Avatar n tn There might be a surgical option as well...When I discussed my thyroidectomy with my ENT surgeon and the possibility of losing my voice, he said he does a lot of vocal cord repair surgeries. I don't know any more than that, but might be something to look into as an option with a very skilled ENT surgeon.

Avatar f tn His ENT dr wants him to take speech therapy, but his voice comes back for a little while. He has been like this for 5 weeks now. Can anyone help with what maybe going on?
Avatar n tn This can be remedied with good hydration and rest, generally. For some, having some speech therapy to learn how to use the voice more efficiently can be very helpful.
Avatar m tn A consultation with a certified speech-language pathologist who specializes in voice therapy is recommended. They will recommend various techniques to assist you and provide relief to your situation.
Avatar m tn Do you whisper or speak loudly? Do you sing a lot? I am going to speech therapy with my son for a similar problem, but they did find vocal cord nodules on him. The therapist said that you can get the chronic hoarseness for months before you'd actually see the nodules on a scope. Maybe seek help from a speech therapist and if it goes away, then you can forget the cancer worry.
Avatar m tn How ever my voice is still hoars. With speech therapy, I improved in making the sound eeee and oooo for almost 18 to 20 seconds but aaaaaa for only 12 seconds where as in the begining all theses were only 4 and 5 seconds. ENT doctor told me that if by speech therepy, it is not cured, I will have to operate-do surgery. However, I do not want to opt for surgery. So if there are any other options for cure, pls help me.
293157 tn?1285873439 s around 40% of MSers dealing with some form of communication issue, we probably talk about those long pauses in speech but things like tone, articulation, quality of voice (too loud or too quiet), pitch and slurr/stutter are all communication related issues for MSers. These are informative.... http://www.msfocus.org/article-details.aspx?articleID=358 http://multiplesclerosis.
Avatar f tn Does anyone else have problems with their voice. I cannot yell anymore and my voice cracks? I lose my voice alot almost to a whisper?
Avatar n tn Wondered if anyone had radiation on vocal cords and can give me some advice or recommendation of something that might help relieve some of the hoarseness. I was told to try speech therapy but it may be to soon. A small bit of alcohol, wine, mouthwash, etc. seems to help.
Avatar f tn As time went by it was worse more times than better. I have already been in speech therapy. Going to see a new voice dr tomorrow and the Neurologist next week. This all started 14 months ago. I also got severe tremors of the face and neck at the same time but that went away.
Avatar m tn You must take him to a speech therapist and his neurologist to assess whether speech will come back or not. Speech therapy, physical therapy and motivation is important for recovery. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history.
Avatar m tn I went to my speech therapy this morning. She had me saying ahhhhhh, ooooh, eeeeh and reading from what looked like a grade second reader. The she made a mistake. She said, "Tell me a little about yourself." Now, being a complete windbag I went into a dissertation that rocked her back on her heels. She kept asking me to take a deep breath as i talked.
193609 tn?1292180293 She said that they do educational speech therapy and that Ashtyn needs Clinical speech therapy. Is there anything that would be as helpful as speech therapy since my insurance wont cover it and the ISD doesn't do the speech therapy that he needs? Ashtyn is very behind in almost all communication skills. I don't know what else to do for him, and no one can help him!
Avatar f tn do you have a hoarse throat or just youre speech i have a hoarse throat which eases later on in the day and then retuns in the morning
684299 tn?1227092903 I am a Speech Language Pathologist. Speech Therapists often perform Voice therapy to help reduce the chance of long term effects, and help build better voice habits in your day to day life. We are usually referred by ENT's and Pulmonologist. I suggest you see an ENT, and ask if Voice therapy is an option for you. If you are diagnosed with GERD/LPR, we can also perform education to reduce that as well. Hope all is well.

3848536 tn?1348421441 It can take up to 3 months for the inflammation to subside, but sometimes the problem is permanent. The best way for evaluation is to see a speech pathologist who specializes in voice and who can perform a videostroboscopy which is a special camera to look at the movement of the vocal cords. The speech pathologist can recommend vocal strengthening exercises and works with an ENT who can prescribe the medication. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn While he eats most things today, he has periods of incessant drooling and runny nose that come and go during the day and night. His voice and speech are significantly impaired as well. The speech therapists have said there is nothing more they can do to help. Although he cannot walk and is in a motorized wheelchair, this is the worst part of the stroke. Has anybody ever seen these excess secretions and is there anything that can be done to give this man some relief?
Avatar m tn Based on what you are describing, you might have inflammation of your superior laryngeal nerve which is the nerve that controls the muscle around your larynx (voice box) that controls pitch. An upper respiratory tract infection (cold) can cause the inflammation. You might need oral steroids or nerve medications like Lyrica to quiet down the inflammation. It can take up to 3 months for the inflammation to subside, but sometimes the problem is permanent.
558632 tn?1303471125 All docs I have been to say everything is coming back normal. However, the ENT sent me to speech therapy. Just finished a 12 week round of vitalstem treatment, which is included with the speech. If it is normal then why so much pain and hoarseness? I havne't gotten any real answers. www.vitalstim.com website and read up on the stimulation therapy. It might help. I'm at 11 months and counting. If you have any questions, just ask away. I will answer what I can.
Avatar f tn I am right there with you....I had a TT in July and after two months, my supposed "temporary" voice disruption never went away..neither did my swallowing and breathing difficulty. I knocked on every medical door and no one would tell me anthing but, "it is nothing, it will go away" so 5 months now later, I still struggle to talk, swallow and breathe at times. I have gone to two ENTs who have both diagnosed me with "vocal paralysis/ paresis...
