public speaker. I can see in the eyes of some of my audiences that they are in pain listening to me. They have a look like they are about to jump up and scream out the word I am stammering over. Blessings to you three who responded. I will certainly keep you posted as to my progress.
Avatar f tn You have some form of aphasia, which is where your speech will get confused. You mentioned neuralgia, and pain can cause a person to lose focus. Hopefully you are receiving proper medications to stop your discomfort, because that should help you with your word thing, if that is the cause, and it's the one thing I KNOW will cause aphasia, which I have it from injuries in a car wreck.
