193609 tn?1292180293 She said that they do educational speech therapy and that Ashtyn needs Clinical speech therapy. Is there anything that would be as helpful as speech therapy since my insurance wont cover it and the ISD doesn't do the speech therapy that he needs? Ashtyn is very behind in almost all communication skills. I don't know what else to do for him, and no one can help him!

Avatar f tn For most stroke patients, the rehabilitation process includes nursing, occupational therapy (OT), physical therapy (PT), therapeutic recreation (TR) and speech therapy (or speech language therapy, SLP). OT involves exercise and training to help the stroke patient relearn everyday activities, sometimes called the Activities of daily living (ADLs), such as eating and drinking, dressing, bathing, cooking, reading and writing, and toileting.
Avatar n tn t possibly participate in extracurricular activities because of hours and hours of homework after a grueling day at school. Could you elaborate on what you're talking about - age of child and school expectations?
325405 tn?1262290178 I have a friend who was initially turned down to have her son have speech therapy when he turned 2. I am still not sure why he was turned down, and I'm not sure why my friend didn't have him reevaluted months later when he wasn't progressing in his speech.

Avatar m tn I went to my speech therapy this morning. She had me saying ahhhhhh, ooooh, eeeeh and reading from what looked like a grade second reader. The she made a mistake. She said, "Tell me a little about yourself." Now, being a complete windbag I went into a dissertation that rocked her back on her heels. She kept asking me to take a deep breath as i talked.
Avatar f tn He did not have any behavioural issues other than frustration with those not understanding him. He was two years of age when he was diagnosed (and speech therapy began immediately); today he is going on eight years and the apraxia has all but disappeared. He is doing so well (the speech issues are almost non-existent) - how early did your son begin therapy? Just wondering ....
Avatar f tn Most insurance will cover an eval. I do know the younger a child is when the receive speech therapy, the easier it is to correct. Has she been nervous about anything? Has she had any accidents lately?
Avatar n tn while it's possible that it's a normal part of her development, I would be concerned. She most likely needs speech/language therapy. I am surprised that her pediatrician isn't concerned. in the mean time, if she is responding well to flash cards, i would create activities that foster language development. help her learn to put sentences together by modeling and have her repeat you (as you are). Since she does well with flashcards, you may want to look at http://www.speakingofspeech.
Avatar f tn They should not have more than 1 hour of homework a night except for occasional times with special projects or testing. This is especially true before HS. All this talk about kids being overweight and yet they sit all day long and come home to sit some more is stupid. Making school days longer or having school year round is not the answer. http://newyork.cbslocal.
Avatar n tn s just a little behind. The doctor promoted speech therapy and said there was nothing to worry about. I also took him to a child neurologist for an exam. The neurologist also did not seem to think anything was wrong. He also mentioned speech therapy and time. However the school district evaluated my son with specialists and said that he was possibly autistic. I don't know what to think. I know my son have some problems and is slow but I'm not comfortable with Autism.
Avatar m tn My son was saying 20 words by the age of 18 months and by 2 1/2 had over a hundred words, however they were nearly all labels, he found it very difficult (and still does to a certain extent) to structure sentances, ask questions etc etc. By 3 years old he was quite echolaic, confused me, you, your etc rearely used the word no and never said yes in response to a question.
Avatar m tn We also feel that his temper tantrums are due to speech delay. I will also try similar activities that occupational therapist does till we find a good one. the 2nd one regulated one that you told is similar what we experience .few Tactile traits he also has like he hates to wear socks or shoes even in winters no matter what amount of effort we do to convince him . This also makes him hyper. But when we go out he normally wears shoes after little resistance and just forgets about them.
Avatar f tn MY SON IS 2 1/2 YEARS OLD, I AM VERY CONCERNED BECAUSE HE STILL IS NOT TALKING HE ONLY SAYS SEVERAL WORDS , WHEN HE WANTS. HE USUALLY JUST SCREAMS FOR WHAT HE WANTS OR POINTS EVERYTHING ELSE SEEMS NORMAL . I AM STARTING TO WORRY THAT THIS COULD BE ASSOCIATED WITH AUTISM OR ASPERGERS, HE TAKING SPEECH THERAPY ONCE A WEEK BUT IT DOES NOT SEEM TO BE ENOUGH HE'S AFFECTIONATE, LOVING DOES NOT HAVE ANY REPETITIVE RITUALS I DON'T SEE ANY OTHER AREAS FOR CONCERN.
Avatar m tn Speech language pathologist may evaluate the cognitive and communication skills, neuropsychologist may evaluate other cognitive and behavioral abilities and occupational therapist can assess cognitive skills to do daily activities. Immediate intervention and therapy is the best approach taken by these specialists. It would be nice if you spoke to the treating neurologist about these possibilities. Take care.
Avatar f tn suggested occupational therapy then speech therapy. She said that some kids who have speech delays are showing some Autistic traits that will disappear later on. My husband doesn't want him to start any therapies yet because he said he's still young & he wants to give him a time because he believes that it's not Autism. We enrolled him to a toddler class instead so he can interact with other kids because he's our only child & he doesn't have playmates.
398059 tn?1447945633 My two days therapy involved speaking with a speech specialist , speaking with a occupational therapist, and working with a physical therapist. The speech therapist gave me tests to check on my cognitive skills. We found I had memory issues but determined they were tied to how I was feeling day to day. I saw her on Wednesday and had difficulties with some of her testing.
Avatar m tn After respiration, circulation and cardiovascular function have been stabilized, either high dose intravenous immunoglobulins or plasmapheresis used in combination is better than each alone. Therapy is ineffective after 2 weeks from when the first motor symptoms appear. Risk associated with immunoglobulins are hepatitis, renal failure after 5 days of therapy.

Avatar f tn My son is 8 years old. He has straight A's in school but when he gets home to do homework we have some serious issues. He acts like he can't do his homework. When I ask him to read a problem to me he talks so quiet I can't hear him. I know he wants me just o give him the answers but I won't. It'll make my life easier if I did but he wouldn't learn anything. I've tried everything I know to do. Can someone please help?
